  • We have some artificial turf puppy toilets that are getting too small for our puppy as she grows so in this video lets try out some options for making a larger one out of grass turf or larger pad of artificial grass.

This is a fantastic idea. My little dog can't make it down the steps hardly anymore. Myself as well. As I have a huge screened in patio I will try this. She has been just going on the patio floor with me frantically cleaning up after her.

Glad it was helpful!, We still keep one of the artificial ones in doors and found that special enzyme sprays are good for removing the smell - so spray the artificial one, leave for a bit then take it outside to spray with garden hose, so is an alternative if dog doesn't like a real turf one.

Solid effort, think I’ll skip the $230 kit and try this. Thanks mate

    Thanks.
Do this eventually start stinking from the pee and poop? How do you rinse it if there is smeary poop?

I think the grass would probably die first. Our puppy was eating the grass so we went with artificial grass. Having the soil in there for two weeks there was no smell so I was impressed with that. Artificial turf on the otherhand does build up a smell, even after soaking in disenfectant. When we have poo on grass outside we spray it with hose, you could do the same thing with this. Just put the grass on a steep angle and give it a quick blast with a strong water spray. When I do that outside it only takes a few seconds. Inside for our artificial turf we use babywipes for soft poo and just wipe til the wipe is clear., could do the same thing with real grass.

Thanks for this, i am thinking of doing something similar but could not decide whether to use real grass or artificial. What was your final conclusion and why? Thanks :)

That is a tough one, our dog kept on trying to dig out the grass but it did not smell. We switched back to artificial turf which we still use for a backup with a dog pad under it to absorb the pee but we have to spray the artificial grass to try to remove any smell every day or second day. We have a few of them so can swap them and leave them in the sun which helps a little bit. Mostly the dog uses the garden and holds it in now.

From a hydroponics store (aqua gardening - Stafford in Brisbane, think they have stores in other cities) - www.aquagardening.com.au/garland-trays-for-grow-bags-or-pots~2134

But you had a Whole lawn for her to pee, and kept the DIY one outdoors as well, not indoors 🤔

I had the rectangular one indoors when peeing and the other outside in the sun. She only gets in the garden while it is light outside, cane toads come out after dark. She hangs on mostly now and pees and poos outside.

I don't get it??? Why not just keep using the fake one inside and the real grass outside???

Was because the artificial one was getting smelly. Our dog kept pulling out the real grass so switched back to the artificial inside. We have since learned that to reduce the smell on artificial grass, you need to occasionally use an enzyme based spray to dissolve the smelly component (urea crystals)
