14 Signs Your Dog Doesn’t Love You (Even if You Think They Do)

  • In this video, we will talk about 14 signs that your dog may not be your biggest fan.
They don’t wag their tail when they see you
You can learn a lot about your pet’s feelings if you observe their tail closely. If you approach your dog and they start wagging their tail with a positive demeanor, it means that your pet is content and happy to see you
A tucked tail on the other hand, is an unmistakable indicator that the dog is feeling nervous or frightened.
They don’t want to cuddle after they eat
Dogs are pack animals that crave companionship. If your dog loves to play or cuddle with you, that’s a good thing. They think of you as part of their pack, and they find your company and attention pleasant.
What’s more, if your dog wants to cuddle with you after they eat, it means they love you. Dog cuddles after meals equate a strong love between owners and canines because this shows that your dog does not view you as just a feeding machine.
Not making eye contact with you
Animal behaviorists believe that a dog’s ability to look into a human’s eyes in a non-aggressive way was one of the first steps toward canine domestication. They somehow learned that humans like eye contact, and by looking into a person’s eyes, they establish a meaningful relationship.
When your dog is willing to gaze lovingly into your eyes, it’s a sign they trust you. On the contrary, if a dog isn't your biggest fan, they will not meet your gaze and will back away. This is because dogs most often choose flight as opposed to fight. By looking away from you, your dog is trying to keep the peace and avoid an attack.
They don’t seem to want to sleep in your room
Wolves and wild dogs purposefully sleep in small, confined areas with pack members they trust to protect against predators.
Our dogs think that we are in their pack, and feel like they can count on us to protect them in the face of a danger.
So, if your dog doesn’t want to sleep in the same room as you, there may be a trust issue.
    They Ignore Your Commands
Some people think training a dog is all about the dog, but it’s actually about the bond shared on both ends of the leash. If a dog doesn’t trust their owner, they are less likely to respond well to training.
Plus, research published in Developmental Science has shown that dogs actually ignore information they deem unnecessary. So, if your pet seems to be giving you the cold shoulder and ignoring your commands all of a sudden, it's a good sign they're not happy with you.
They wag their tail to the left when you are around
It may be hard to catch, but a dog will wag their tail to the left if they are suspicious of another dog or a person they don’t trust.
Recent studies suggest that a tail wagging to the left indicates negative feelings, fear or stress. Dogs may show this tail wagging behavior in the presence of an unfamiliar, dominant dog or person. On the contrary, tail wagging to the right indicates positive feelings.
They disappear whenever you are around
If your furry friend insists on maintaining a distance from you, then there's a good chance they’re trying to avoid you on purpose.
They don’t relax when you're around
Sleeping puts a dog in a very vulnerable position. A happy dog will snooze, relax, and expose their belly. Dogs are usually concerned about their safety and won’t expose their vulnerable parts when they aren’t sure about their surroundings.
So if your dog doesn’t let its guard down when you’re around, it could mean they feel uncomfortable around you. On that note, remember that if your dog adopts a side-sleeping or belly-up position, it is an indication that they have no worries. They are relaxed and comfortable with their surroundings and have no uncertainty about it.
They don’t bring you a present
One of the cutest things that dogs do when they trust you is give you toys, bones, or any random thing as a gift.
You may have no interest in your pup's tattered tennis ball, but their willingness to share it with you is a sign of true affection.
So if your dog isn’t willing to share their toys with you, it may be a sign that they don’t trust you enough.
They prefer spending time with someone else
You come home to find your beloved dog snuggling with a member of your family on the couch.
But when you try to join the fun, the dog takes off.
You might also start to notice that your furry friend is following other members of your household, but won’t even spare you a glance.
If your dog turns to others for pets and interactions but consistently ignores you, this is a clear sign that the problem is not them, it's you.
    They don’t like being touched
Petting a dog reassures them that you love them, releases stress, and improves the bond between the dog and owner. While there may be times that your dog is just uninterested and don't want to be petted, if they regularly recoil at your touch, it is a sign of a problem.
    They growl at you
If your dog is growling at you, then they're definitely unhappy.

