KINGS & QUEENS OF CORBET'S 2022: TOP 5 MEN'S RUNS

- The men's field came out swinging and yet again blew all expectations of what was possible in Corbet's Couloir. Take a look at what runs took the top spots from Kings & Queens of Corbet's 2022.
1st Place: Hans Mindnich
2nd Place: Yuki Kadono
3rd Place: Parkin Costain
4th Place: Ryan Wachendorfer
5th Place: Blaine Gallivan - Sport
Way too much emphasis on the last kicker. The whole point of kings and queens of Corbet's (for me at least) is the creativity and style of the drop-in.
Agreed. You can throw down something off a jump like that anywhere, you can only drop into corbets at corbets.
I think they just had to do something different this year since conditions weren't great at the top.
@@kingschuyler3890 yeah the drop looked kinda meh this year
@@greif1779 yeah :/ not the rider's fault, Jackson just didn't get a whole lot of snow this Febuary. I'm sure they wanted to send harder, just had to be cognizant of the somewhat icy conditions. Hopefully they'll be more snow next year and they'll take away the emphasis on those lower jumps
Agree, very different year and all about that bottom kicker. Looked pretty messy up the top but still no send at all up there
Parkin Costain's back to back backies was rad. Park jumps are over rated for a comp in Corbet's
True, should be an expression of freeride, not a cliff into park
4th place got robbed of his 3rd place
Agreed Parkin's was my favorite run
I see so much emphasis on the big finale, but IMO the drop and the quality of the jumps taken before the runout are what should crown the royalty. That said, I thought Jake's first was a standout.
Agree 100%
What’s the runout
I think they should have a special award for the best drop separate from the podium. Call it Best in Show for the most unique send off the top
@@jxckhxncho7121 everything after the first drop into the actual Corbets Couloir would be the runout
@@terdfergeson23 oh ok swear the couloir makes The Whole event
YUKI's run was absolutely bonkers
Yeah how did he not win? :O
@@bradbozz6807 I think he actually washed out in the main couloir. this edit kinda clips it. right before his method, which was also dope!
That entry bro... so sick
Agreed, kind of a bust this year, just a comp on the last jump really, no crazy drop-ins at all. None of these were even top five in any of the previous competitions.
Thank you for just keeping it real and not putting any music to the video. Makes it so much more pure.
Kind of disappointed with how impactful the jumps after the drop are on the actual scoring.
last jump makes it seem like a regular competition. Corbet's should always be about the drop-in
Sure, Hans stuck his last jump flawlessly - but Yuki was rock solid and had total poise throughout his descent. He clearly won in my vote...
Bummer. Was the purest contest out there, until the park kids and sponsors turned it into just another big air event. Bring back the huckers!
Looks, and sounds, suuuper icy. No wonder it was a less impressive display this year. Shitty conditions all around.
just coming back to watch these runs again 😎
yuki is just so good.
Yuki’s style is next level
Zeb P is sick too
I just watched the top 5 from last year before this.
Really, really interesting to see the change in approach in different conditions. I see a lot of people commenting on how the runs were less bold into the couloir itself this year... ask yourself why. Listen to the landings this year... thats borderline dust on crust in the upper bowl. They couldn't just yeet themselves off the cliff in that lol.
That only serves to make these runs more impressive tbh... if a little less dramatic.
Oooo ya! Conditions were marginal all year. We were there a month earlier and they still hadn't gotten any snow a month later for this Red Bull bit
They really toned down the drop this year and I have no idea why. Conditions were harsh, I get that, but still sad to see how little air they all got off the drop in.
Conditions were WAAAAY worse than harsh. We had like 30 days of no snow. The fact that they even dropped in is insane to me.
because it was hard crust under just a couple inches of pow
@@michaelshell6188 aha ok well that makes sense then. The chat was brutal live lol
Yeah even the skiers weren’t taking the drop.. the fact yuki Miller flipped the main drop is honestly insane
Yea I was there a week before the competition and it was bare with lots of rocks sticking out on the run. People were skeptical if it was even going to happen
Feels like they didn't send the drop in as hard this year
The drops were humdrum this year… Costain took it hitting the three others with big air!
people were taking it easy into the coilour because theres no snow this year. thats why they had the big kickers set up at the bottom, it was too dangerous to be hucking a backy into corbets
I feel like Yuki got robbed…
If he didn’t fall I think he woulda won
Yeah but hans also deserved it… put it down a little cleaner.
It's true that his drop was a little cleaner and that should be the main thing of the competition but still the riders all voted together to choose hans so i respect that
Yuki Kadono 🥇🤯
No disrespect to anyone but Parkin took that all day.
Insane!
i really hate the "progression" of this event. Started so cool and unique, and now 4 of the top 5 runs did almost nothing on the entry to corbets, which should absolutely be the focus.
