  • We are finally starting to drop our shoulders and enjoy our time in Alaska!
    While there will always be chores to do, we enjoyed some trout catch & release down the creek from the cabins and then got back to work.
    Levi has caught many nice Rainbow Trout since we arrived but it is catch-and-release here! I have not been so lucky but since I've been laid up growing the minion, I haven't been fishing near as much as him. We are greatly looking forward to the silver/coho salmon run though!
    After some good quiet time in the forest, we split up to get to work. I have been wanting to do a little bit of gardening to at least learn this year and he is helping his Dad with an infinite number of cabin projects. You'll probably be able to see in the video how messy we are with trying to organize and purge what was left in the sale!
    Coming up, I am going to be planting a few more container crops, Levi will be wrapping up the solar system, and we bought a fun new toy to share with everyone!
    As always, thank you so much for watching, we appreciate each and every viewer!

    Becca, you two should invest in a Berkey water filter system. There are quite a few homesteaders up in Alaska that use one in their homes. Well worth the money. And they all have good wells, some of them are artesian wells.

      Thank you so much! I found out they taste like asparagus when they're super small so I am going to have to remember that for next Spring.

      @@beccanlevisalaska also please consider getting a walking stick for the paths walking with your dog. It will help with the deeper climbs.

    An exciting life you have chosen. Get yourself some bear protection! A side arm, 44 or larger and a 12 gauge pump shotgun with buck shot and slugs. Put a sling on it so it can be slung over your back when out fishing and such. Your dogs should give you good warning of approaching bears. Even black bears can be aggressive. Take care and i look forward to following your adventures!

      Thank you! We do have Ruger Redhawk 44 mags with the Kenai holsters but I do like the shotgun idea as well. May just be an excuse for a gun shopping trip! The dogs are also great at warnings. Gus let us know about a moose in the yard this morning and made sure to give it a good chase when we didn't believe him. I guess next time we will take his complaints to heart.

    Hi from New Zealand!! just discovered your channel and loving it!! Alaska is so different to where I live. Simple Living Alaska did an episode a while ago on harvesting and cooking Fiddlehead Ferns... could be a great food source for you 🥰

    I would absolutely love to do what you guys are doing but just can't handle the cold and snow plus I've never hunted a day in my life unfortunately because I was born in the suburbs of big east coast city. But in my next life I'll definitely be there at birth.

    Hubby and I are sure enjoying your trip to Alaska. So many fun things to see, and you, Becca, are so pleasant . One small critique l. We love the music you are playing, but we have to turn up the volume to hear your voices and turn down because the music a bit too loud. Anyone else having this problem, or is it our tv?

      @bobthorton607 so you just mean being more gentle? We'll definitely take note! I know I'm always more focused on getting them back quickly but I'll work on it.

    • @bobthorton607
      @bobthorton607 Před 10 měsíci +2

      Yep do some research rainbow trout have a protective coating that gets stripped away when being handled by dry hands and grass for example atleast u got it back in quickly

    • @bobthorton607
      @bobthorton607 Před 10 měsíci +2

      There are more thorough videos on the interweb than I could fully explain on here
      But especially with rainbow trout keeping them in the water while unhooking and wetting your hands before handling them are two good practices as well a rubber coated net helps a great deal
