    I take a look at the Sony 70-300mm F4.5-5.6 G Series lens for the Sony E-mount system. To date, it is the longest telephoto zoom lens that Sony currently offers and is compatible with full frame cameras from the A7 series to crop sensor APSC cameras like the a6300 and even the a3000.

    • @JohnSisonPhotography
      @JohnSisonPhotography  Před 7 lety

      Sony just announced a 100-400mm lens but won't be available till June but I'm not too sure about other countries. I live in Australia. The 70-300mm is the one to go for if you need it as soon as possible though and is a lot cheaper when compared to the 100-400mm. A tripod could be beneficial if you have very shaky hands, especially at longer focal lengths.

    hey John, I'm heading out to an air show at the end of September. as you had mentioned, this is the longest that Sony has currently. I'm thinking about renting this lens to go with my A6300. do you think it's efficient enough for the air show?

    • @JohnSisonPhotography
      @JohnSisonPhotography  Před 7 lety +1

      Yeah I definitely think its enough for an air show. Its a good lens so I think it will be the best option at the moment.

    • @ClarkyAv
      @ClarkyAv Před 7 lety +2

      I traded my 70-200 f4 for this one as I work at an airfield and was going to airshows. The 70-300 is a great lens on the a6000/6300 and produces some very sharp images - in my opinion sharper than the 70-200, and it gets you closer. I like the way that it is relatively compact when retracted, which made it easier to carry around with the zoom lock on.
      The only downsides for me are that it's not a constant aperture, but I was usually at at least f8 so that didn't matter, and that the bokeh isn't as nice as on the 70-200. Apart from that, I think it's a great lens!

    • @swonghobby
      @swonghobby Před 7 lety

      Thanks for the info. I wish they had a longer zoom like the Sigma and the Tamron with native mount. I don't want to use an adapter as that will only slow down the focus. thanks for the info.

    • @JohnSisonPhotography
      @JohnSisonPhotography  Před 7 lety

    • @JohnSisonPhotography
      @JohnSisonPhotography  Před 7 lety

      Well it depends on what you want to shoot really. If its portraits and perhaps street photography for example, the 50mm F1.8 is very good lens to go with which is reasonably cheap. If you wanted something more telephoto and want to shoot wildlife and sports photos, the 55-210mm is also a good lens to consider.

    • @JohnSisonPhotography
      @JohnSisonPhotography  Před 6 lety

      I haven't done an actual video on it but I have used it. It takes so much light away and the images don't appear as sharp anymore compared to without the TC. I would try to avoid it but I would recommend the 1.4 TC if you really need that extra reach.

      If you're recording high quality video in XAVC S codec (It'll be in the menu where you can select this in video format), I suggest you use a 64gb SDXC Class 10 card. The Sandisk Extreme Pro 64gb 95mb SD card is the one I use. Btw if you can't find the XAVC S codec in the menu, you need to update the software in the camera via the Sony website.

    John, You refer to this lens as "heavy" several times yet in your Review of the Sony fe G 70-200 f4 you refer to it as "light". In fact the 70-300 is 40 grams lighter. You say in the comments section at least twice that you prefer the 70-200 f4. I think you came into this review with a bias against this lens especially when you admit that you haven't "..compared them directly.." I have had both lenses and believe the 70-200 is overrated, while the 70-300 gives me a higher percentage of sharp images.

    • @JohnSisonPhotography
      @JohnSisonPhotography  Před 7 lety +8

      Hi and thanks for the feedback. I did say the 70-300mm FE is heavy for a "mirrorless lens" as one of the reasons to going mirrorless is to have a lighter kit. As for the 70-200mm F4, I said "I was surprised" it was light and small which are two different things. As for the weight, the 70-300mm FE (854 grams) is the heavier lens compared to the 70-200mm F4 (840 grams). Either way, I appreciate your comments :)

      Walter .I have the 70-350 on a a6600. At full zoom for flying birds it is very poor. Not sharp even for still shots. I may try the 70-300 that has a much better review but it is heavy. I have been using a Canon 70-200 F 4 L on a Canon SL 1 body.When i crop to the same size its results are consistently much better. This Sony setup was a great disappointment.I shot 400 + pictures with 2 lenses.Op close and far still moving subjects the video and up close shots are OK. My advice is do not waste your money on this Sony 70- 350 lens for flying birds.

    slow,
    heavy,
    soft wide open need to stop to F8 or F9,

    But then yo think it is a good idea to buy it.

    • @chosenideahandle
      @chosenideahandle Před 6 lety +1

      It's made of plastic, not plasticy, with Sony's low light abilities it's fast enough for most environments people need a tele zoom in, most pro lenses with this range are even heavier, and it's actually very sharp at all stops. If you want Sony's auto-focus and sensor it's the best deal around.
