  • Millions of people take a statin (zocor, lipitor, crestor, livalo, lescol, altocor) thinking it will lower their risk of having a heart attack. What they don't know is that the statin is doing these 7 things to their body; even many doctors don't know all 7.
Here is the 7 things a statin does to your body, and steps you can take to minimize the risk. This is not a complete list, statins do many other worrisome things inside your body, the more you research the more you will know...

After 25 years on statins my father was like a zombie and could barely walk. Doc said it was "absolutely necessary" to keep taking them to prevent heart attack or stroke. I asked the doc why the Lipitor warning label says their product does not prevent heart disease or heart attacks to which he had no answer. Stopped taking statins 6 months ago and he has gotten strength in his legs back and regained memory. Statins are poison. Your body needs cholesterol.

I am 68 years female and started taking statins at age of 64 . I had terrible side affects while taking statins, continued bladder infection, foggy memory, muscle pains , my glucose level went up. I was taking so many antibiotics l, medicine for pre diabetes, and bunch of other meds .I felt terrible and stopped taking them all. It was awful couple of years and I thought that is part of aging .
I stopped taking them against my doctors advice . Now I watch my carbs and sugar intake , walk a lot and take no meds. I feel fantastic, have a lots of energy. For me all health issue disappeared after I stopped taking statins . It took a while tifeel better. I think few months , and almost a year for all of the symptoms to be completely gone .

Then I discovered your channel and several others. The difference between 1% and 3% is 2%, not 50%. It all depends on how you look at it. Absolute vs relative. When discussing the benefits they use relative. When discussing side effects they use absolute. Technically not lying but morally they are.

Please be careful, I'm no doctor but from the multiple accounts and articles I've read it's not the diet that's helped. In fact in an article I read they say being on the carnivore diet with high blood pressure can make it worse, as well it can cause constipation since you consume little fiber when on the diet. Things like bacon or lunch meat can also be high in sodium and as you probably know, high amounts of salt can lead to high blood pressure. You may also be lacking vitamins that are mostly found in things like fruit and vegetables.

I was on ststins for 30 years to lower cholesterol. It did. It lowered my LDL from 190 to 50. Then I read the drug trials. Lipitor says reduction of CVD by 36%. But that is relative reduction. Absolute reduction is 1.1% and no change in ACM. An LDL of 50 is considered abetalipoprotenemia where you body does not make enough cholesterol and you die early. Side affects, brain fog, skin cancer, T2D, ED, parkinsons. I fired my doctors. Our body requires cholsterol and recycles the cholesterol. Our brains make their own cholesterol. Eat a lot of fruit, esp bananas, I cook and bake for myself.
I live in NZ and had to go to Brisbane, Australia for a liver transplant in 94 for treatment of Hepato-Pulmonary Syndrome. (My 30th anniversary in September) after release, I heard that my favourite ward surgeon, Dr Christine, was leaving the ward to study Plastic surgery, and a lot of the doctors and patients were going to the Norman Pub close to the hospital. The pub has a large garden bar with a fire pit and barbecue so being an ex Advertising Man ( not allowed to go back into that!) and old habits being hard to break, I arrived early and ordered a large medium fillet steak, medium rare.
My surgeon, Steve Lynch, arrived soon after, and I greeted him, and said “Steve, I’ve got to buy you a drink, what’ll you have?”
He told me, and I went to order it, and a lemonade for myself (!)
My dinner arrived, and I tore into it! (didn’t take long to cook that steak!)
A beautiful meal, and about halfway through it, Steve reached across the table, tapped the side of my plate next to the steak with his fingernail, and when I looked up, he said, “You know, that is the best thing you can ever put inside yourself.”
      Thank you, Steve.