I like your comment except for just one teeny weensy little thing you said and it was not even bad lol but that one word bugs me when ppl are referring to animals and that is when ppl use the word "it" when talking about an animal like that kinda just makes me feel some kind of way because animals are living, breathing, beings that have feelings and a whole life, they are not an "it" like an inanimate object like say for example a table would be a thing to refer to as an "it" lol like thats all I wanted to say because I always let that slide but not today lol

    Thank you so much!
    I'm 35. Never had a dog before.
    Bought myself a puppy.
I had my suspicions, and while listening to this video, I noticed several symptoms.
He's not abused or being aggressive or anything, but i realized i was basically treating him like a cat.
I went over to him and started giving him attention, didn't pick him up, (Which i would before,) and kept talking to him, gave him a treat, and let him come closer to me when he felt comfortable, and he COMPLETELY opened up.
He's not even 4 months old, and i realized, thanks to this video, that although i wasn't treating him "badly, " i wasn't giving him NEARLY as much attention and affection as he needs.
He's been through a lot the last few months, and i didn't realize id been neglecting him.
    Thank you. ❤

I was bitten by 4 dogs 4 different times in 2013 while I was in Europe and since have not wanted anything to do with dogs. My mother got a golden retriever puppy who was about 10 months when she got him. He immediately ran towards me when the door was open for the first time for him and I reacted in a sort of PTSD like manner and pushed it away. After that, the dog was sort of depressed and I guess feared me. One night, I was sleeping and it came into my room while I was asleep. For some reason I will not ever know, It got in my bed and sat down next to me and lifted my hand on its head. I remember waking up and seeing my hand slightly lifted upwards and saw him. I didn't react with fear and I was calm. I don't know why he got in my bed that night, but I'm glad he did. Glad he did.

Sounds like you gave that puppa doo all the love you could, and that's all any dog could ask for. There are so many that would love to be shown this kind of affection and love. The ones we lose will alway have a piece of our hearts and our love for them will never be replaced, but please, please, please, if you haven't already, consider blessing your life with another poppa doo. Lord knows you will be blessing their lives. I'm sure your last pouch would be happy to see you saving another one if his kind. If you do, you gotta tell your new puppa doo all about your beloved last one....that helps a lot. I cry my eyes out like a little kid every time I lose one, and I've had many. But that's ok, they were worth every tear. It generally takes a few months, and i say I will never get another one, but I am glad I did. I know I can't save them all, but I can absolutely give a couple a great life, filled with all the love a dog could ever ask for.

Got a puppy and would "play fight" with my right arm. She's a few years old and actively informs me when she wants to play fight. Being that she is bigger and stronger she can get her jaws around my arm but it's interesting how she handles certain situations. For instance, if I am not wearing anything long sleeved, she will hesitate to actually "bite" or play for that matter until I make it known that it's OK. She also will ignore my left hand and arm and choose to go after the right. She is also extremely alert during the sessions and if I say "ow" at any point she will immediately stop and start licking my face or arm. If she draws blood on any level (practically never) she notices before I do and stops to lick the wound till I realize it.
I usually pull my arm away and grab some scruff on her back, slap her butt, or hold one of her paws. I try to match her intensity of play. When she deems something I did or am doing is a bit too much for her physically, she will trot off, grab a toy, and bring that to me for us to play with the toy instead.
Also, because I assume someone reading this will assume I am teaching her, it's OK to bite people. That doesn't happen. Even had my sister try to get her interested in play fighting the way I do, and the dog is just confused, lol. She knows the playfighting is just a me and her thing.

Dogs don't always play the same games with everyone. My sister's yorky/Maltese played this game with me she never played with anyone else, not even my sister. If I started I would say something like " what ? " or " huh " or " hey ". If she initiated it she would make a low growl or bark. Once we had each other's attention we would turn our heads away from each other a little bit while giving each other the side eye. We would take turns grunting, each little grunt we would lean closer and closer until we were close, then we would touch our heads together and gently rub our heads together. I don't know why or how we started that game but it always made me laugh. She didn't play that game with anyone else.

