Otto Kilcher is the dare devil from Alaska: The Last Frontier. It’s a show that completely changed the way we see reality TV. It features some of the bravest people in the cruel winters of Alaska, just trying to survive with the bare minimum while also keeping the people entertained.
Otto Kilcher has been a constant part of the show since the very beginning and he has been through quite a lot too. It’s his humble nature and constant puns that people really love and that have made him an inseparable part of the show.

When the show first came out, they tried to make it out to be that it was remote,. But some things gave it away, shots of power lines, other houses in background shots. The show started running out of things to do, then the show started branching out to other areas. Most everything was staged, they pretty much have run the gamut of things to do.
I used to live in Homer and I know all these folks. They are only 30 miles away from the grocery store, hospital, movie theater. It's a beautiful place, for sure, but most of the Alaska shows are pretty scripted.

I looked it up, if you want to be considered “badass” you must live 100 miles or more from groceries, movies or a hospital and 200 miles away from jealous people.
@@sydsdaddie got some remote property we had to stake in the late 1980s and met a few others in that area doing the same thing. One guy was real apprehensive about living that remote. I had a small plane and was flying by there the next winter and I looked and he had built himself an 8x16 building and was living in it himself with no one else for miles. He had to have things flown in and then trek a mile in deep snow to get supplies in the winter. I lived 6 miles off the road for a few years but had neighbors in the summer and weekends in the winter. It’s a different feeling knowing there is now one around for 6 miles except yourself.

Otto is the heart and soul of this program! Glad to hear he's OK, we don't have cable any more so I can't watch him on TV and I had heard the rumor. The guy is the perfect kind of crazy, instinctively knows how to get things done, even if sometimes it all goes sideways. And he WORKS, keeps up his house and farm without modern equipment. I hope he has a long happy life, full of blessings!
And his wife is a flaming liberal. Don't kill the fish, don't kill the cow, yuck yuck yuck. Butterflies and rainbows! Glad she's gone
I really enjoyed watching this show also! One of the best Alaska shows there was. Unlike all the fake stuff on the bush people. At least these are real families dealing with real problems and building real homes to live in. Instead of coming up with all the crazy stuff some of the reality tv shows has. Good people!

I howled when otto was trying to fix the electric fence to stop the cows getting out and his wife kept switching it on
I used to watch it every week, then all of a sudden it was no longer on Discovery. Haven’t seen it since. Is it still shown on another station.

The show makes it seem like they live in the middle of nowhere when they are about three miles from Homer. I live in East Texas and they are closer to town than me.
All you people making negative comments really need to get a clue. This family are the real deal, they are neighbors and good people. Yes they have made money but they still work every day and for those of you who dont think life out here is dangerous, well come see for yourselves before you pass judgment.
They're millionaires who live a 30 minute drive on a paved road from Homer, Alaska..... They're not exactly surviving on pickled squirrel meat, as they might lead one to believe
@organican they were millionaires before the show. Their property alone worth millions. They still hunt, fish etc. They may live close to the store now but they sure as hell didn't grow up with the convenience.
@@OffGridAlaska I literally grew up next to them. They absolutely did. Their fathers and grandfathers didnt but these guys lived closer to the grocery store than I did.

by showing us the “LIFE” in Alaska, they became very rich. I am Swiss and wonder what it real and what is “fabricated” Wonder what happened to all of them, REALLY…..
They, Atz and Otto, were already rich before they ever did the show. They are very talented people.

There's only ever been one Real reality show and that was Survivor Man. Les Stroud started the whole reality show craze, but unlike all of the rest, his show was reality. One man, several cameras and no crew. That's reality. All of the rest are just scripted entertainment. Bear Grylls is the absolute worst of any of them. In real life he couldn't survive in a Walmart parking lot. A few are entertaining and have some bits of knowledge in them if you know what to look and listen for, but I find most of them to be unrealistic and shallow.

Yep I totally agree. The absolute worst show though had to be Alaskan Bush People. Yeah they stayed in a hotel every night after filming. The whole area was leased by Discovery and they even built the cabins for this dumbest family on the planet. I no longer watch any reality shows as they're totally fabricated.

I think he is in a Mexican prison right now. He was going around Saltillo making bets that he would give someone his new car he was driving down there if they could light their cigarette lighter 100 times in a row without fail. He made the deal if they couldn't light it 100 times in a row he would cut off one of their fingers but they would get the car if they could do it. All went fine for him until someone finally pulled off the lighter stunt and Pilcher couldn't produce the title for the car. The police were called at that point and the car turned out to be stolen. Nobody has paid off the federales yet to free him. His wife said good ridens and that was pretty much the sentiment from the rest of the family. Jane was the only one that give a hoot for him as she is currently pregnant with his child.

I heard about that, I think he was in the Guadalajara State Prison, but was busted out by bandidos and is currently being held for ransom. It turns out the guy who pulled off the 100 consecutive lights was a local amateur magician and the whole thing was an illusion!

I knew a guy who was on drugs who got into cattle breeding and he's now locked up in a mental health facility.
They live not far from a modern city man. Walmart, hardware stores, grocery stores. People in rural South Dakota live far more remotely. Love Otto and kin, but, come on man.
The nearest town is Homer, Alaska, which isn't exactly a metropolis.
Nearest walmart is Kenai, almost 2 hours away. Homer is a small town, with a grocery store, hardware, a McDonald's, couple of gas stations, and some miscellaneous shops and restaurants. Mostly geared to tourists and fishermen. You can get the basics there, but it's no big city.
Still, they aren't ever in danger of starving to death. It's a 20 minute drive to the grocery store if their freezer is empty before winter.
Homer isn't a modern city. You have to drive 5 hours to Anchorage. The closest Walmart is an hour and a half away. Yes Homer hss stores and banks and such. But not a modern city.
Just because they live near one doesn't mean they go there

I thought this was about what happened to him, not a publicity spot for him. I've always found him to be pretty off putting. He comes across as a know it all, pushy, and rude to his wife. In reality he takes a lot of unnecessary risks and seems pretty bumbling tbh. I love everyone else on the show.

I enjoyed this program until Autz Lee got on my last nerve, glory hunting, bragging and verbal diarrhea. He just doesn’t stop. The only family member I find unwatchable and he ruins the entire show imo.
