Mark, great video and very insightful. I’ve seen the AirPods max reduce in price since release here in the UK, with most colours now selling for around £400 ($420) on Amazon. With the price gap being so small, would you still recommend XM5?
Still on the fence weather I want to pull the trigger on Airpod Max or not. Even though in my country they offer 4 times installment payment, i still thinking of buying it.
Bought these about a week ago. Switched from Bose 45’s to these. Noise cancellation is super great, and clarity I thought was very crisp. The only thing I ran into was talking on the phone using these and there was a small distant echo of me repeating myself. Not sure what’s happening there. Good video, just wish you would of gone over the function’s of these headsets.
@josueflores330 I had a better experience with the Bose QC 45's over the Sony 1000xm5. The anc is equally as strong on both of them except the Sony's have way more Cabin pressure. The Bose sounds better to me, but you may like the sound of the Sony's more. They both sound really good but the Bose have better instrument separation and are far more comfortable than the Sony's. You'll have to try both of them and find out which one fits you best. I wouldn't trust reviews because they are all based on opinion. I also have tried out the momentum 4's and they are great too and have almost as strong of ANC as the Sony 1000xm5 but are less comfortable.
Thank you for this review! I recently just received the airpod max as a gift but they are sooo heavy! The are beautiful but are extremely heavy and give me a headache. I debating for a few days or if I should exchanged them for the Sony ones.

the AirPods max isn't as heavy as it looks, I've tried it and genuinely feels comfortable, yes on the heavy side but not to a degree that its uncomfortable or really noticeable upon first wear. Obviously I don't know what it will be like for long period of use - maybe weight will be a factor here compared to the XM5. I just bought the XM5 today and I can say its very comfortable to wear over long periods of use, lightweight. I had XM3 previously so its an upgrade for sure and I don't feel much clamping force which is great as i wear glasses and my ears don't heat up or sweat which is great (i found that the AirPods max caused my ear to heat up over use). (only thing I don't like is that when i move my head or make facial expressions, the glasses which rubs against the headphone rubber ear cup makes this leather noise which is annoying but let's see how it goes, will update this review - best way to explain - imagine sitting on a leather sofer and it makes this leather noise once you sit or get up) my glasses frame is metal. maybe this will go away over time lets see. if your not in a rush to buy these I would definitely wait for the prices to go down, currently its £380 which I'm not so sure about :/ ***UPDATE, Tues 31/05/22*** I've returned my XM5s - don't let this review put you off they are great headphones but I personally could not justify the price at £380. I've bought the grey XM4s which was on sale for £252 on Amazon instead, and i think XM4s looks better, feels more premium, just as lightweight, and to be honest the sound quality sounds pretty much the same to me. ***UPDATE, Sun 05/06/22*** All going well with the XM4s beast of a headphone and noise cancellation is amazing. I can confirm though, I've compared my friends XM5 and my XM4 - the biggest difference I've found was on making calls/video calls, the XM5 wins here, much clearer than the XM4s (probably due to additional mics). Protability and travelling I prefer the XM4s, smaller case, and headphone breaks down to smaller form factor which makes it easier to save space in bag and carry.

I have xm3 and xm5 and xm5 are not more comfortable than xm3 in my opinion. Xm4 are almost identical to xm3 i guess so would be same. In xm3 I can't sit more than 3-4 hours and with xm5 the same.
Does ambient sound automatically turn on during phone calls? I have the xm3, and am unable to turn off ambient sound during calls, which is I don't like.

@@ooooo5361 now that I’ve got the headphones, tbh it won’t matter when you are blasting music through it. It does sometimes take some time to get the maximum quietness but it is not annoying to me when it is automatically adjusting

I can’t get the noise cancelling on the XM5s to perform well at all. They’re doing worse than the XM4, even after contacting Sony for a replacement. They sound great, though, and the build quality is much better than the XM4… But something is off.
Really? Maybe try updating the software. I just got a software update yesterday and noise cancellation seems to sound better. You may also want to turn off the automatic ANC/Ambient switching.
@@HeyMarkL When I installed the new software yesterday, it did seem to be a bit better, but not much. I never had adaptive sound control on to begin with, though, so it isn’t that feature. A significant number of people are having the same problem, unfortunately. It’s hard to say why at this point, but I suspect it has something to do with the automatic optimizer feature…

@@ooooo5361 It’s so poorly done that there’s a threshold of volume where it suddenly boosts the ANC and the volume drops significantly from where it was, meaning that the ANC is least effective in moderate volume situations - which is most of my listening time. I really hope they don’t ruin the WF-1000XM5 with a similar flaw, or I’ll have to switch brands, which would suck because I really enjoy Sony’s headphones overall.

The Bose QC 45 sound better than both the Sony 1000xm5 and Sony 1000xm4 in my opinion. I bought both of the Sony's and was disappointed with them. The bose have a wider soundstage and the anc was just as strong as the Sony's while having quite a bit less cabin pressure. The bose were also more comfortable so I no longer trust any of these reviewers. I would try out headphones yourself instead of trusting reviews.
I always find that interesting when someone says "all Apple products are made of nice materials" because as a non Apple user when I first held a friend's Airpods all I could think was how cheap and plasticy they look and feel 🤷🤷🤷
Just normal AirPods? Yeah they are made of plastic lol. AirPods Max? Stainless steel. Also, AirPods earbuds are made for the masses. The Max was made for people in a certain category that are willing to pay 500+ for a pair of headphones vs like 150? Or 180 for the earbuds

I agree. I received my xm5s yesterday and wasn't blown away by the sound or anything else. I guess i had some sort of high expectations that the headphones didn't live up to. When I last year picked up the xm4s i was really impressed but not this time. I don't have both headphones so i can't compare sound so this is just my subjective experience vs expectations. I guess the wiser choice is to go for the xm4s since you can pick them up for a much lower price tag.

They are not better then the APM, at all. The Sony have a different sound signature, and for every other music genre that is not bass heavy, the AirPods Max are still the best if you have an iPhone.

You can have it turn on when you’re talking. But can turn that feature off in the app.

It doesn't ruin the headphones. It's a relatively good feature, but it will take a while to get used to your routine. Earcups aren't too shallow, no.

These tend to go on sale during the holidays so maybe hold off if you don’t have the funds but these are definitely worth it

They’re comfy and have tried wearing them a couple times and it was fine but these are not sweat resistant so just be cautious.

They are not better then the APM, at all. The Sony have a different sound signature, and for every other music genre that is not bass heavy, the AirPods Max are still the best if you have an iPhone.
