    Dogs and cats can both benefit from eating pet grass (wheatgrass) it is great for their breath and helps with digestion. Besides being loaded with vitamins and minerals.
    My dog loves digging her nose into the tray. It must feel good to her. In the large tray of pet grass I used 75% peat and 25% vermiculite as the growing medium and the grass really grew well on it and it does not make a mess when your pet digs into it. If you are looking for quality seed starting trays I would highly recommend these amzn.to/3IwRpiL I use them in the video.

    Great video! I am a volunteer dog walker at a dog rescue place and I noticed 1/2 of the dogs I walk in a park next to the shelter, will eat green material. I want to grow some wheat grass because I know it won't have pesticides on it. We have a bulk food store in town that probably has hard red winter wheat. I'll try growing it. Thanks again.

    so, i also bought a small ready-to-grow pack: my question is: if plant this little block of germinated grass in the soil in my garden, will it spread outward?

    • @DaveSherva
      @DaveSherva  Před 4 měsíci

      It wont spread unless you let the wheat go to seed. It would eventually die out. It will get real tall though.

      It works great for that. I'd use a cookie sheet to plant the wheat grass in. You will end up with a grass rug.

    I really appreciate it and I’m great full to watched your helpful tutorial . I have a question, I’m looking for a kind of grass seed that they don’t need to cut because they don’t get too long and for my dogs and obviously I this kind of grass is perfect, and my patio has not enough sun is there any grass seed that can survive in shade and sun both . I’ll would be appreciate it if you tell me about that

    don't know if you still reply, have an old dog, wanted to do this for indoors but would like to have 2-3 2ft long seeding trays and to plant them on top soil, just wondering if you have any info on anymore seeds or containers suitable, as for the seeds you listed is out of stock right now

      You can purchase Winter wheat or barley at a feed store for cheap. Use cookie sheets to plant on. Soak the grains for a day or two until they start to sprout then spread on cookie sheet. No soil needed. Just keep it moist. Might want to look up growing fooder for livestock.

    Hi! I came across your video, just to make sure after it sprouts do you just add the same mixture of soil on top? And how often do you water it?

    • @DaveSherva
      @DaveSherva  Před rokem +2

      I wont add soil to the paper towel in this method. The wheat grass will actually grow into the paper towel and create a mat of roots in the paper towel. It's critical that the paper towel stays moist. You really have to watch it daily and the grass will look limp when it needs water. I bottom feed daily and when the grass gets big they really soak up a lot of water. If this is your first time I'd start with 3/4 inch of potting mix. It's more forgiving and won't dry out as easy. You can use grass seed for your yard to practice, its cheap seed and grows fast. It takes some experimenting but its a lot of fun. I grow sunflower seeds for the chickens the same way.

    Thanks for the video as my Poodle pup loves to eat only certain types of grass. I am going to grow the wheat grass for him to enjoy. What other types of grass can you grow for a dog? I have heard Rye is ok for dogs. Your thoughts please.

      @DaveSherva  Před 2 lety +1

      My dogs love the wheat grass so much it's about all I grow. I do grow regular grass seed I get at Home Depot the same way and I believe that is rye grass. Grows real fast and it's a cheap alternate. I have chickens too and they love both. Thank you for watching and commenting. Enjoy growing the wheat grass.

    Where do I get the trays with holes?

    • @DaveSherva
      @DaveSherva  Před 4 lety +1

      Here is a link to the exact trays amzn.to/3lduIo0 they are very sturdy. Home Depot or Menards should also have trays with holes in them.

      Dave Sherva what’s the spraying bottle called?
      Also how did the other tray with napkin is doing? Is it growing ? Or is it better with the mix like in larger tray?

    • @DaveSherva
      @DaveSherva  Před 4 lety +1

      @@aprilgdl1 The pump spray bottles are available at any garden center but I will put in a link. The napkins work but the issue is the dry out so quick as the plants grow. So if you forget about them for a day the napkin can dry up and half your plants die. I prefer the potting soil. Less work. amzn.to/3gl4wEl