Robbery. Han’s drop in wasn’t even clean.
He took the second jump, that’s it.
Yuki should have won
Watch the top 5 of 2021, Hans got completely robbed there so they might’ve been a little biased towards him winning this year
YUKI What a damn beast
Is it just me or was it way better last year? Probably due to the coverage conditions but still
There was a time when Freeriding was all about riding the mountain as you find it! Good ole Red Bull putting their particular brand of sporting competition through its paces!
You have to give the folks at this resort Kudos for coming up with this run and exploiting the potential, brilliant, especially for an industry that has declined in the past two decades.
according to data provided by the national ski areas association there were 59 million visits last year and 57 million in 2001.
@@Gary-np7hl That may be true, but what also is true, is the fact that some generations ski more than others in any given season. Boomers take extended stays and will ski 2 - times more often than any other generation. Younger generations are not likely to do the same, which is a shame.
Looks so awesome! Has Jackson Hole had a rough year with the snow?
I was there a few weeks ago and they had 124 inches for the year. Apparently that’s below average for them.
We had 30 days with no snow. January was absolutely terrible.
@@michaelshell6188 that's weird. it was snowing nonstop the whole week I was there from january 2-8.
@@spencerimre yeah that was the end of the snow for January😂
@@danielboyle1237 its way more than that. we usually get 500-600 a year.
Gotta chill with slow mo. Many of these feats are far more impressive in real time.
Really rough conditions this year but they did amazing regardless
Haven’t skied in decades. So excuse me here. But is this like Red Bull Rampage but on snow?
The first two KINGS Queens was the best years. People was doing crazy jumps off Corbets. Don't get me wrong i give it to anyone going off the jump. Glad they all landed safe and had the time of their lives doing it.
Whats the craic... looks tame in comparison to years of late. Were the conditions not favourable? Bit hard packed?
Parkin went in hard, with style, then double backies, cmon!! First place!
Where is Jake hopfinger in this? His run was so sick
Please put the emphasis back on the drop in. Corbet's Couloir should just be a standard run comp.
Parkins switch entry was mental,
so happy Hans finally won after finishing 2nd twice
Yuki dude. It's not even a contest
@@sammoss7558 yeah but im talking about the fact that this was his first win after finishing twice with one of them being an insane 360 wall ride
Please tell me the final jump isn’t part of the scoring. If it is - then this just sold out - and it’s just another jump competition. Too bad. Used to be so cool.
Yuki was my favorite
I weirdly enjoyed the way they did the audio in this.
Kadono sent that one big time.
So snowboarders get some sort of a handicap? That's the only reason I can explain why any of them places higher than the skiers I saw in this video
I was thinking the same thing. Costain took it
Both the top snowboarders did corked 1080s and none of the skiers did more than a 720, but ok.
@@gcodin11 as impressive as that is I'll kind of refer to some of the other comments on the video. Is the bottom jump weighted that much in the scoring? And should it be? It's a competition about how you can approach a natural feature, not a park competition. Yuki's entrance was epic, yes. Costain did a backflip off a natural feature off fall-line in the middle of the run. The two skier's entrances and runs were better for me. I don't think the last hit should even be considered
@@gcodin11 and really, why are they judging skier's and snowboarders together? Kind of odd to me, but whatever
You don't think the last jump should even be considered? Lol. Well I guess if you ignore that part of the run, I can understand why you are so confused.
I love how slop these runs have to be just to survive the gnar
i feel like the run should be scored 60% corbets entry, 20% run down, 20% booter. The entry drops were pretty meh this year compared to previous years, even accounting for the hectic wind
That's a good way of breaking down the scores! I believe they mentioned riders could shape and build their own take offs in past years, but had to make do with what was built for them this year, which was a lot more mellow. Probably why we didn't see people going as big 🙁
@@mikerenz6029 or they didnt have any snow for over a month so it was super icy
@@mikerenz6029 Not true at all. The athletes build the central entrance lower than it had been the morning of the competition. Their decision to make it more tame and it was understandable. You didn't see them going as big because it hadn't snowed in a month and conditions were bulletproof and brutal. With what they were dealt, they still absolutely went off.
@@justindersham and it hadn't snowed the month before that, either. IDK, Targhee hogging all the snow on the front side?! lol
what happened with that drop in? it sucks, maybe conditions
Here to point out that 1) the drop in should judged higher than the park trick at the bottom and 2) Hans should have won last year with his wall ride. Not sure if these points have been discussed in every single previous comment or not 🙄
Well done to the riders...the conditions looked horrible, especially at the top
😨🤤👍Hammer 👏👏👏
I’ve been watching random videos of people dropping in for months without knowing what I was about.
How come they weren't going big this year off the top? The other years they were doing double back flips.... this year it's little tiny 180s into the drop...
