There is something really funny to me about a game making you sit in a parking lot to punish you for not buying Microtransactions while sitting beside a fucking in game advertisement for Coke. The greed is unreal.
AtticusSP he forgot to mention you don't have to sit in a parking lot no one sits in a parking lot he forgot one of important part winning races earns you speed cards as well I got my mustang derelict to 300 without buying a single speed card and I completed the whole game without buying single micro transactions and I have 15 cars in my garage all above 300. You get 14k per race and then there's bets you can do which earns you extra money i have 1m in my bank the progression in this game is 100× better than battlefront

Mannequins Mazzara honestly i don't know what's stopping u, or any1 for that matter, i've been "done" with EA for years now and have reached an all time low in "purchased games per year" all thanks to them and the countless franchises they've ruined, they are dead and have been dead to me for quite a while now, if its flying the EA flag, i dont buy it, it sucks for the developers i know, but just look at what people's "tolerance" had gotten them to today, stop buying their games, support other developers (like indie devs), if u dont stop, neither will they. Lets just hope in afew years time other publishers step in their shoes early enough to not let other talented developers die out
You realized EA has carefully ensure that advertisement was set up, notice every billboard and most of them are real company billboard and not parodies.

another person who completely misunderstood that statement...there are people who have time to play the game...there are people who don't...the sense of accomplishment is a real thing but kids don't fucking understand that because every single game in the past 15 years has been either extremely easy or has everything unlocked for you already
the thing is...there absolutely no need to buy shit in game...which you would know if you actually played it instead of spouting shit you know nothing about online

I was going to wait till this game was like 10 - 15 dollars but now i dont think I'll even bother with this.
There is a glitch that allows you to copy cards on to other cars so once you upgrade on car fully, you are pretty much set. The glitch is easy to perform

It's called Need For Speed Payback for a reason, that's Payback from EA to you for not buying thier microtransaction loot boxes enough for thier games.
That time-lapse was perfect. Playing this game looks REALLY monotonous.
Microtransactions have no place in full priced games. U pay a premium for the game. Game development can cost a lot but i refuse to believe devs aren't able to make a hefty sum from regular game sales.
I don't agree with microtransactions/lootboxes at all either, especially in full priced games. But we have to remember that gaming is a business first to these people, which means they'll do whatever it takes to make money.
Brian Woo Im not denying that. But their excuse of how they are needed to make up for rising cost is pure nonsense. Games may cost most to make but they also sell more than ever. They sell them cause they are greedy, nothing more or less.
The fact that microtransactions are needed because development costs are not sustainable is a complete bullshit. These kind of practices don't belong to premium priced games.

Oh my God. I didn't know the Loot Cards in this game were THIS BAD! A roulette wheel? It also looks like 3 currencies in the upper right hand corner. I'm lost..... What happened to just getting parts. WOW! I'm actually blown away!
God why is it always cards? Cards only make sense in a card game, you don't slide a "level 5 generic engine" card into the engine to improve it, a soldier doesn't slide a card in his gun clip to do more damage, it's such a nonsensical system that not only reeks of greed, but is super lazy too. If you have to throw in a half baked, microtransaction driven progression system, at least be a little original with it . . . Anyways, great review, editing was really on point too!
The answer is simple, because this type of mechanic has the highest chance of not only forcing you to pay but also creating an addictive behavior so you continue to pay.
Progression systems that evolve around chances just......Just turns me off.

It's certainly not a developer problem you get bugs and glitches in every game. It's 100% a management problem, EA is so out of touch it's insulting.

Great review from Bloodworth. Shout out to Ian for editing that review, especially those time lapse sequences. It is a good idea to include those waiting times and of course those glitches. The score of 2/5 is just what I have expected. I wonder if EA is trying to destroy every single franchise that they owned.
I can assume that for their next E3 press conference, the first question journalists and gamers will be constantly asking them is if there are loot boxes for every game that they have announced.
Ouch, a 4? sounds utterly deserved, which is a shame, as I thought this looked like one of the cooler Need for Speed games in recent years.
Just give us Underground 3 already.
There is EA with their lootboxes and what not, but Ghost games has not delivered a decent racing game. They made latest three NFS titles and the quality has not improved.
People talked shit about Criterions NFS MW(2012), but I had a lot of fun with that game.
But now even if they made something of GotY quality, everything would be locked behind paywall and it would hurt just so much more.
It's the best "Need For Speed" game I've played since the first on the 3DO & PS1, it is not deserving of the horrid scores I've seen many main stream reviewers giving it, many love it like myself.

It is pretty bad but the racing, drifting, varied cars & deep customization is what puts it over the top for me, I love it & can't stop playing it.

R.I.P. my hopes of a good present and future NFS games... I can only reminisce of the amazing time I've had with the series. I'm truly saddened by this loved series I must let go of hopes of rekindling that love I once had.

lol...you get shipments for everything in game...no need to pay for shit...I spent nothing on the game and finished it with millions of dollars unspent...you really don't need it...I seriously fail to see the problem with this...also it's mostly an offline game and if you wanna play online you're gonna have several lv 399 cars at the ready already

Ugh, I really enjoyed this game when it allowed me to. There is a great game buried under the progression system, but yeah, this game deserves two stars.
Fuck me, when the review of a racing game has to focus this much on micro-transactions related mechanics like cards and loot boxes, instead of racing and cars, you know the game messed up.

That shop mechanic is insane. That's straight up F2P trash in a $60 game. I realize Star Wars Battlefront 2 is the bigger IP, so therefore it got more negative attention, but this seems even worse.
EA is just a terrible publisher.
The dopey, ultra-predictable storyline was enough to kill my enthusiasm at the E3 reveal, but the hopeless upgrade/progression mechanic seal its fate. Which is a shame, because it's got a neat car list and extensive customization options (if/when you unlock them, of course).
Fuck cards. Forza has perk/card shit too. I cant put a card in my accord and suddenly it's 5% faster. Just doesnt make sense.

We loved NFS series in its glory days but we kinda grown now to play Cop pursuit and car chasing stunts.
It sounded like you were describing a mobile game, but at least those are free.

yes it felt bad even from the ea access trial. just finishing the 10 hour trial felt like a chore so i stopped playing.
Cards kinda sounds like cars, right? I mean, if I want to get more performance out of my car, I just go to the store and buy some Magic the Gathering booster packs and then throw then under the hood.

If NFS could take a cue or two from FH it would help it out quite a bit, cause I haven’t seen a NFS game that I wanted to purchase in years. Gravel and Onrush do look fun though.
Gotta admit, I'm actually enjoying this game. The progression system can be a tad irritating but thankfully I haven't had to much of a problem with it. The racing is pretty good though and that's really the most important thing.
It's a shame that besides the microtransactions, overdrawn drift trials & drag races, it's actually a good arcade racer but ppl just totally trash this game as if the entire game is garbage smh

The harsh ranking decrease is a literal copycat of free to play game design, it's an hyper aggressive approach in shaming you for losing, giving you incentives to spend real world money to get ahead.

This has almost nothing in common with clasic NFS. It used to be racing on diverse street circuits or tracks. Handling used to be unique with a bit of realism. Cop chases used to be fun and sometimes challenging. Progress used to be pretty normal (compared to this lol) Thats like making GTA a pure linear experience. Not surprised about review scores.
It's sad because an arcade racing game is probably the most innocent and easy gift you could give a kid for a birthday or Christmas coming up, and some poor kid is going to get this abomination. I used to love getting games like NFS or SSX for my birthday. How can you go so completely wrong with a racing game?
Not trying to protect the game, but you could always replay old races to get speed cards. :P
