I miss the days where a racing game starts you out with a choice of a couple of beaten up cars. slowly chipping your way to getting a small amount of bank to get that small upgrade allowing you to finally win that big ticket race and allow you to get that new car.. oh the feeling buying your first real car to race and upgrade... Now before I even played a single race I have 15 cars in my garage and after the first race I can afford most of the cars in the roster.

The thing that struck me the hardest with this game was that when I'd finished a 15 minute race some announcer lauded me for finishing such a long race, and I couldn't help but think about TDUs Tour of the Island Race. It felt like such a mockery and I really longed for TDU again.

I know right, that's why I stick to TDU franchise way more than FH4 / FH5.
Not to mention that unforgiving time deduction system on TDU2, that thing along with the slight understeer from is the REAL thrill for me. Too bad TDU2's online servers shutted down, but I do remember the longest Ibiza race was like 3 times longer than FH4's Goliath exhibition race.

I made the mistake of buying Forza Horizon 4 on discount with all the "VIP and DLC bullshit (it was bundled together for pennies) and it showered me with these idiotic triple wheelspins that gave you tons and tons of cars, doubled all the money gained. Basically no sense of achievment at all, and I couldn't turn off the VIP 'pass' because they hadn't made the option. The entire sense of accomplishment and progression was gone, the game just became a big map to drive your infinite cars on until you got bored. I'm just not the target audience of these infinite reward mechanics, I guess. I like to earn the cars, spend time tuning them, picking them out, panting them and so on, but it's hard to make a car feel special or unique when I'll earn 3 Super Wheelspins and get 5 more cars and 800 000 CR in the span of 10 seconds. Of course i'm also tuning and painting cars and those get marked as Favorite so i can select them more easily.
If you play competitively you will want one car in each class for each discipline and figure out which one is the best at the job, that is a never ending challenge.
I don't even enjoy the stupid S2 Class Hyper Cars, they are too fast for anything that isn't the Highway.
I've been playing these games since Forza Motorsport 2, i have no interest anymore in starting from scratch with that Honda Civic and "slooowly working my way up", if anything i want to take my credits and the content of my garage from the last game with me into the next game so i DON'T have to start over every god damn time.

The winnings increase with difficulty settings, raceline, transmission, etc. And you could play how you wanted. It was always a blast to start with something simple like an mx5 miata or 2dr impreza and tune it to see how far you could compete with increasingly difficult vehicles as opponents. Or you could wait just long enough to earn the next class vehicle you wanted and make your way up the power train. Those were good days lol

I can't be arsed. The only two redeeming features are the customisation, engine swaps and 4WD conversions are awesome (but too easy since money is no object an hour into the game) and the community gave me the TDU vibes. Turn 10/playground studios have been massively guilty of this with both the mainline forza motorsport and forza horizon games, but mainstream media outlets let them off Scott free without so much as a passing mention (before I watched your review, I did a word search through the eurogamer and pc gamer reviews - they don't mention wheel support once!). The way Forza just throws cars at you with zero sense of progression or anything to work towards is why I only played a couple of hours of 4 & have no plans to return to it. Was fun for a bit but no drive to return to it at all due to the ridiculous overload of cars

Yeah when you don't really have to earn your cars or unlockables, that does take away the excitement, the feeling that you worked for what you got. This game looks more casual for sure, it looks like a game you could just chill and shut off your brain for a bit. Those type of games do have a place, and can be enjoyable.

Gaming hit a peak in 2000, after that it dwindled slowly. Gaming has become mainstream and that is what destroyed it. Its gonna get worse but THANK God for the classics. Forza Horizon is such a hard game to fully appreciate. Surely there is a lot of game for your buck, and so much to do, but the game just feels too bloated. For me, the game works as a showcase for what my XSX is capable of, graphics wise. And thats it. Playing the game gets shallow quite early on. You will be asking yourself, what is the point of going on. The first time I drove the Goliath Event, which was actually just a couple of hours in, I felt that I had seen all to be seen. From that point on it would just be endless, repeat able events. There is a feel-good atmosphere, and works alright for a casual gaming session for an hour or so, but never really got immersed. Everything comes so easy to you in the game.