Loving is such a loose term. Many Hans say they love someone or some thing....but actually show zero love it's just a word for most. Remember....parents who have killed their kids explain they did so because "they loved them" so..lesson here....if a human claims to love make sure to look for their actions (not words) showing love.
      Example ...
"I love my dog like my kid"...then the person leaves the dog alone for over 6 hours in a day.....that ain't love

My wife and I have had several dogs and cats over our life together. Getting them as a pup pretty much guarantees they will love and trust you (assuming you’re a responsible pet owner). But one of my greatest “victories” as a dog owner was with an old Chocolate Lab “rescue”, we adopted a few years back. The Humane Society “guesstimated” his age at 9 years old. He’d obviously had a rough life. There were pieces missing out of his ears, where they’d obviously been cut, and scars on his muzzle, where he’d been sliced with a knife. They’d had to pull all but 8 or 9 of his teeth, because they were so rotten. He’d put on some weight since being brought into the Humane Society, but was still quite thin. He was understandably scared when we brought him home. We were very gentle with him, and fortunately he clicked right away with our other dog, a 10 year old Black Lab. But if you reached out to pet him when he wasn’t expecting it, he’d recoil in fear. We learned to never come up behind him, then reach down to pet him. Always from the front, so he knew to expect it. He rarely wagged his tail, and walked around the house as if he was just anticipating the next beating. The only time he acted like he was content was when he was in our yard, with our other dog. When we’d come home from work, or doing our running around, our old Black Lab would always run to the door to greet us. But we had to approach the old Chocolate, to say “Hi”. He never greeted us at the door. But over time, he seemed to realize he was safe, and more importantly, loved. Then one day, after we’d had him about 6-7 months, I came home from work. He saw me before our other dog, perked up, and came trotting to the front door, tail wagging furiously, to greet me. It was perhaps the best greeting I’ve ever received from one of our pets, because I realized at that point all of our care and patience with him had paid off. We had another loving canine companion, and he knew he had a safe, loving family. Sadly, we didn’t have him quite two full years, when he passed on. I’m not ashamed to say it broke our hearts, and we both cried like a little girls. But we took some solace in knowing that this sweet old guy at least “crossed the bridge” knowing the love and security of a good home. One of my favourite pictures of him, sucking up for attention, is still the lockscreen photo on my iPhone. I miss him to this day.

I got a dog from a girl who left an abusive relationship. Apparently he did the same to this 15 pound dog. She said he yelled at, kicked, and threw the dog many times. I've had her for three years and she still leaves the room when any male enters, other than my wheelchair bound son. She sometimes pees a little when I pet her and if I pick her up she will pee alot. If I sit on the couch and my wife is in the room, the dog will get on my lap and want me to pet her. She also brings me toys to play alot, but again, only if my wife is there too. She seems like she will never forget that asshole and never fully trust a male human again. But, I know she loves me. She goes crazy when I get home and greets me at my car wagging her tail furiously. She also comes to me when something scares her like fireworks, not to my wife.

I’ve always wanted a dog but was never allowed one as a kid and as an adult I live alone with my cat. I understand enough to understand dogs are social pack animals and condemning one to hours alone locked in a small flat is cruel. I’m not cruel, so while my heart aches every time I see a dog lovingly look at its owner I know it’s not for me.
Fortunately I have my cat and we adore each other.

  • @marywenzel3199
    @marywenzel3199 Před 2 měsíci +2

Dogs are basically toddlers with fur. If you want to bond with your dog, treat them as you would a toddler you care about. Don’t use loud voices or sudden erratic moves. Set boundaries for behavior in a firm but kind manner. Never hit or shout at a dog in anger. Establish routines and stick to them. Spend time walking and playing with your dog. Talk to them in a conversational voice often and reinforce words you want them to learn. Use their name often and pet/ brush them a lot to acclimate them to being touched. Respect their space when they are eating or sleeping and don’t grab at their tails or their back ends suddenly. Make sure you aren’t wearing super heavy perfumes or grooming products that are too strong for sensitive noses. Dogs love to play but don’t force them to do activities if they’re not into it. Big rambunctious dogs might enjoy roughhousing with their owners but smaller or more timid dogs want quieter play. To be loved by a dog is a great privilege, and the trust bond Is the most important aspect of a relationship with man’s best friend.

