    I love Easy Allies reviews, but I wholeheartedly disagree with the score given. Yes, the game has plenty of annoyances, but they're honestly mostly minor (lack of sorting, explanations, short story, etc.) I genuinely have not enjoyed a NFS game as much as this one since Most Wanted (2005). My 2 favorite games in the franchise are Underground 2 and the original Most Wanted from 2005, and this combines the best of both! The performance tuning and customization is probably the best NFS has ever seen! I'm surprised there was no mention of engine swaps, as this is a car guy's dream! Plus, the actual racing is vastly improved, with improved drift tuning and options, the lack of invisible wall glitches, and you can drive through almost anything (walls, lamp posts, trees, etc) without making your car come to a full stop. This was one of the biggest frustrations for NFS games for a long time, and they finally did something about it. Race tracks are also done really well, with shortcuts and off-road options in many areas.
    My point is, I believe this game deserves at least an 8.0 or greater; I'd even go as far as to argue for a 9.0. It did A LOT of things right, fixing a lot of complaints/issues from Payback and NFS (2015). I've recommended the game to my cousins and friends, and they're all loving this game as much as me. I strongly believe that if you're a fan of Most Wanted (2005) and/or Underground 2, then you will definitely have a great time with this game! Don't let this review deter you from an awesome game!

    Well, I have to disagree with the score. I grew up with the series and I was so skeptical about Heat after the rather bitter taste left in my mouth by Payback.(cos E.A really believed making Payback and Battlefront 2 friggin' casinos was a good idea and oh what a shock that it backfired. Not to mention Payback felt so mediocre I'm surprised I played it until the end) So my hopes were not exactly high.
    And big shock, I friggin' adore this game. Would easily give it a 9. It managed to bring back that old NFS cheese just right (Frank Mercer may not be a Razor, Darius or Cross level baddie, but he's still the best NFS villain in years), the driving is damn fun (dare I say, addictive), the number of cars you can buy and customize is bloody great(never though I'd grow to love the Pontiac Firebird so much) and the customization itself is a huge improvement over Payback. And I like the Customization Rating that tells you how much you'll be able to customize your new ride before buying it.(Firebird is an absolute gem. No wonder it's a 10) And the cops are actually BRUTAL when you get to those high Heat Levels. And the fact that you can fix your car only 3 times during night really makes the chases friggin' intense.
    The only thing I don't like 'bout the game is the icky soundtrack. And there's still no option for me to create my own playlist except muting the music in-game and playing my own soundtrack on Spotify or something. Bummer. Could've easily added this feature.

    Good review, but I think you missed some core parts that are important to fans. The fact that grip handling is usable is huge factor for a lot of people and the added customisation options (like the exhaust and performance tuning, along with the street art being applicable to the car in the wrap editor) feel like a massive improvement over the last games.
    Of course, we all have different perspectives and I understand that this channel is directed more towards casual players, but it would have been nice if these parts had been included as well. Sorry if this sounds a little harsh, I am just very passionate about this series. L & R!

  • @coalburn7916
    @coalburn7916 Před 4 lety +8

    I don't completely agree with the assessment on cops. There is strategy involved, the problem is that strategy will only come into play when your car is between 250-330 performance level. If you're above or below that, the cops are either too fast or too slow for strategy to make a big difference. Of course, the fact that strategy doesn't play as much if a role as it should for a good portion of the game is a flaw, but to say it's purely down to luck isn't entirely accurate.
    Overall, I felt the review was fair, and the reasoning behind it was well explained. I would've rated it higher personally, but I think the verdict here was totally fair. Solid review as always.

    • @coalburn7916
      @coalburn7916 Před 4 lety +1

      @Teshigi Smith Maybe. But based on what they talked about in their impression video, I think it's compared more to the Blackbox era of games, aka Most Wanted or Carbon. The comparison seems more fair because those games are both single focused on taking on large amounts of cops at once.In that regard, I do think that there is less strategy involved in Heats cops compared to Blackbox's games. But strategy is still therez it's certainly not down to mere luck.
      Also, I reeaally don't think gadgets belong in an NFS game of this style. They worked well in Rivals and Hot Pursuit 2010, but Heat is a very different beast, much more akin to Most Wanted or Carbon. I just don't think the idea of gadgets fit very well.
      That being said, I would like to see more strategic decision making implemented.

    • @EasyAllies
      @EasyAllies  Před 4 lety +2

      Funny, between 250 - 330 was pretty much the bulk of my experience as I finalizing the review. For all the time I put into the game, I never even encountered a roadblock or spike strip. And I know they're in there, but for whatever reason the most extreme tactics I ever came across were easy-to-dodge rhinos trying to come at you head on and cops I could shake just by going over a couple jumps. -Bloodworth

    • @coalburn7916
      @coalburn7916 Před 4 lety +1

      Hmm. That is definitely odd. But also, I was referring more to the fact that there is strategy involved in the actual evasion of cops. Jumps, line of sight breaks, and a few others tactics can be employed. Different strategies work better for different units of cops. For example, in a fast car, the long, windy roads in the hills tend to be better for outrunning Corvette cops. But if you're being chased primarily by charger or crown Vic units, using the city's complex layout to break line of sight can be a more effective tactic.
      I agree it's not as strategically deep as the NFS games of old, but strategy is there, and it can be beneficial when used.
      Thanks for the response, though. I enjoyed seeing your opinions, and I thought you made some great points. I guess the part I would have liked to hear a bit more specifics on were the cops.
      Also, thanks for the crazy 18 hour day to get all done. Hope you get some good rest after all of this! :)

    I liked it but I thought the campaign was quite short and the order you unlocked things was really odd. When you unlock off-roading for example, most cars, that you would think are for off-roading, are too slow for most off-road events so I ended up converting a normal car for off-roading and then I won every off-road event with it....because it was too fast.

