Is the 2023 Honda Civic a BETTER Hatchback to BUY than a Toyota Corolla?

- The Civic got a design last year and Honda is continuing it for 2023. On the outside of the Sport Touring you will find 18in wheels, LED headlights and sleek lift back style. On the inside is a 9on infotainment system, Bose sound and sunroof. Under the hood is a 1.5L engine producing 180HP. Is the 2023 Honda Civic a BETTER Hatchback to BUY than a Toyota Corolla?

From what I read on Honda website, 1.5L is turbocharged, 2.0L is the naturally aspirated engine.
Thats 💯 correct!
Joe has to edit that.🙂
Hum 🤔
The 2.0 much more reliable
@@888rattlesnakeHi i wanna buy this car but whats the difference i sont really know anything about car
This definitely has a TURBO.
@@Brian_Eugene_Lee who's Joe?
Yep bro, it certainly does. All 1.5s in these are Turbo charged. Only the regular 2.0s are naturally aspirated.
Hey Joe. Just a correction, this car has a 1.5L turbocharged engine and not a naturally aspirated engine. Also, the rearview camera you can set up to take the whole display by pressing the buttons on the far right. Thanks for the video

Honda doesn't make a 1.5 that isn't turbo charged lol
i was wondering.

Great review Joe. I just bought the '24 Sport Touring in Boost Blue with the Manual. Love it. Coming from a 2016 QX60 since I have less kids to cart around now that one is out of the house. Looking forward to 37 MPG and all the tech included. Also, I agree with the chrome needing a delete!
I got one of these in boost blue, with the 6-speed manual a few months ago. Really love it. Get 29-30 in the city and 40-42 mpg on the highway. It's quick and loaded with features. Low road noise and fun to drive. Best bargain I think for all that you get.
Picked up exact car as you, boost blue w/6mt. Love it more than my 22 Si, better ride quality and more luxury features.
Its not quick its slow af
@@fawrx16it's all relative, but with the manual it feels quick and fun to Rev out each gear. Si isn't much faster, and these aren't the performance models.
Fun to drive a slow car fast is what you are experiencing
@@fawrx16For people who drive these as everyday cars this is plenty fast. Not everyone needs a 300+ horsepower sports car. LOL
“After they seen what they did to the accord” 😂😂😂😭😭
Really interested in the future hybrid version of this hatchback that gets 50+ mpg.
It's already available in the UK and is bloody expensive
Would be great to get a hybrid power system that adds a healthy amount of torque and mileage.
Sadly we don't have any Civic hybrids in Canada. Just Accord hybrids
Especially with *Bidens horrible gas prices* ⛽️
Yes, me too. I've read the piece from Car & Driver about it but it doesn't give any specifics. It said something to the effect that it would hit dealers in the summer of this year, but it's almost mid October and still haven't seen it. Anyone seen one around or heard of it hitting the dealers? Just did another search and still noting showing.
Btw, I own a 2022 Honda Civic Sport Hatchback Touring. It's a very good vehicle that gets excellent mileage, but I'm always curious as are most of you I'm sure. The thought of it in Hybrid form with even better mileage and, hopefully even quicker, really intrigues me.
As someone with a 2022, I love just about everything about it except for the auto idle start/stop. Thankfully there's an aftermarket idle killer you can install in 5 minutes to defeat that "feature".
Great meeting you in the Atlanta airport last Thursday! 🤙🤜🤛
No question only problem is you can’t find one and when you do they add a couple grand to the msrp.
Nice video keep up the good work Joe

Great compact car ! 👍
Thanks Joe ….and Steven Flood !!
It's not compact in this generation
I dig it but again, the prices are so outrageous now. $31k is too much when they were selling the Civic Si new for about $25k just a couple of years ago.
Inflation is a bitch
Not to mention, you can get a Mazda3 Turbo withj standard AWD, 250HP, 320lb-ft, & a proper automatic transmission. No CVT. Significantly more power & a more refined interior. I used to have a Civic Sport Touring Hatchback, I swapped for the Mazda3 Turbo.