That's remarkable because for them bared teeth are just the opposite; not only do they figure out that our bared teeth are the opposite of aggression but that they can change themselves to join with us. He was barking at the lizards, but that was the last time anyone seen or heard from him and we have looked everywhere. It’s a close knit community. everyone is out looking for him. I live near a canal. They went in the boat through the canal, looking for him, which is really the unimaginable, but it’s still unimaginable and devastating. He’s not home. I don’t know where he is. I don’t know what to do. I feel like my insides are getting torn apart, I need him home. I love him so much. He’s my best buddy. He’s four years old and he’s not a runaway. I pray and I pray that he comes home. I am lost. I can’t even explain how I really feel is the worst feeling I’ve ever had I’m not gonna give up, but it doesn’t look good at this point he wouldn’t run away he’ll go out but he comes home. They have this magic ability to turn even the coldest of hearts in a soft warm cozy mush, i love it, When i was to get a pupy they oposed me again, we love the old dog so much, we dont want another one they said, so i bring home this lab/rottie pup, all black with a single white spot on her back left paw, so she was named Paw, so i bring her home but i know how pups are if they are not house broken, she was not, so i left her in the cellar bathroom, i made her a cosy bed in the shower, left food and water, some toys and went to sleep. she cried for an hour then i fell asleep. I come back down after a good 5 hour sleep, who do i find there? My father, the guy that was the most against getting a new dog, asleep in Paw's bed with Paw in his lap.

My dog is crazy over my ex, drove me nuts, I got so jealous because he would whine and want out if my ex walked outside etc as I was the 'mommy' who raised him by myself. Ugh! But then I realized my dog acted allllmost the same with my sister and other friends, even choosing to sleep with them on overnights and not with me. Haha he would sleep with them and maybe come be with me in the middle of the night, then back to them, or come sleep with me for the rest of the night and THEN go over to them when they would wake up, dunno, but guess mine's a diplomat. But not with my ex. I know if he was given a choice he'd ditch me in a heartbeat for him. ☹ It made me feel better when my sister was inside my house visiting and I went out to work on my property for a few hours and she said my boy was whining and watching me like a hawk from the big picture window. Shiba Inu really dont like kids from what i know, bullied by other dogs how? So i have a lab rottie, well i have two, but the one in particular, the older one, was bullied by her siblings when they were still with their mom so the mom got pissed and threw the bullying siblings to the side so mine could get a titty. The other one i have, the younger one, never took shit from her siblings and that was precisely why i instantly took a liking to her, the biggest of the litter tried to bully her away from the tit, she fought him and won and then proeeded to lay on him while she was feeding and he could not. That was the first thing i saw from her and right then i knew,, she is perfect. She grew up quite nice i gotta say but there is a problem i find, i think i might be the owner of a transspecies dog. She has so many cat behaviours its crazy, she loves to climb on shit and jump around, she hunts like cats do, in playing ofc, she makes the pose head low butt high tail wagging and thinks she is hidden and then pounces like a cat, she has a way of clawing at you like a cat would and uses her paws waaaay more than i ever seen any other dog do, she has extremely good balance, loves heights and high jumps and if she was not so chonky i can see her climbing trees as well, now she just jumps from branch to branch and for her to climb she'd have to be on a really strict diet with a completely unhealthy low weight so i will not do that but i can see her do it if she could, hell i bet you if you take her parachuting she'd love it...

Wow he must have had a very rough time. I've had abuse dogs all my life (most of them just rough kids not monitored by irresponsible adults, just a few actually HIT by owners) and never had them go past 6 weeks to get more comfortable. Poor little fella.
Although they have all been very quick to bark at outside sounds and hugely distrustful of new humans for the rest of their lives.

