Sony WH-1000XM5 Review and Noise Cancellation Test on a Plane!

A review of the Sony WH-1000XM5 where I was able to test the active noise cancellation (ANC) on an airplane during a flight. I also tested it against the Bose Quiet Comfort 35 against the Sony’s to see the difference in noise cancellation abilities. The Sony’s were also tested in a noisy and windy street food market to see how they coped, as well as a quick mic test.
I also share my thoughts on how they sound, the build quality, how portable and travel friendly they are (or not) and finally my overall thoughts on whether it’s worth the money.

Thanks for the video! Just curious, did you use a two prong airplane adaptor? There are planes that still use the three prong ones (business class)

Hey, thanks for checking out the video. I was on a short haul flight when I did the test. So no inflight entertainment and no headphone prongs. But, on another flight, I've plugged the single headphone jack into one of the two prong jacks of the plane (no adapter) and it works fine.

How would you say about the temperature of the earcups after extended use ?

Hey! No probs. It does get a little warm inside after a couple of hours. But that's more the body heat and the closed cup situation of the headphones. On hot days, the temps get much hotter quicker for obvious reasons.

XM4s' are just on £200 from Sony Amazon, that is a massive difference for such minor changes that the XM5s' give.

Were you able to hear the alert sound when the pilot was speaking?

It depends what you're currently listening to. If you are listening to music or watching a video, you may not hear it. But if you just have ANC on and nothing else, you will be might be able to hear a muffled pilot speaking.

Since I discovered isolating/closed Earphone aka Stage Monitors, I completely forgot about noise cancelling headphones/Earphones.
In combination with foam eartips (that you need anyway for closer IEM), you have an isolation on earplug level with higher sound quality at the same time.

Think bro needs to go to an ear doctor because I used to have the 35s in 2017, now I'm on the XM4s and they are significantly better, and the XM5 is supposed to be better still

I use glasses and for me the xm4s have much better anc, the adaptive anc on the xm5s ruin the experience for me
