Is the 2023 Honda Civic Si a BETTER sport sedan than a Kia Forte GT?

- The Civic Si has always been Honda's value priced sport compact car. On the outside you will find a 18 in wheels, dual exhaust, LED headlights and black accents. On the inside will be greeted by cloth sport seats, 9in infotainment system, and seating for 5. Under the hood is a 1.5L turbocharged inline-4 that produces 200HP & is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. Is the 2023 Honda Civic Si a BETTER sport sedan than a Kia Forte GT?

I actually cross shopped the Civic Si and Forte GT, and I ended up with the Kia. Even without the markup, the Honda was more expensive for less content. I agree that the Si drives better, but the Forte is close enough while also having features that are a must-have for me. Largely, I did not want a cloth interior because I have a dog and you can never get all of the fur off of cloth seats. I also really wanted ventilated seats because I drive long distances and hate getting back sweat in the summer. The cherry on top for the Forte GT was a much more prominent exhaust sound; it makes it clear that it's not just a regular Forte without going too far into boy-racer territory.

The 11th gen Civic looks good all over. The Sonic Grey is tasteful and the interior with the red trim is a nice touch. Just bought a â22 Canadian spec Civic Si today that I came across already in the states! Loving it & plenty of creature comforts đ
@Juan Suarez thatâs not actually the rule. Itâs more complicated than that.
The Canadian Car and the USA car are the same vehicle so it already conforms to our regulations.
The actual tricky part is financing a new one as an American. An American bank wonât wanna deal with a Canadian dealer, and a Canadian bank wonât do business with an American whoâs going to register a car in a different country.
Love the Honda SI and the Hyundai Elantra N. Both come in a 6-speed manual and with a turbo . The problem is that it is difficult to find one locally to test drive and compare. And then there are the markups S.H Honda dealership are putting on top of msrp. I watched a prior video on Elantra N, and now this video. Both reviews are great, and making the decision a more difficult choice. Thank you for sharing
Easy way to get around the mark up is to custom order. And go to different dealerships until one of them concedes.

SGP was the color I was hoping to get when I was initially looking for my Si. Couldn't find it, but found a Black for basically MSRP when everyone else was parking them up 5k so I took it. Now I've got a FL5 in SGP coming in, so I guess all things work out in the end!
Was at a Honda dealer today that had a blue Si. But they wanted $36k . Smh
@ThatDudeJessie Yeah, that's ridiculous. The markup on my FL5 was 5k but after calling 50+ dealers and seeing a minimum of 8k from ONE, and 10-15+ from all the others I decided to just grab it.
Honda really knocked it out of the park on the civic's design. Damn near perfect.

The idea is to push customers towards the Integra for the upgraded amenities, although you need the top-of-the-line trim to even get a manual. But you do get the fog lights, adaptive dampers, heated seats, dual climate control, leather, hatchback, full exterior LEDs, better sound system, and more.
It worked with me! 23 Integra 6MT-with adaptive suspension, been USING the heated seats for first 10 minutes at 35F (SF Bay Area snow!), sound is great, fog lamps helped in heavy rain, hatch is great, etc. Most of the 0-60 diff with Si is Summer tires vs All Season. Great ride and still fun on "twisty bits". When tires are in need of replacement I' go with higher performance all weather. Also got for 35,300 when Si was still going for 35K
I went 2023 Kia Forte GT2 Turbo at 30k out the door đȘ đ
Folks just get yourself a 2022 model and save some money. Not worth the 2023 SI, not to mentioned everything is practically the same AND Honda failed again to bring all the things the Canadian model has like dual climate control, fully digital speedometer and tachometer, fog lights etc. Just disappointing to see them repeat what they did to the US consumers again for the 2023 model and I was a sucker that bought the 2022 US model hoping they'd change for the 2023 to trade it in but nope.. def gonna look for something else now.

I got one of these and love it put around 1250 miles on it and its such a fun daily driver
I just ordered mine today really excited for my first new car
This car is probably my favorite entry level sport sedan. Decent power, a fun drive, a decent amount of features, and most importantly, the same practicality as a normal Civic, so you wonât sacrifice the daily livability. And the price is really good in my opinion, you can get this for the same price as a Camry SE (if you can get around dealer mark ups). About the all season tire issue, Iâm the outlier and I actually prefer the all seasons. In North Carolina, the weather can get pretty nasty so even though you are sacrificing the handling slightly, you wonât have to worry about bad weather which makes it more practical. I wish it would be a no or lower cost option so the customer could choose. But if I was to get a new car, this would probably be at the top of the list.
i wouldn't be so worried about poor weather handling in this car since it has a limited slip differential. i saw a video of a guy who takes his Integra through snowy mountains with all season tires, and it performs exceptionally!
SI is good for MSRP anything over isnât worth it
I would have to agree with you Ryan!
HONDA Civic SI is overpriced !!!! It's 28k the " base " model if you want it loaded you gonna have to pay 31 k for this car plus whatever extra money the dealership is going to charge you at least another 4k so you looking around 35k for this car isn't worth it

As always a comprehensive upbeat review. Regarding fog lights I hear ya, something looks like it's missing without them. Fogs look nice and offer additional light when needed. The current generation Lexus ES350 no longer offers fog lights either, obviously another way auto manufacturers continue to cost-cut.
Very good point!
This kind of cost cutting is not acceptable. When the intensity of fog is to such as extend that you cant figure out what's ahead of your car's front bumper. Its the fog lights that is required at that point.
@Juan Suarez "Their job is to help you find the lines on the road" you say. Then how would you expect to find those lines without those fog lamps?
When you have fog up to your front bumper, the light thrown by the main headlamp doesn't help. It actually makes driving worse, as the thick fog only acts like a mirror the more light thrown on it by main headlamp, the more you get blinded. Switch off the damn headlamp and just run on fog lamps allows you to " find the lines on the road".