@@jpeg.600x2 teaching them really helps. My new pup I’ve had for a week he learnt to sit, lay and stay and loves doing it with me for treats, follows me everywhere and I include him in whatever I’m doing😊 He sleeps with me and whines to wake me up to pee because as soon as he wakes up I take him out. And talk to them a lot Name everything and teach them , slowly form a word list of commands and objects. All these things are interactions between you and your pal Just love him and he’ll love you back❤

I'd never noticed that any of the dogs I've had never actually snuggled up after feeding them. They've all been used to heading straight to their sleeping place after their meal. My understanding is that it's their digestion time. Other than that, I very much agree, mine never cold shoulder me. My current Foxie belongs to my gf, he sees me as his feeder and walker. He used to not cosy up to me but now even greets me with his whining and tail wagging when I arrive from work.

I got mine back after finding out
Mother dearest was given him shots 3 hours after feeding and father dearest who demanded they have him back before he went diabetic/blind/deaf was hitting the blind deaf dog for walking into things he left on floor!?
They Messed him up so bad, ultra tied, ultra ultra disconnected 💔, blind, deaf. 2 days before I was to go back home he started having massive seizures, woke to my mother yelling, I spent night on kitchen floor with him seizures just went on for hours.
Somehow at 15 he made it through the 1,000+mile road trip to my place.
I cooked for him, chicken rice and veggies, including adding things like Cinnamon which is known to help regulate blood sugar, gave him insulin at right time & cut back on insulin.
He was a hoot his last months, daily walks very slow but he was ready even at 5 am!, usually did 2 walks a day, always finding new spot to get stuck in house & yard he became very adventurous, following me ♥️💜 best was when he'd come lay under piano bench as I played.
He was such a trooper! 15 years old & moved over 1,000 miles to a house he'd never been in.
Every morning his tail was wagging♥️💜 once he was with me.
At parents he didn't move, no happy tail, no greetings, he only would be in kitchen or living room.
A lot of work but he died naturally in my arms as we sat outside on a beautiful day.
His last full day they did nice long walk.
Got back he had another seizure, which I had gotten them stopped for few months but 2 days before death they came back.
Last full day was the first time he didn't want to eat or drink after the one seizure.
Up till that point he'd have seizure and bounce right back eating, wagging his tail, wanted to go on walk. Even on slow days he was ready for a walk! And if we'd pick him up, he'd just start hollowing away until he was put down 😅
I knew being diabetic he'd be gone within 24 hours & he was. He wanted to gave have doctor come to house, I was like no we've come this far I will be with him till death arrives, it will be soon.
Something healing when you wait on death and don't demand it.
So glad I didn't crave to bullies telling me to kill him.
It's like I told you he's end life ! I'm the one who is responsible for him 99% of time ! We've come this far, you can quit, I'm not.
FYI if it gets to the Point of diapers, baby diapers from dollar store worked way better for fraction of cost than dog diapers.
He needed help with stairs and I couldn't always, so diapers made clean up so much better.
He actually loved warm Epson salt bathes at the end, few times he actually fell asleep as he'd rest on one of our arms as we held him in tub.
      He lived to 15.
Had us laughing till the end.
Buried him in his favor spot in yard, planted some bleeding hearts, Echinacea and purple flowers💜♥️at his rest spot
      God bless you
Hope you have the support and courage to continue on road of compassion and companionship

The tail wagging is a big one! My dogs have never been big tail waggers (even my current puppy isn't one but she always has it up and such) but one of them does still wag hers when I say her name. She doesn't wag it much more often due to an injury that healed wrong before I adopted her. She almost never leaves my side and if she likes you (which is rare) and you make eye contact, she will follow. The other two- they think they're huskies and can be outside in snow for hours

I think you have to put a big fat asterisk on this. My dog used to be super lovey and affection with me, but she's 16 now and doesn't have the energy to keep her tail wagging or follow me around. She's outlived her life expectancy already as a big dog, so the fact that she still acknowledges my existence through her old age blindness and hearing loss is a huge sign that she loves me.

