Roy that is one of my favorites of all time and I to as a kid built it and I have about three of them in my stash and one of them is the OG from the sixties and is molded in a slightly darker shade of blue

Wouldn't it be great if Revell did a tribute release with full color photos of Fred Stone and Leonard Woods on those boxes. Two men who really made their mark in racing and yet so many no nothing about them. They might have suggested that Revell only used Cook's picture, given the attitudes of the day, but it's only right to acknowledge two black pioneers in American racing.
I agree, more information and more about all the people is important. Hopefully one day that will happen

What year did that release come out
I have one I got few years ago and it's molded in white.
The transmission is a hydromatic, first commercially use 4 speedway automatic transmission gm designed it for Oldsmobile and Cadillac, but they use them in Kaiser's Hudson mash and Lincoln's some foreign cars rolls Royce, WW2 tanks, they made 2 versions of it 1939 to 1956
This is the transmission that made B&M famous, they converted it to a race transmission B&M hydro stick, I think they had a clutch like a manual transmission did
On the instruction it's an '89 release. The kit was first released in '82, thanks for all the info about the transmission.
This 1982 re-release was done at a time when Revell merged with Monogram. Thus some legal need for copyright update. Monogram had just bought themselves out from under Mattel Toys ownership. I was working at Mattel in Manufacturing Engineering in 1982. I drove past Revell's headquarters on my commute to and from work at Mattel. A former coworker from a different plastics company was working in Engineering at Revell. My older brother built one of these kits when it was 1st released in the 60s. I built another in the late 60s. Still have that in my display case. Painted candy apple red and candy blue, not as the SWC car.
The transmission was indeed a GM TurboHydramatic. 4 speed auto. B&M made themselves famous modifying these for racing. Quite a rugged trans.
