Tom, there is a video here on CZcams where a guy mig welds a coat hanger to the pin. Short pull and out it comes. Seems simple enough. Would like to see it done in person.
If I was worth a crap at welding I might try it. I have a video where I use a drill bit to get it out, been doing that for a long time now. Saw that deal from Techpak and thought it would be worth a try. Helps a little but not totally sold on it. Still want to try it on a 4R55E.
@@CurmudgeonTransmission Ya, from what I can see, he places the coat hanger offset from the pin and gives it one short blast. Appears to not take much. I guess once you get it out, the thing to do would be to countersink the hole for the next guy.
The Diesel stamp just means it has a 38-tooth sun gear on it, but the drum is the same you can swap the sun to the 41 gas with a press.
I put the superior pump kit in all of them , I’ve had great results with it. Pr is usually worn badly. Self cleaning drop in valve works great. Thermal valves go in the trash.
I will look at it, I do not get many 5R110W's maybe a couple a year. I really like the Superior stuff. I would rather use Superior or Sonnax if I can help it.

You should by the roll pin puller off Amazon, OTC makes it . I only use the fitzall tool if it's already screwed up.
I had that one, the tip broke after only a few uses. Replacement tips are almost as much as a new tool. Was not going to keep doing that. I use a dill bit, got a video on it. Always looking for new ways though.
Haven’t broke the otc tool yet , been using it on any roll pin I can
can you give me information about replacing a leaking output shaft seal on a 5R110W 4WD with bolt on flange? Is the spanner nut epoxied in? How to remove? Thanks!
Chuck
I have the same question. I have the tool. Heated the "nut" to 650 degrees, stripped out the 1/2" square on the tool so welded a 1-3/8" nut to the tool and applied 800 lb/ft with a 1" digital torque wrench after heating it again and the nut didn't move a bit. Do you have to get the "nut" red hot with an O/A torch
@@rixtrix11 you probably long past this but for the next person it has Loctite on it you need to torch it pretty hot a lot of the time you will have to mess one of the holes up and use a air hammer to bust it loose, I found put some round stock in one the holes the put your air hammer on the round stock and you can save the nut.
Do you have video for inline parking brake on 5r110?
Thanks Dennis
Getting ready do my first 5r110 rebuild. What rebuild kit do u recommend?
Transtec with Raybestos clutches.
@CurmudgeonTransmission you wouldn't happen have a 5r110 already rebuilt wld you?
No. We don't keep units in stock. Sorry.
Amazing video. What is the estimated cost of a repair like this? Just had my 06 F250 Tranny break down after my driver side transmission cooler hose going into the radiator came off somehow and all the transmission fluid drained out while driving. Found the clamp that holds the hose on the ground. Thank you for any feedback you can provide.
Thanks, I could not say for sure anymore. I have not been in the pricing part of it for so long. The price of parts is going through the roof, along with everything else and availability is way down. Used to be in the high 2's to mid 3000.
Explica todo eso en español para no puedo entender un poquito mejor
Where'd you get that holding fixture for the transmission
The holding fixture is for an E4OD/4R100, but it works fairly well on this tranny. Bought it from Atec Transtool. Link is in the description.
@@CurmudgeonTransmission thanks
@Curmudgeon Transmission Im trying to eliminate extended periods of down time by having two units. I found a 5r110 out of an 04 E350 van. My question is the tail is different from my F 350 truck but it looks like u can swap the back case where driveshaft goes. Will it work and is there anything internally I should be worried about before I purchase this core and rebuild it ?
You should be fine as long as your case is the same. Match the RF# and you should be good. Just swap over the tail housing.
I have A question what Atf fluid run well with these 5r110 units do you use something in a drum aftermarket or motorcraft sp or Lv
Always work the best with the fluid that was designed for it. Having said that, we use a full synthetic and they work well for us.
I have a question is the 2004 f350 diésel have the same transmission in the 350 gas
Thank you
Yes. Now the stall of the torque converter will be different.
Do you recommend the special tooling to replace the bushings ?
A good set of bushing drivers and an arbor press is a big help when doing bushings. It is a big investment. But if you are doing them all the time it is worth it. This is a smaller kit than they offered when I got mine and a similar arbor press I use. T-0220-26 Major 26Pcs Bushing Driver Set

@@CurmudgeonTransmission let me back up and say ,thanks for the video , very great and detailed. The rebuild is just a learning for me,I have a spare trans ,and it needs a rebuild .Thanks
I'm 2008 F350 started acting up a few weeks ago slamming hard in the reverse and then I lost overdrive and I lost 5th gear. Put it on a tuner code reader and it said solenoid d is bad replace all of them filled up with fluid new filter and gaskets and it's running worse what's my option
What is the code number and where did you get the replacement solenoid?
Hey Tom, what differential shim kit?
Not sure. We keep all the extra shims from the kits we get, so we have a pile of them. Most of the ones we do are Chevy, few Ford and Dodge. Very few foriegn.
Should I just put an Allison transmission into my 2008 Ford?
That is something you will have to decide for yourself if it is worth all the work. They make kits for it. Me personally I wouldn't do it.
@@CurmudgeonTransmission Thank you for the response. I would love to keep the original transmission. The rebuild seems like a good option to fix the known problems. Thank you again for your input and for your informative videos.
Thanks for watching them.
I have two 5r110s. One the input shaft moves easy both ways the other moves one was good and not at all the other way. What is wrong with it.
Sprag backwards, not assembled correctly or end play is wrong. Probably missed a clutch when assembling it and is keeping it applied.
@@CurmudgeonTransmission on the one that only moves one way?
Yes
Your video would be improved if you cut out that noise in the background,
I can't. If I do there would be no video to post, I have tried. The camera picks up the radio in the shop and I get copyright strikes.