Someone said their dog is a “jerk,” and many responded “no dog is a jerk.” What a naive and pig-headed response. Different dogs and different breeds have all sorts of different personalities. My first dog NEVER did things he knew would upset me. My third dog often did things he fully knew would upset me. I’ve seen dogs that treat their human “companions” as nothing more than food providers. I’ve had four dogs in my life. All lived to ripe old ages and were wonderful companions, though, as I said, one was very mischievous. One thing I’ve learned: DOGS MUST HAVE EXERCISE. That doesn’t mean a casual walk around the block! They will love you for the time you spend exercising them.

She's also a huge cuddler -- if you try moving away from her while she's cuddling, she will scoot back in and close the distance.
That said, she's very wary of outsiders, so the fact that she can relax around us at least _some_ of the time is good enough for me.

Unfortunately they got attack from another pact of dogs her brother found died and they found her in good condition hidden in thorn bushes. Long story sort we got her and for many months we force her to eat (homemade food cause she could stay without dog food for 2-3 days) and we bring her water to drink in her bed. She didnt want to walk out the house amd she wanted to stay alone in another room. Atm she's eating dog food with small amount of ur food (brit for her liver) or a boiled egg or cheese if the food we have its not good for her , she's even going for walks but she refuse to be more than 30m away of ur home and she's only sleeps in the same room with us but not in the bed with us, she will stay to bed for 5-10min with us for petting and she will jump to her bed. But still 2y pass and she is very afraid of every human she sees and she doesn't play with toys. The medication u said for anxiety sounds interesting , have u something in mind so i can talk it out with m vet ? Cause the 2 vets we visit don't have mention something about it. Also she is getting medication for her liver and hypothyroidism.

The best we could guess was my hubby is very fun and active when playing with our kids and the other dogs. Even then I question it (I full on chased him and the other dogs yelling as loud as I could to save the parrot from them and he would still cuddle with me afterwards).

So good to know that my dog does, in fact, hate me 😂 I rescued him at 2.5 years old in 2015 and he never fully warmed up to me. He did to some extent, but he’s a super anxious dog and he finds any kind of closeness unnerving. He comes to me and lays down next to me but if I try to pet him or interact with him, or make eye contact, he immediately turns the other way or leaves altogether. I don’t know if he’ll ever fully trust me. It breaks my heart

Was he stray before being rescued? I don’t think it’s you he hates, but I think past experience with other humans have made him reluctant to trust people anymore. Just continue giving him all the love and care you can and eventually he’ll come around. Rome wasn’t built in a day, right?

Whenever I'm in the kitchen, you bet my labrador will be there. Well, she won't enter the kitchen unless I say so, but she sits or lay down just beyond the door frame because of the risk of being pushed around if she's by my feet when I'm doing something. If she hears a ball bouncing, she'll be there in a heartbeat. I'll throw the ball, she'll fetch it, but I'm not allowed to take it from her unless I literally dig it out of her mouth and say "Loss", which means "Release". She usually puts the toys by my feet or in my lap when she wants me to throw it again. When my sister died last year, I got the news when I was at work and when I got home Icrashed on the couch and cried and slept for at least a couple of hours. My faithful Labradog understood something was up the moment I stepped in the door and refused to leave my side. Since I had cut my workday short, she woke me at the time I usually take her on a walk by gently bumping her nose on my face. I also guessed she wanted me to fill her bowl as well because that was empty. She has free access to food and the bowl is quite big so I usually just have to refill it once it's nearly empty, which usually takes her 2 to 3 days. But what little effort I put into my dogs wellbeing, I somehow get back tenfold.

I noticed as time goes on that my English Setter/Cocker spaniel mix Howie is starting to use some of these things with my father, who was his previous guardian. It’s subtle, but it’s there. Considering the disgusting narcissist abuses him when he’s home I’m truly not surprised. In fact the only concerning thing I’ve seen in this video that Howie does with me is ignore my commands when he goes walkies, but as the video said dogs don’t always listen if there’s no threat. When we’re out in public or the weather is unpleasant he obeys.
It’s still nice to know Howie prefers me though, despite it not being an expected outcome. I love my boy unconditionally. I make sure he eats even if I don’t. I put him first. I have to; if I don’t, who will? But it’s nice to know it’s appreciated.

