Stroud is great. but in my opinion, he had a lightning in a bottle year that’s gonna be hard to replicate. He set his OWN bar high so expectations is now AFC Divisional every year. His team is great, but you also gotta look at the other teams that are spending just as much money as the Texans and are in the AFC. Trevor had a down year because he was playing injured for 5-6 games, Joe Burrow was injured mid season so the Bengals relegated to Jake Browning. the Chargers and Jim Harbaugh are drafting OL and DL and LBs to help Justin Herbert. There is definitely no guarantee CJ will play as well this year. Dak Prescott had an incredibly similar rookie season (kinda absurdly similar). At the end of the season all the talking heads were calling him elite and the next great NFL QB and thought he’d be in the MVP runnings in 2017. In reality his play and the team declined, the defense was garbage and his receiving core was pretty bad. Teams also had film on him and were able to find his weaknesses.
That being said the Texans look like they are doing everything in their power to make sure the same thing does not happen with CJ, and I think he will be very good. Just don’t be surprised if he does not live up to the “MVP race” hype in a historically rough year 2 for QBs.