I recently purchased a 2024 Honda Civic Hatchback with the sport trim and 6 speed manual. Great car and im very happy with it
The civic is undefeated 🔥🔥🔥
Any word on the cx-70? Great job as always Joe!
This is my first civic and I came from a 2020 Accord Sport. Its not as fast but boy is this thing fun to drive! I love it so much!
Would you say the cabin/ road noise is same/better/worse than accord ?
Team steven for sure. At night the car looks different than day. Unless it's like the f150 lightning where it's all lit up so during the day and night it looks similar.
Always bringing it joe..love this paint job nice wheels too..tough choice between this and the corolla
If you need more space, the Civic is the way to go. However as a single woman, my Corolla hatch is just perfect. You can't really go wrong with either one though!

The 1.5 liter is turbo charged. Not naturally aspirated
Zonk!
I had that exact car, except for mine was the 2022. The same color and everything. The only reason I sold it is my dog was sick and I needed the money for her bills. I would do anything for my dogs! But it was a really cool car. I modded the outside and inside with all kinds of cool things…tastefully!🚗😎🐶🐶
Omg what happened to your dog so that you have to sell your car?
You are a good person, selling your cosmetic stuff so you can keep the things that are not coming back safe, I hope your dog gets better.
I guarantee the car would have outlived your dog 10 fold but it’s nice to know there are still decent people in this world ❤
I got one a few days ago and loving it!
5:05 you made a slight mistake here joe, the civic in this trim has a 1.5 turbo. The civic sport and lower trims have the 2.0 n/a but great review as always
7 my little ponies in the center console 😂. This is why you are the GOAT Joe
nice review
I've had a sonic grey Sport touring hatch with a 6mt for a little over 3 months now. Had to drive 125 miles just to get the car, but at msrp its quite a bit of car for the money. The 1.5T catches some unwarranted hate on various forums, but the fact of the matter is that it's got perfectly adequate power, good mid range torque, high 30's on the highway at 80mph (3100rpm). I think the 6MT wakes up the powertrain some and it's a great manual, if not quite as "snick, snick" as the Si, but the CVT actually pairs well to this powertrain. All the Si's in my area were marked up, the integra I checked out didn't feel like enough of a step up for me to justify the extra ~$6k, but the new Civic chassis has some inherent greatness built in to even the non performance Civics. No LSD and down 20HP on paper, but I have a hard time imagining an Si being much quicker. Just needs some adjustable lumbar. It's 2023, Honda, get your shit together in that regard.
Got the 2021 civic hatch sport touring and I love it. Thought I made a mistake not getting the 2022 but there are things I don’t like about the 22. The chrome trim on the 22 sport touring. The auto start/stop. No dual exhaust, no side skirt, no roof spoiler and no rear diffuser.
I have the 2022 Civic Sport Hatchback Touring as I said above. I like the chrome trim and thinks it adds some contrast. If you want everything black just customize it yourself. I didn't like the start/stop at first but have gotten used to it and believe it improves my mileage. It doest affect the pickup off the line for me. Again, if you want all that stuff get a different vehicle or customize it.
It looks good in red. I just purchased a 2024 Sport Touring manual in boost blue.
I have sticky steering issues with my ‘22 Civic and lots of people are reporting same issues. I would stay away
The wheel is sticky or the steering?
@@slowgoat6089 the steering. Like it feels notchy. I bought a 2022 Honda Civic Touring in Dec. 2021 and the following year after putting 12k miles, my steering began to feel stuck in place on curves or longer drives. I would look it up on google too. Many 11th gen civic owners are facing this issue with no resolve.
I bought one for my commute. Its a great little car.
I can’t tell the different between this trim level and the next one down, the EX-L. Is there anything meaningful between the two?
Joe, how easy is it to access the car? Do you have to be a pretzel? How many twinkies do i get in the storage.
I have an NA Civic that is about to turn 10 years old and still looks and runs like new. The most expensive maintenance/repair item on it has been tires. I highly recommend first time car owners take a good, hard look at the Civic. You won't beat many people in a race, but that's not why you bought it. You'll save a ton of money in maintenance and fuel costs if you take care of it, and it'll run forever.
I’m diggin that color ps leave the flat black itd better than the gloss black
Them Hondas are catching my eye. Old Honda is back with clean, mature designs. Honda belongs in the list of some of the best looking cars on the road.
I prefer black than krom thanks like always excellent video
the interiors of the new hondas are so fantastic.
Not enough reviewers talk about how you can use the paddle shifters to downshift the CVT 2 times (sometimes 3) in order to keep the engine right in that VTEC range. That's where the power is, and along with the handling, this is an VERY fun car. Additionally, the "Sport" mode really holds the revs on the engine and the handling and throttle response is even better. -2023 Sport Hatchback Owner
The CVT doesn't have gears. It's simulating gears. The Civic Hatchback (aside from the CTR) also doesn't have VTEC.
While this is very true, it is still very fun and responsive and an athletic car overall. Its not blazing fast or quick but it gives a lot of fun for a nice daily drive that I would have otherwise imagined. The sport mode makes some adjustments to the suspension and throttle response its awesome to me. But I am biased @@tsenif

