To go from praying for a son’s life, to praying that he only commits suicide and not hurt others, is unimaginable as a Parent. What burden of guilt these parents have to carry for the rest of their lives. Prayers up for them and the families of the victims. May God bring healing to America!

Exceptional like Jeffrey dharma mamma and pop. Or exceptional like the mother who 6 year old shot the teacher, which one? They are sorry, but not exceptional. They raised another mass murderer and behaving like babies when this occurs for a certain picture in media will not change who is next. Other people should start being honest, news and media complain about a certain monster, when many are lurking right around Your Own backyard.
*****Mass shootings in the U.S. by shooter’s by race/ethnicity as of April 2023
Published by Statista Research Department, Jun 2, 2023
Between 1982 and April 2023, 74 out of the 142 mass shootings in the United States were carried out by WHITE shooters. By comparison, the perpetrator was African American in 25 mass shootings, and Latino in 11. When calculated as percentages, this amounts to 52 percent, 17 percent, and seven percent respectively.

My heart goes out to them, but they seem like nice people and did an exceptional *interview*.
All these comments "they're exceptional parents"... did we watch the same interview? They said they weren't. There's something exceptional about acknowledging that... but even if they were exceptional parents you can't tell that from one heartbreaking interview.
They raised a son who killed 5 people (and placed one cop in critical condition, probably who will never be the same after being shot in the head) and people want to overpraise the killer's parents? That's what comes to people's minds? There's something a little icky about that, to be honest.

The grief of trying to put the pieces back together & trying to move on. It broke my heart, especially when the father said they failed as parents. No, sir. You both did not. Sometimes, as a family of people dealing with mental illness or addiction, it's hard to ALWAYS be exceptionally perfect or always there. We can only do so much. You got the last part wrong.
Their son wanted to be helped. He called his mother for that help. He had a panic attack & took time off of work. He saw his doctor's because his mother got his appointment moved up. He did what he was suppose to do. He reached out in his time of crisis. His parents did what needed to be done to help their son. This is not a situation of you cannot help someone that does not want to be helped.

I was close to what happened in Littleton Colorado over two decades ago. As a kid, I played baseball for 3 years with a school shooter.
These parents did something most previous could not. It's easier to go into hiding and look for excuses around what your child just did. Give them credit for this interview.
Now, to all the parents out there, most of you are doing amazing things for your kids. You'll never guess to see this unfold with yours, just like these parents. My only advice, again, having lived in this world for 20+ years of tragedy since it happened in our community - please, be very aware, if someone you love is in a bad state of mind, you need to sacrifice every part of yourself necessary to ensure your loved one does not carry out the harm on themselves and/or others that has become all too common in our society.
"Well meaning people keep saying to us... you did what any reasonable parents would have done...in his darkest hour, he needed us to be exceptional, not reasonable...we were not exceptional" It's well said, and unfortunate for these people. Their grief has only begun, take it from me.

That was a masterful interview. It was impacting , compassionate and informative.
To see the parents try to make something good...a change...come out of this was both heartwrenching and astounding. They may have prevented some other families from going through this catastrophe.
God bless all those involved to an eventual healing.
The interviewer deserves credit for a difficult job well done.
