My husband's symptoms became unignorable last year. He is carnivore 87 days now and the difference is drastic. The first month he "cheated" a few times, eating something off plan and the change was drastic and immediate. I could tell he ate something he shouldn't have. His continence changed drastically each time. He's been clean of carbs for the last two months and though he still an occasional bad day it's still better than it was before we went carnivore. He feels the difference and it has been such that he refuses to give in to temptation again.

I know what you mean about immediate countenance change. My son is doing carnivore (me too) for anxiety and depression. The day or the day after he goes off the proper human diet, I hear it in his voice even. More forced speech and he becomes very short tempered. He’s beginning to recognize it too. Hallelujah. I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes back in 2021 with a fasting glucose of 511 and an A1C of 15. In May 2023, my A1C was a 9.2 and as of August 21st, it is now a 5.8 with a fasting glucose of under 100 on a consistent basis. I began my ketogenic diet journey on April 10, 2023 to take control of the diabetes and realized that my IR was changing when the skin tags on the right side of my neck literally disappeared within 4 weeks of starting a keto diet. I will never stop doing keto because I have seen the changes that have taken place within my body. I have lost about one dress size within the past 3-4 months and this is without doing strenuous exercise. Even my primary care physician cannot believe that I reversed the diabetes within 3-4 months!

My great grandma still drives, lives alone, can still beat us at a game of cards now n then. She eats food, plain and simple. Not that fake junk, stuff like homemade Sheppard's pie with veal, eats once or twice a day. My gramps is much the same, 74, fells trees and chops firewood for the winter, re-roofed his house alone, and works doing electrical engineering jobs on the side. He specifically cut out eating most bread in the 70's after seeing the toxic preservatives out in the stuff. Mostly meat and eggs with a side of veg, sometimes oats or a slice of sourdough. Sugary things only as a rare treat. Perfect ~115/70 blood pressure, 60bpm heart rate. I'm trying to follow the same thing, if not better, knowing this. I eat most of my energy calories from meat. I'll have some veg if I go to the effort of cooking something more complex than meat. Rarely, I'll eat beans, seasonal fruit, potato, or anything sweet. Usually just for the occasional family dinner for holidays. I still mostly fill up on the turkey or ham.

People with Alzheimer's disease are removed from the society "for their own good", but imo also at least half of the reason is that people don't like to face disturbing things and this disease is disturbing AF. If we all had to deal with such people on a daily basis, then prevention of Alzheimer's dementia would be among top interests of social media

I had the privilege and honor of being my daddy’s caregiver from the time he came to live here on our property from age 82-88.
However, since his ischemic stroke in 2020 sadly his mixed dementia has really escalated to the point where he needed more 5:08of my time and attention than I could physically and mentally give.
He came down sick w pneumonia and after just 1 week in the hospital his dementia deteriorated so far that he now needed 24 hr care.
I had gotten so run down that i got sick too.
Daddy is now living in a Alzheimer’s unit at a local nursing home very near my house.
He is adjusting well and feels secure when he goes to bed at night.
I am trying to get well so I can go visit my daddy as his oldest daughter, rather than his caregiver 🙂.

Thank you, ive been carnivore for 90days and cured every chronic illness i had (63yo Australian male). I have come to believe that the war on cholesterol is based on bullshit research, paid for by a special interest group. Every person on this diet proclaims vast improvements in mental health, and as its a high cholesterol diet, and the brain is 25% cholesterol, i think it makes sense that a majority of neurological illnesses would respond favourably to it. In fact, I jokingly "blame" Danny for giving me the final pieces to carnivore that have helped my mom maintain her physical strength, even into these last 6 months that she has been on hospice. As she nears the end, we are gearing up to begin openly talking about her 12 year+ journey through the disease. I just copied this from another post I made elsewhere in the comments, hopefully it is beneficial...
At the bare bones basic of the disease, the brain can no longer utilize glucose for energy. The brain becomes more and more resistant to it. Amy Berger talked about this at KetoCon... 2018 (if I remember correctly). What Dr Mary Newport did with her husband was try to leverage ketones without really going hardcore keto with her husband (again, if I remember correctly). Dr Georgia Ede has talked about how we can shift about 70-ish-% of our brain's required energy to ketones. What that does within the disease is lengthen the sufferers plateaus within the disease, as well as makes for smaller cognitive declines when it does happen. That's really not even the best parts of it though! Obviously getting them metabolically healthy as early into a diagnosis will create better 2nd and 3rd order outcomes as well. Polypharmacy is rampant within out older communities EVERYWHERE. The health benefits of just getting them to a point where doctors can no longer justify medicating them to the moon will again create better 2nd and 3rd order outcomes. When we look at what standard of care continuing education publishes, we find that the 2 main causes of death are (in this order) falls and aspiration. Remove the excess meds, and by sheer magic, mom no longer needs a walker, and she barely needs a HurryCane.
Bottom line: Doc Berry is 100% spot on with this.
The quiet part though, the "Association" isn't of much value to those of us doing the real work of caring for our loved ones.