A years ago I was referred to a cardiologist due to my chest pain plus shortness of breath, Doctor doubled up my crestor dosage to 10 mg. I felt that my muscles and bones, particularly the chest ribs pains were getting worse. Without talking to any doctors I reduced my crestor dosage down to 5 mg daily. It seems that I am feeling better after a month. In today’s regular visit to my family doctor, I requested his approval to reduce my dosage to 5mg (of course I didn’t tell him I have done it myself), he refused and said it is good for my heart. It's ridiculous how many medications so many patients are on. The worst is the antibiotics ordered without any gut support. Without fail, tons of our patients end up getting C. Diff, which of course means MORE (harsher) antibiotics. I can't wait to look into studies more and build up my credibility so I can start pushing back against some of these things that worsen patient outcomes. But ultimately I'll have to get out of the hospital setting and into home care because hospitals do not provide holistic health care.

But what really tipped the scales for me in terms of deciding that I didn't want to continue on a statin was a podcast discussion on CZcams between Dr. Mark Hyman and Dr. Robert Lustig. They talked about how LDL is what we treat in medicine because it's what we've got meds for. And if we're going to follow LDL, we should be monitoring the LDL-P (LDL particle number) -- most doctors don't check this.

He said not true. So on 10 mg atorvastatin and 81 mg aspirin. Did you also take aspirin. I do have plaque in my left descending artery, i think 49%.

I have a a friend who got severe brain fog while on a statin. His muscles got weak and he couldn't exercise more than 10 minutes. He is a big guy too. I told him to stop that statin immediately and a month later he was back to his old self. But people don't learn, we had to go through this a total of 3 times since his evil doctor would insist he went back on it. And to make things worse, his cholesterol wasn't even high! It was resting at about 205. I have been fighting the statin war myself for about 30 years. I am fine.

My elderly mom was taking Zocor for a few years and then out of the blue developed liver cancer. She had a single large tumor and ended up having it removed surgically and did extremely well. Both her reg doctor and her oncology team said that the cancer was possibly from taking the statin drug. She came off it and hasn't had any problems since. She's now 90, cancer free, and thriving bigtime! She eats well and is active. IMO, everyone should take as few meds as possible. All of us take too many drugs as we age and a lot of them don't really help all that much.

A guy goes to the USDA to apply for a job.
The interviewer asks him, "Are you allergic to anything?"
He replies, "Yes, caffeine. I can't drink coffee.
"Okay, have you ever been in the military?"
“Yes," he says, "I was in Iraq for one tour."
The interviewer says, "That will give you 5 extra points toward employment."
Then he asks, "Are you disabled in any way?"
The guy says, "Yes. A bomb exploded near me and I lost both my testicles."
The interviewer grimaces and then says, "Okay. You've got enough points for me to hire you right now. Our normal hours are from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. You can start tomorrow at 10:00 am, and plan on starting at 10:00 am every day.
The guy is puzzled and asks, "If the work hours are from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, why don't you want me here until 10:00 am?"
"This is a government job", the interviewer says. "For the first two hours, we just stand around drinking coffee and scratching our balls. No point in you coming in for that.

@@sandradeleon6171 I just quit cold turley, with no noticeable issues. I had lost the ability to do long division in my head, which I've been doing since about fifth grade, and at the age of 75 I just figured it was age related cognitive impairment and probably an early sign of approaching dementia. My wife had also noticed that I had some cognitive decline, and there were other brain fog issues as well, all of which cleared up. At the time I quit, I did not know about the cognitive side effects, or that stopping the statin would resolve them, but when I later read about them, I realized that coming off the statin was the reason for the improvement.
When my LDL went through the roof and caused a heart attack (in my doctor, not in me) my PCP demanded I go back on a statin. I told him that even in the unlikely event that the LDL actually significantly increased my heart attack risk, I was not willing to trade brain health for heart health.

Glad you’re off Lipitor, especially if you were getting side effects. @@bombshelltwo8317 It’s my understanding that you can have a rebound of inflammation if you quit statins suddenly (as in a period of extra inflammation). I’m sure that depends on you, which statin, and how big of a dose you’re doing. If I was doing low dose statins (eg 5mg rosuvastatin or 10mg of other statins) I’d probably just quit. If I was doing moderate or high dose statins I’d probably taper off over a month or two. My favorite doctor Ford Brewer at PrevMed thinks low dose statins are good for reducing CV inflammation, which makes sense to me if you have signs of it.