@@michaelrogel2464 If you've never driven a quick car before, it can be a fun little commuter. I used to have the '19 Civic Sport Touring Hatchback. I traded it in for the Mazda3 Turbo Hatchback, because the CVT & FWD was rather boring.
There's a lot of cars on the market for $30k you can get that are far better.
Now my perfect new Honda Civic I can buy.
I my opinion Iblike the look of the hatchback better than the sedan. Just something from the back that gives it a more sporty appearance. And the color gives it a big helping hand. You know what they say, who doesn't like a great looking rear end? 😉
Definitely a Civic! No question about it
For that price you might as well look into the Acura Integra. Insane! For a similar vehicle, I would research the new Subaru Impreza RS. Its cheaper and includes AWD.
True. Not that Integra presets any better value prop but 32k + whatever dealer might get on you pretty much wipes it all out any advantage over a Mazda 3.
Plus, the Subaru is built in Japan, not Ohio.

@5:02 see, sure am glad I watched Raiti’s rides…. This whole time I thought the Civic Sport Touring, was Turbo but nope Raiti’s sets the record straight “1.5 liter naturally aspirated” damn impressive they’re getting 180hp out of 1.5l with only vtec on the exhaust side 😂😂😂
(Sarcasm af)
It is a Turbo with VTC on intake and exhaust along with VTEC on the exhaust cams.
Love love love me 22’ civic hatch! Got it in boost blue and it’s so crazy cause I wanted the sedan in black. But my dealership didn’t have it, then 2 hatch’s came of the truck and it was between boost blue and black. Clearly the right choice was the boost blue 😂 anyway honestly driving this makes you feel like you’re driving an accord cause it is bigger than the 10th gen. Ride good, love the wheels and Mpgs would be the only thing I would somewhat complain about. It’s 90% my fault cause of the city I live in, but I’d figured I’d mention it. Definitely a great buy and a great first car!
I heard these have horrible mpg’s.
They did a great job with this new gen, but coming in at $34k for a fully loaded, spec'd out Sport Touring Civic Hatchback is just absurd.
Its $41k in my country and we have Like 5x smaller salaries so I think ur Lucky lol. Ur not aware how cheap cars are actually in USA if u compare it with rest of the western World. U have cheapest cars and also gas lol.
Especially in the southeast asian countries where foreign cars get taxed 2 or 3 times more of the car MSRP. But hes got a point too. 34k may as well get the accord
this is a sport touring so it’s a 1.5L turbo
Two weeks ago I bought a Rallye Red Civic Touring sedan. I don't regret it for one minute. The Corolla wasn't even on my radar...I had a '22 as a rental for a week. I found it loud, brash, and tinny. I don't like panoramic sun roofs.
This is the 1.5 l Turbo Joe 🙂It is not naturally aspirated😁,IS IT April fools day today?

