Adam Young every other character had a very good sense of humor. Hushpuppy, Hashpuppy, or whatever the hell that drifter's name is and Danni are the most cringeworthy people here.
I don't know why he's emphasising on that piece of dialog. That scene's supposed to portray how one of the main characters is freaking miserable because he has to make a living driving vloggers around. So that character is cringy and stupid by design.
No steering wheel for a racing game? Clearly shows that this game was made for controllers and the developers are fucking clueless.

The saddest thing is that Need for Speed started as the open road racing game with aiming to have THE most authentic physics experience for real life cars in a video game complete with care damage, when other games all used old-school arcade style racing. For the time, they did an astounding job. It has since devolved into just another racing series like any other. Truly sad.
mdavies97131 Yes!!! This. I have always been puzzled by this disastrous shift. I have played most NFS games and the last one I genuinely enjoyed was Most Wanted 2005. I moderately enjoyed The Run and despised the rest (Carbon, Prostreet, Shift 2 Unleashed, Most Wanted 2012, NFS 2015,).
The expectation was Payback would be the Run 2, but this game is absolutely derivative, boring, and ultimately a chore to play.

@@jakobholgersson4400 If it's in GTA then it's done for obvious caricature reasons. The entire world-building of GTA is in a perpetual state of satire and exaggeration and done in a comedic fashion. GTA doesn't take itself seriously, never has.

@@jakobholgersson4400 No it doesn't. GTA for decades has thoroughly established itself as a franchise that does satirical social commentary and exaggerated stories. The jokes often lead and feed into the story and world building itself. NFS has never ever been about that, it has always been about fantasy street racing culture that does in-fact take itself seriously. But in the past games like Most Wanted 2005 it worked because the story was self sustaining and engagingly written. This game is made by people who are out of touch from the youth and think throwing a flurry of cringe buzzwords will make them relatable. Clearly didn't work because it's obvious and annoying.

Yeah im a 90s racing gamer as well, TD and NFS all that. Nowadays Driveclub is my mistress. Its gameplay and presentationdoes EVERYTHING i always imagined a racer doing. Including retaining menus over a dull open world.
The first GTA was more creative than this.

Well, good news is this may just be the fuckup EA's been waiting for to shut Ghost down.
Seriously, those guys have no idea what they're doing. Sure, NFS hasn't been the same since Black Box turned it into Fast & Furious The Game, but at least it was still good, in it's own way. whereas Ghost have no idea what the hell they're doing. They can't make good NFS games, they can't even make good racing games, and they've been given more chances than Criterion (whom actually came close to reviving the series) ever got.
Test Drive Unlimited 2 is shite though. It has the same problem as Payback really, it focuses too much on gimmicks (like gambling) and not enough on cars and racing. Test Drive Unlimited 1 was awesome though, probably the closest thing to a real NFS game post-2000.
Cut-scenes and grinding are just a way for game developers to artificially extend the length of time to finish a game and create the illusion there is more game than there actually is.
Sea Pig at least Ubisoft's games have open world's with stuff to do when you complete the story mode.
With arcade racers, the Dreamcast lineup and Flatout 2 (pc) are still my favorites. I remember how impressive Need for Speed for 3DO was back then and if 3DOs weren't so expensive, I would have gotten one for Xmas. Ended up with a Saturn the next Xmas with Daytona USA, which still blows away many of the new NFS games despite being a rough port.
So many good classic racing games for all sorts of preferences. CHAMPIONSHIP PRO am for the Genesis is still a favorite.
I'm fine with cutscenes in a racing game but not in the middle of the fucking race when I'm about to do some cool shit and they're like nope let me do that for you
The Crew Wild Run is better than this game and I got it for free...
I miss when Need for Speed was you know... actually good. Remember Need for Speed Most Wanted 2005? That game was so cheesy in all the right ways and the driving was so satisfying to boot.

Before I ever buy a game I always make sure that WAB has done a review because he is the upmost honest about the actual game. Looks Great, Sounds Great, Plays like shit. Its a walkthrough movie. LoL, I love watching his reviews and then not spending my money by mistake.

This is what game journalists not knowing how to beat the tutorial does to games.
There is no reward in watching a cutscene, you only get mental rewards for tasks you do. You don't get that pleasure when you do something difficult when you are just watching the game.

Looks like a simplistic "racing" game from the Atari era, only with better graphics and less skill required.
A really comedic review that made me laugh the entire way. It would bring me so much joy if you could review all the Need for Speed games and driving/racing games from other franchises.

I remember playing an old Driver game on the original Xbox...If you are chasing someone, throught tight alleys and traffic, and you hit a wall...you are done...You have to go back and do it again...It was fun and would take us an hour or 2 at times to do a mission...And we loved it..this is shit!
No the game has wheel sport but I tried it out on my PS4 and worked. Not to sure about pc?

ReechForTheBleech He already called it another Pwe pwe pwe shooter but I dont care if he bashes it, I liked the beta and the spawn locations and insane crap from Battlefront 1 was not present in BF2. I just kept coming back during the open Beta to play the Galactic Assault. I'm not too thrilled about the flying aerials space dogfighting.
The thing is we can finally have star wars rather then snow wars and forest wars )

TDU2 was rough around the edges, but it was a terrific driving game! Even the likes of Forza Horizon 3 and The Crew couldn't hold a candle to it. I loved the sheer size of the map, variety of cars available, and the casino mini-games! The attention to detail was one of my favourite aspects also. Each car had an interior view, working lights, windows etc. You even had a mileage counter! A seriously underrated gem in my opinion.
Edit: Just watching the original TDU2 environment trailer gives me goosebumps. You have to do a review, Mack!

I agree on most things you said here, but why do you even want to play an arcade game like this with a steering wheel? When you turn left, the car starts drifting by itself with the wheels turned right. Playing with a steering wheel would be counter intuitive if you ask me.
It still bothers me that almost all new arcade games have this kind of "turn to drift" physics... Why can't they just make the driving physics similar to NFS Underground 2, where you actually needed to drift for yourself if you wanted to? Well, I guess I already know the answer.. It's because drifting looks cool and they think kids these days don't have the skill to do it, so the game does it for you. Newsflash, kids aren't that incompetent. I could do it when I was a kid, and I'm sure there were many others too.

Yep, as you said, "if done right". These kind of driving physics make it impossible to be done right. There's nothing precise (or fun) in driving a car in this game. And don't assume I'm a console player :)