About 5 years ago I was given a big scare by my doc who warned me to consider getting long-term care insurance! My metabolic syndrome had worstened, by memory for even simple words was becoming a problem and when I stood up I'd be light headed and woozy. This was NOT looking good. Thankfully, my doc (who was a standard doc overall) suggested I try the Keto diet, and I jumped in fully! In 6 months I'd dropped 35lbs and a long struggle with depression completely lifted. My numbers were looking better and better... Recently I went carnivore hoping to get at the hold out of my metabolic syndrome, hypertension. I dropped more weight down to my teen year weight, although I have lots of energy to lift weights and have muscled up somewhat. I can't believe at 64 I look and feel this way! My brother died at about this age, so I feel I may well have dodged the bullet. Also, I've tried to follow Bredesen's protocol- I wonder if Carnivore is better for some of us??

She would not eat avocados, although she loved them. She would decline cheese (even on a hamburger!) because "who wants the extra calories?". She wouldn't eat bacon, kept her egg intake to a certain limit. When the low fat product "SnackWells" came out, she was so excited, that she could have 'as many as she wanted'. She was a life long smoker--from the age of 14--which didn't help. She was about 66 when the dementia signs began. She was gone before her 70th birthday.

What I have learned is that the brain actually "runs on" ketones first and if there isn't enough of that it will switch to glucose, but glucose is a very poor substitute. I've also read that it's your liver that produces ketones but like many of the other substances in your body, it loses its ability to produce enough for our brain as we age-some more so than others. Dr. Ken is right. The ketogenic diet or better yet, the carnivore diet helps your body to produce more ketones. @@laureng732 Hi yes ofcourse...3 tablespoons coconut oil after each meal...along with 1000mg of keto mct oil (now In capsule form..used to be liquid form) Also 3 times a day after every meal.Took him a few weeks to work himself up to that dose gradually without diarrhoea. Totally fine after that.He also takes melatonin capsules at night...as you know sleep very important to wash away accumulated brain toxins each night.
Personally I believe a similarish dose 4 times a day would be better...as that timing works better for the oils timeline as it were.Apart from that he is doing everything else wrong...diet etc...as I think I mentioned...very silly of him.But still great results...only took also maybe 2 weeks to start seeing real progress.Hope this helps !

I will say that taking chemicals out of your diet and your life may prevent problems that come in your 70’s and 80’s as far as memory is concerned. My mother was the classic Dementia/Alzheimer’s healthy body, no heart problems, no pre-existing conditions, however she loved carbs, she took synthetic hormones after total hysterectomy at age 40, she took blood pressure meds, then they gave her cholesterol meds, then those awful flu and pneumonia shot year after year. By the time she was 75 years old, her brain was toxic! She was not overweight, she had no problems until all these chemicals ruined her life! She spend the last 12 years of her life with no short term memory and no functional skills beside walking. So sad, yes I think a Ketogenic diet will deter these unfortunate events. I am following that diet closely now, thank you Dr. B, for at least giving us hope for a better brain 🧠 into our 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. The brain needs fuel and my dear mother ran out of brain fuel, she passed at age 87. Her cause of death was listed as kidney failure, that’s because her brain didn’t tell her to drink, she did not ever have a kidney problem!! Sad,sad…….

I was diagnosed with frontal temporal lobe dementia 8 years ago. At the time it was devastated having to leave my profession nursing that I loved. Strangely enough I improved after about 4 years and most people are unaware. However, noticed increased forgetfulness, constantly losing everything, difficulty concentrating, and apathy. Could this help me?

    • @Cindy75K

Yes, you have insulin resistance and your brain is starving, so your nerves are dying due to lack of glucose. People with higher levels of insulin resistance used less blood sugar in areas of the brain most susceptible to Alzheimer’s. When that happens, the brain has less energy to relay information and function. If you don’t have as much fuel, you’re not going to be as adept at remembering something or doing something. Feed the brain with ketones which the brain loves and CAN use, Intermittent fasting, cut out all sugar, cut out carbs. Carnivore is the best, or ketovore (keto but more meat) and supplement with MCT oils and coconut oils especially when you feel your brain struggling. I'm 47 (almost 48) and I had bad brain fog years ago, been keto over 2 yrs, migraines went away after a few months starting keto. The healing process takes time, but it gets better, just stick to it!