  • @tegancombatti7836
    @tegancombatti7836 Před 4 lety +2

    [Wow... This is just an observation, but that score in my opinion is unnecessarily harsh.] Blood, you do make some good points about the game's Technical faults, the lack luster narrative and the organization of the cars. Also you forgot to mention how horrendous the sound track is, seriously it's bad, just use spotify. However despite those things, I think there is a lot to enjoy in NFS Heat- like the sunny visuals, and neon flair of the city & country when driving between day & night nicely contrast each other, or how you can fully customize a car both mechanically and artistically to suit your personality & driving style; not to mention how driving around in the day can be pleasant and leisureable- while racing at night can be a really intense experience especially when trying to get away from the cops in a hot pursuit. I am not claiming Need For Speed Heat is Gran Tourismo, and it's honestly not trying to be. However I do think this game has a lot of merit for a hybrid arcade/simulation racer- particularly so if you crave something with an emphasis on style & fun. I won't say I have completed the game entirely in full, but If I had to give a score right now- I would suggest it's some where between a 7.5 and a 7.8 at least...possibly even higher, which in my opinion is worth your time.

    It feels weird when Midnight Club Los Angeles, despite its troubled development and somewhat rushed release, still holds up so well when compared to the last ten years of street racing games. Oh well, this seems like better than nothing for now. Forza Horizon does exist, but it's not exactly full on arcade street racing. And poor Tokyo Xtreme Racer series seems to be pretty dead still as well, which is a shame since they started doing some pretty neat things in Tokyo Xtreme Racer Drift 2 and Import Tuner Challenge.

  • @samueltheprideofafrikarobi9319

    But how's the "rubber banding"? Every racing game has it (for some reason) and all I ever want to do is buy a Skyline, trick it out, and have fun racing it. I saw as you were talking about the lack of menu options with dealers that my favorite car was in the lineup, and in most cases, that alone gets me halfway to a purchase. But if I can't have fun driving because the game is using rubber banding to ensure that the 400HP Mazda I'm racing is able to keep on the tail of my 900HP Skyline.............

    • @coalburn7916
      @coalburn7916 Před 4 lety

      There's no rubber banding as far as I can tell (I've played 50 hours). However, that's a double edged sword. Some AI cars are really, really fast, and the lack of any rubberbanding means that sometimes your car just isn't capable of keeping up no matter how well you drive.
      However, the games still gives you very good rewards for winning 2nd or 3rd, meaning that you don't feel compelled to win every single race.
      Also, cars can be engine swapped. So while a 400 hp Miata may not be able to keep up with your 900 hp skyline, a Miata with a 900 hp Porsche engine swapped in certainly can lol

    As a need for speed fan, I don't disagree, but in contrast to Payback, this game is a masterpiece. The police chases are fun for a bit, but they become pretty frustrating as the physics of this game tend to roll the dice on the amount of damage you deal and take from hitting other cars. The story is nothing special and the car list leaves a lot to be desired. While the game isn't super amazing graphically, the lighting and textures do create some beautiful screenshots of cars at times.

    Except the technical department which has issues (probably because EA insists using Frostbite engine even if only DICE really knows how to properly implement it), I don't agree with the general consensus of the reviewers out there. People wanted a Most Wanted/Underground game for ages. This is as close as you will get to that. The driving is as arcade as those games, running from the cops is exciting because you actually having everything you earned during the night to lose, tons of cool cars which you can customize to your liking, the map in general is well crafted with cool routes to take, the main story feels short and the characters nothing to write home about (I didn't find then annoying though) but it has some pretty cool moments. My only gripe is the soundtrack. It's absolute trash. Thank God for Spotify integration into the Windows Game Bar (or whatever they call their gaming overlay).
    But people should take off their nostalgia goggles. This isn't worse than Most Wanted or Underground. It is better than Payback and the previous of that). What do you want from the series anyway?

    • @ErebosGR
      @ErebosGR Před 4 lety

      The cars go way faster and have a lot more grip than in the Most Wanted/Underground installments. That makes Heat more arcade-ish and less cinematic.
      It's been 15 years since NFS: Underground, players now are a lot more skilled than back then. The driving model should reflect that.

    • @txcforever
      @txcforever Před 4 lety +1

      @@ErebosGR Depends how you build your car. You can build anything from a car that slips even at a straight line, to a car that handles like it's on rails. And I disagree. it was a lot easier to understeer and bump on the walls in Most Wanted than in Heat. Here just depressing and pressing the acceleration again will send your car drifting. Tap the brakes and even the grippiest of cars will start drifting.

    • @ErebosGR
      @ErebosGR Před 4 lety

    • @txcforever
      @txcforever Před 4 lety +1

      @@ErebosGR Depends how you see it. You still need to maintain speed (when the level of your car and your opponents is equal they are pretty hard to beat unless you cheat) and just sliding everywhere means you are way slower than them. And Most Wanted didn't really need any skills because 90% of the races were on routes with huge straight lines. So it's way easier to take a turn avoiding hitting the walls but way easier to lose momentum and the others to fly past you.
      The only reason Most Wanted felt challenging was because of the AI rubberbanding. You could never build distance between them because the game was programmed that way.

    This game is very good and a return to form, why? Because EA actually turned down the bs and lets the players race, earn currency, customize. Just by playing the game! without needing to do scummy business decision, like loot boxes and in game store filled with boosters and xp like free to play games. The games not perfect but it comes close to capturing early nfs games.

If you want a game like Underground 2, with fantastic customisation, good arcadey controls, great progression and unique setting (with its daytime and night time difference) this is the game to get. Easily an 8/10. If you’re fan of racing games and you can’t get Forza, then this is the game to get