Sometimes it just depends on dog’s mental state and mental health as well as their individual personality. I bought a puppy -The Russian Toy terrier, she seemed timid and always scared. She was hiding in the corner and would shake as I approached her or tried to pet her, this was from first days since I brought her home. This behavior kept happening. At first I thought she just doesn’t like me. Although my other dog adores me and he’s friendly and loving with her as well. Then I did some research online “what to do if your dog doesn’t trust you”? I found out that you can create a situation when you show your dog that you can protect him. I just started showing her that I can shield her from any trouble. If the other dog would bother her, I would block the access to her with my hands, whenever she felt scared I would pick her up and show her that she was safe with me. I tried to give her special treatment but without smothering either. It worked! Now we’re best friends and she never ever leaves my side! She follows me around the house and sleeps on my bed next to me tightly pressing her back towards me! I adore this dog! So happy she’s in my life! True love can heal all!💖 just love your dogs!

One thing i noticed is how people are convinced dogs can have no mean bone in their body.
We love portraying human emotions onto dogs, unless it is negative. Humans can be jerks, cats can be jerks, swans can be jerks, the list goes on. That means, dogs can be jerks as well. And that doesnt mean 'oh the dog is evil'.
Sometimes, a dog being a jerk is just them doing something deliberatly to frustrate you.

I think it depends on the breed. Some breeds were bred with a specific purpose, and those dogs have their own rules. I have a border collie who is intelligent enough to do what needs to be done because I raise goats, and he is their guard from predators. He loves to 'lick noses' (instead of kisses on the mouth) and will sleep in my room if he has had a busy few days with the goats. He isn't my pet; he is my co- worker!

Barely has any fur left and is struggling a lot (he has medication and is better than he used to be but we are keeping a close eye on him) and we have learnt that touching him or him wagging his tail hurts him... so how he shows his love - he goings to the spaced out dog bed I've made for him next to my bed and lays there, only leaving when I do.

#5: I had a dog that actively loved playing "keepaway" with her toys. She thought it was a great game making you work to get the toy from her. Usually once you got and started tossing it or playing tug of war keepaway was over and she do normal dog play. I know she thought it was good fun because she would wag her tail like crazy and bring it back in range for you to try again and again. I miss that dog.

  • @mydogsbutler
    @mydogsbutler Před 8 měsíci

I can't speak for every circumstance but there are instances were what may appear to be dislike or even aggression is really just a dog unhappy about something currently going on rather than dislike of a dog owner per se. My dog barks and growls at me nearly every day but she still adores me. She rarely lets me out of her sight, loves to cuddle and play together. If I leave even for a few minutes when I come back she welcomes me like we haven't seen each other in years.
I'm pretty sure the reason she sometimes acts aggressively is I've spoiled her growing up rather than focus more on training. So when she doesn't get what she wants she has mini-tantrums. For instance if I try to leave the dog park and she's not ready to leave... grrrrr. Or if I've put her on leash (getting ready to go somewhere together) and I'm not getting ready fast enough she head butts my privates or nips at my toes as if to tell me hurry up (especially challenging if I'm on the can). And so on. When she get angry she can sound like a rabid dog ready to rip out my throat but she never bites. And when I give her a kiss on the head and scratch her ears she quickly settles down.
In other words, less than friendly behavior towards an owner can sometimes be mapped out to circumstance on the moment and lack of training manners rather lack of love. In the case of my own dog it's her way of letting me know she's s not happy about something. At first I was hurt by the behavior but once I figured out it was just her way of communicating her needs it's become just one more thing I love about her (she also whines when I don't play with her when she wants to play, yelps when she's scared, smiles when she's really happy, and assortment of other very human-like emotional expressions). I thought about training the aggressive behavior away but I actual like that she can express things she doesn't like in a harmless way. I don't want our relationship to be about my dominance but sharing so sometimes I even give in.