Way rougher conditions, usually there's a ton of powder to soften their landing
Okay I thought it may be due to no pow.. makes sense but dang can we get at least one backflip!
i was there
Seems nicely filled in this year. Some videos it's like a straight vertical drop where you have to stomp a landing.
Why was everyone’s entrance so tame this year?
conditions sucked
30 days without snow. Rock hard conditions with like 4 inches of fresh on top. Pretty terrible.
You can tell because throughout the run everyone is barely able to stop from falling over (many ate it just riding down). Very icy,
Yes and there were lots of exposed rocks. I’m sure they briefed everyone and said to not hurt yourself so they can keep having this competition. Honestly they should’ve postponed it due to lack of snow. They are getting hit now thankfully
You try hucking 30 feet to crust, see how it goes
What the heck? No one is sending the main drop and there are park jumps at the bottom? It’s like they forgot what the competition was supposed to be about
4:45 i thought there was a bug on my screen for a second
Does anyone else feel like this is just watching people hit the last kicker? It’s not about corbets… glad we all watched the first one when we did, it’s clearly dead now
Why even run it with no snow ?! Such a letdown from previous years
Why cancel it when you can rip it? Leave it to gapers to only be impressed by going big and nothing else.
@@mymomsbasement69 going big is the whole point of the event. Not hitting booters in the middle of the run.
@@jasonstrongman1089 LOL. I'm going to defer to the legit judges and not some rando gaper on youtube.
I gotta agree with Jason.
@Jaded Gear Reviews agree with Jason as well. None of these would have podiumed in past events. After last year's 1st place debacle and now this. Kind of lame.
Yuki deserves first
Yuki fucking sent it. I think he should have won.
The last year was so much better
I thought the whole point of this comp was to wait till it’s snowed to have it. Seems like they’re landing on direct hard pack and afraid to go big as last year.
They had it closed for 3 weeks... it just didnt snow
@@TheGayfishsticks damn! hard winter smh props to them even sending like they did
These look like two runs for each rider cut&pasted together. well that said sth about how bad this year's condition was
Top women's runs, posted here since the algorithm apparently didn't think I'd want to watch it.
czcams.com/video/68D8gzhpVn0/video.html
There wasn’t enough snow, so that’s why they weren’t sending the drop
less kicker more drop in.
how many people complaining about the drop in have actually skied Corbett’s in conditions like these?
I have but I'm also not on a redbull sponsored competition so at least try to go big
Not enough weight in the marking to trick at the top
Veronica Paulsen's backflip would top all of these
Yuki should have won the other guy did a slow 360 to enter and Yuki sent a fast hand drag in bad lighting
And the other guy did a boot grab on the last jump
Fix the drop in and 2023 will be better
Can some body explain me why the past years they totally jump and fly over the hole and now they make a small jump like a frog?
3rd place was imo the best by far over the two snowboarders. After his run I thought..."Wow, 2nd and 3rd place must have really done something amazing"....how disappointing, how political.
This comp shouldn't be run unless its deep imho.... Not to take anything away from these athletes or the difficulty of throwing tricks in shit snow in Corbetts, but this year just felt like park laps to me.
Yuki was 1
Hans got robbed last year. Yuki got robbed this year.
Thisisi what happens when I don't show up
Bahaha! That cracked me up! Thanks!!!
Yuki should’ve won who cares about the last kicker honestly
Hans was robbed last year, is this why he won now?
He also put down the best run… only person close was yuki and it probably could have gone either way but Hans had a lot cleaner run with more control
Bummer about the conditions this year, but these athletes are freaks and just send it anyway
Hans gets second last year for a wallride and 1st this year for a Tindy grab... sus
Shame the competition was so much lamer than usual because of the conditions
Yuki got robbed
We hate vail resorts
what does that have to do with JH?
@@drvonnostrum2671 Its just that there not vail so they better
The snowboarders looked weak on the open face. Jackson demands longer boards not park boards.
Yuki got robbed.
Parkin first with that backflip straight into the next backflip. The air at the bottom is out of place. Red bull sure knows how to bastardize.
Lt 🤢🤮🤟
1:25 dude almost died
Wow who else thinks Yuki got robbed?
Way to much emphasis on the floppers
Yuki won that….
Get rid of the park jumps
Why tf did they put park jumps in this. That ruins the entire premise of this competition. Red bull fucking sucks
Why have the "Start" 50 yards back only to have everyone come to a stop a skid in?? So lame this year.
Think you don’t ski much
2022 was pretty disappointing.
yuki was robbed he deserved that no 1 spot
Disappointing.
(As I sit on my couch because it’s too cold to ski today.)
Is it just me or does that snow look like shit?
The dude that won should’ve got 2nd weak ass run.