My mother died at 92 and spent her last 10 years of life suffering with dementia. As a product of the 1970s fear of fat, my mother was deathly afraid of fat in her diet - but she loved her jelly beans. Her diet was probably 90 % carbohydrates for most of her life. More research is needed concerning the role of diet and type 3 diabetes. Thank you!

Great-gran, gran, and mother all had dementia. I am 55 and starting to struggle cognitively. I'm about 60 pounds overweight, probably with insulin issues. (I don't go to the doctor and don't take meds.) Keto and IF are no longer an option, but a must. I don't want to become unable to perform ADLs or not know loved ones. It is a truly horrible disease. Today, I begin healing. Thank you for sharing your wisdom.

I introduced both a ketogenic eating plan and intermittent fasting to my mother, almost by accident. There has been a marked improvement in her symptoms over the past year and a half of these changes. She isn't exactly back to her old self, but her cognitive function has improved noticeably and remarkably, not to mention the fact that she has become stronger and steadier physically. It is certainly worth trying, under advisement from the individual's G.P. We have also been able to reduce her dependence on medication, which can only be a plus considering the side effects associated with many of the medications she was on. All the best.

My dad had some type of dementia. He was too far along to ascertain the type. He was a vegan before it was popular. Later, added meat back into his diet! He never had diabetes or heart disease. His weight was normal as was his BP. He did not drink or smoke. He did swig Benadryl daily for allergies! There are studies about these antihistamines causing dementia. But to be honest, i think my dad starved himself, and did not consume enough fats. His brain was starved. He believed severe calorie restriction led to better health. I’m not sure he ate enough to even fuel his body, much less his brain. Brilliant man, gone too soon at 80.
I live in fear of getting this! Began Keto/IF in Jan! 19/5, super easy. Don’t miss a thing! Keep up the good work Dr. Berry!! Thank you

😅No money in this!🤗 Thank you did! Blessings! My mom has this and all she wants to eat are sweets! When my dad was in the hospital at the beginning of February she told him him that when he gets out, there will be no bread or sweets anymore in the house but he passed and she took it so hard, I never imagined that she will suffer after dad so much! From then on I see a decline on her ability to speak, comprehend, simple tasks are huge for her, it's real and I seeing all these and I need to do something about it for me, because I am super stressed and haven't been sleeping well for years and I see how I can't find words, she doesn't have diabetes but I do! She is 83 soon to be 84 but I am over 20 years younger and if I don't do something now I will be in a worse shape sooner than she is now! The big problem I have is that I have no energy to prepare (and she is no help) the food that I know is good for me and my family! She can walk and sqoat for hours (not that much anymore) and I can't right now! 😟

I have been keto-carnivore for a while so changing the majority of his diet wasn’t too hard. But he insists on his sugary cereal in the morning and half a PBJ for lunch. Dr. Berry, LOVE YOU BROTHER!!! THANKYOU, for opening up this discussion, and pointing out the obvious as some other brave warriors like you have. (Why the world hasnt took this and ran for a cure with the given findings) My mom is 85 and was diagnosed with vascular dementia 2 yrs. ago.
I accidentally found/then watched Dr. Mary Newmans videos and what she did for her late husband. At the time my mother was having severe sundowners/and she never wanted to get out of bed. Going downhill rapidly!! We started slowly introducing pure coconut oil into her daily intake(keytones) and it has worked tremendously. No more sundowners after about a month into it and cognitively she is functioning so much better. She will get out of bed now with very little fear/and less hesitation. No it hasn't cured her, but it has made her halfway normal again (in my opinion). I just can't seem to get saturated animal fats in her because she doesnt want to chew meat. She chews and then takes it out using her napkin. Otherwise i would have her on carnivore.
She is a tiny woman and never has been a big eater and with this disease it has been a struggle to get her to eat but since the coconut oil even her willingness to eat has somewhat improved. I SURE HOPE MY MESSAGE HELPS EVERYONE. PLEASE continue to drive this subject Dr. Berry! There is truly something happening here on both ends of this topic. God Bless You Brother

My Mother passed from complications from Alzheimers/ Dementia a couple years ago. I tried to get my Dad to give her cbd oil ( didn't know about mct and keto/carnivore being beneficial for it at the time). Long story short, if a Dr didn't prescribe it, they weren't having any of it. 😢 The good news is that after she passed, my Dad finally gave keto a serious try( after seeing me, at 56, lose 60 lbs and feel better than I had in 30 years) and dropped a major amount of weight and has helped his chronic ( self induced) health problems. Too late for Mom, but better late than never for my Dad.