I ordered the Civic Hatch eHev (full hybrid) version with the 2.0L naturally aspirated engine and 2 electric motors giving 50mpg and still having a sporty car. And a coupé like look. There will be only a few of them on the German Autobahn as Honda is losing market share heavily in Germany.
That was my exact car. I really miss it. I had to sell it because my dog was really sick and I’m paying for her medical bills and I wasn’t not gonna try to save her, that wasn’t even a thought! I will do anything for my dogs, anything! But if I ever get another car, it’s definitely gonna be the same exact model and color! And I had mine really modded tastefully!😂🚗

Alright Joe let’s see what this Civic is bringing to the table
Although it's sluggish, that helps save on gas. Who's really speeding off at 100 mpg in 2 seconds from a red light anyways? Haha. Great review once again. Thanks brotha!
mazda cx5 carbon edition $ 32000 awd 191hp suv ???
I've been going back and forth between this and the mazda3. The only thing that would make honda take my money is the amount of space in the trunk and back seats as I have a kid on the way
I tried them both. If you want more power just tune it with the honda. The Mazda has more bottom end power but that's it
I drove the Mazda before I bought the civic and the Mazda drove like complete ass in comparison, I felt the Mazda seating in the rear, and I drive the Hatchback and the sedan…. The hatch was worse but they both had the same floaty rear end. I bout the civic the next day, no regrets. Also the Mazda infotainment was boring and the dash was all black and looked so boring like a rental car
What’s the difference between this 2023 and my 2022 looks excactly the same
Can’t go wrong with either choice but from experience the Civic would cost more to insure.
now that's a Hot Hatch! 👍🙂
There are few auto rivalries more intense than the Civic vs. Corolla. The Japanese society likes to have two close competitors duking it out for victory. It keeps the two firms from getting decadent. When Honda merged the Civic and Accord platforms, the CIvic got better, but the Accord got worse (what a shocker!). Amazing what mileage they can get out of a regular engine. I bought an accord a long time ago for 20k, so disappointing that a Civic is 31k (at least 34 out the door with CA sales tax of 10%) ouch.
keep in mind this is the sport touring, the base model (which is plenty in my opinion, dont care about bells and whistles) sits around 24
Do they still use those plastic timing chains?
Honda should stop calling the Honda civic hatchback a hatchback. It's more of a liftback body style.
Maybe, but users are still going to refer to the back door itself as the hatch.
Would you put 93 in the turbocharge version Raiti or stay with 87?
93 must have, even service techs recomment to put premium in 1.5T
This is some American model??
In europe we have:
CVT butons and AC vents rear.
We have 2.0 Hybrid Advance.
And also a panoramic roof.
We ordered one and it will be home soon😳 25.9.❤

Love this Civic Hatch, the design looks very unique. It has a couple zonks but for the price is a nice option to buy.
So your saying that the 1.5 is naturally aspirated?
Pano roof would be nice with an 8spd
Honda finally got the right.. smooth with the body...
Big time for sure!
How do u think of 3 hatches and the gti isn't on the list
GTI ftw
This is nice but the 10th gen 1.5T civic gets 36 mpg average road + highway driving so its worth more than the hybrid plus you dont have to deal with battery and hybrid components maintenance.
Joe, do you think it's worth it to get this or the Integra?
Go to your insurance and ask the difference, that premium and or subsequent deductible usually is the make or break for informed decisions about what car to purchase. I would say because of the Integra will have a higher insurance rate as they are not being produced as much they will have less chance of replacement in a total loss collision.
If no noticeable difference, I would choose the Civic as scratch and ding, the Honda is an everyday driver.
I wish Honda would give us a hatchback Si model again.
5:04 This 1.5L is not a naturally aspirated engine. It has turbo.
Should be panoramic for sure