Joe, every time you and Lori do work with a Honda dealer, challenge them on their insane markups on cars like these.
The infotainment being upright I believe is to reduce glare and improve overall visibility.. as opposed to something that is slanted which nobody would ever do with their hand held device or TV, etc..

used to have an 88 accord, it was a solid craigslist beater but so fun drive! it was tight and a joy to drive w/the moonroof open although it was sloooooow. wonder if this new civic would give the same "experience" to fulfill my midlife crisis lol? under 30k, not bad at all. the amenities are not that big of a deal... just the 6 speed, moonroof, and that tight driving feel is what matters to me.
Great review Joe. You have driven the si and integra. What do you prefer?
I own a Canadian 2022 Civic Si and have driven the new Integra multiple times. Itâs definitely nicer experience ie sound system, quieter, has the hatch and lots of additional features. Itâs also more money. Iâm happy with my Si but if money was not a factor I would prefer the Integra. BTW even the horn is better in the Integra.
For me, this would be the perfect car, with one exception.... it would have have been nice if Honda would have offered a power driver's seat to be able to get the proper "H' point in order to relieve lower back pain. It may seem small, but for someone with lower back problems, not having that feature is a deal killer for me.đ Great review, Joe!
I have back issues and I was worried about the same thing before buying my '23 Si. But now I gotta say that the seats are probably one of the best things I like about the Si! Even if I could adjust the lumbar position, I'd likely keep it right where it's at. I just wish it came with 25 - 30 more hp.
I would love to know what you would choose 2023 Honda Civic Si or 2023 Subaru BRZ (Toyota 86)? Love the video. The Si is a great car for a good price. I am hoping to find one in my area to test drive. Great job as usual.

I donât understand the 200HP, the SI in 2024 should have a minimum 250HP by now! Cmon Honda!!! What generation SI is this again?
Honda engineers came to the correct determination that you don't need more than 200hp on an Si.
@@eternallogic6394 im sure they did! Or they were told to do so
11th gen.
These have plenty of power from the factory for their intended purpose. Honda also knows what people like doing to these. 250hp is dead easy to achieve on this motor with an OTS tune.
@@znghant most places canât TUNE properly and a check engine light is always on. From the factory it needs to be 250 HP. No one is better than the Honda or Toyota Engineers. Those japs are in another level, they put the sissy Germans to shame
@@stavroslask1292 Youâre correct, and those same engineers decided 200hp was enough for this car in stock form and then made another one that does 300+ reliably in stock form. đ€·đŒââïž But there are/were plenty of incredibly well-documented 10th Gen Civics running OTS or custom tunes and how reliable theyâve been. Majority of the issues came from user error (bad timing parameters, overly aggressive torque curve, etc. from inexperienced tuners trying custom shit), failed CVTs/engine internals for non-Siâs, or failed gaskets from head lift. The OTS tunes have been pretty safe at 250whp versus the 200 @ crank from factory.
Either way, workarounds exist, but I doubt weâre seeing a raw power bump from the factory until Honda goes hybrid for the Siâs powerplant.
I have the 2022 honda for about a year now and I gotta tell you it's a good daily driver so much mpg. When it comes to speed it has potential but it also has it's limits so be aware. overall it's a fun car to drive.

Si looks fantastic, I wish the regular sedans came with the manual without having to go hatch.
I ended up with a 2020 Si. My first new new car ever and am very happy with it. These newer ones are a bit muted for my taste. The fog light thing difference between us and Canada is silly. Same as not getting a heated stearing wheel in my year car. I am in Tampa multiple times a year. I will have to stop in some time. As far as stock tires go, I wouldn't even recommend either. Ask for Michelin Cross Climate 2's and enjoy your life.
@SiSePuede_Juan I went from the summer tires to these and the Performance doesn't even compare. Also my Si is a commuter. I like how driving in the rain feels like dry road and hitting a puddle at speed doesn't jerk the wheel.

I did the same I checked the Honda dealership first with the Honda Civic SI and I was adding everything the Kia Forte GT2 has, almost everything because there's a couple of things the Honda Civic SI can't upgrade because they don't have it and out the door it was going to be 36k đąđ«°đ° so the better option for the money it's the 2023 Kia Forte GT2 plus the warranty 10 years or 100 thousand miles can't beat that !! đđđ And it cost me 30k outta the dealership
â@@maoinc13there are no options on the Si other than mats, color, etc.
