I seen this review and my heart sank. Seems to be typical yank wank. At first I thought this was just a prank but when I played it I knew it just stank. When coming up with new ideas they clearly drew a blank. Whoever greenlighted this is in need of a spank or even a shank. Tbh I’d rather shove my head into a snowbank but as it’s sunny I’ll maybe just take a stroll along the riverbank and then go home and watch Shawshank...

My final thoughts on NFS and what revews to expect in the coming days
People saying this game is better than the previous years NFS is like saying this car with no wheels is better than our last car as that one had no engine either, both are useless. You need to set the bar a bit higher and sadly many people these days have never experienced the good NFS games from 10 years ago and certainly never experienced a good open world driving game like Test drive. Maybe having 35 years gaming experience is a curse in this modern day as I have so many games of each genre in my library that I can see easily how most modern games are just lazy soulless experiences where graphics seem to be the only thing we care about. Anyway as mentioned in the summing up points, this game is good if you like basic car controls, copy and paste races and some basic cop evasion.
I will be releasing Planet Zoo review next, then RDR2 PC Review or maybe just a compare to Xbox version as I already reviewed that, not sure yet. Then Monday I will release Death Stranding review. It's been a really punishing week so far as all these games require huge time sinks in order to review, even NFSH took me two days of playing to get this review so please be patient as I am going through them as fast as possible and will deffo be taking a bit of a break before Star Wars next week.

did we play the same game? The cop AI is brutal and i got busted plenty of times. Your ''basic car controls'' arguments makes no sense. The handling feels smooth as silk and responsive. Not even sure if you even played the old NFS games because those games had Arcade style racing controls.
I usually enjoy your reviews but this is a poor take.
I didn't enjoy NFS Heat because it was better than Payback. I thought it was good cause i thought it was a fun arcade style racer and i appreciated the customization, the improved handling model, the brutal police AI and the day vs night mechanic.
How is it thumbs down if you put out two bad points at the end of review and the other two points are suggesting game modes and other things. Need for speed is arcade racer , I thinks it suits third person. Do think still thinks it’s bad compared to other ps4 racing games , we don’t have any and nfs what we have .
Johnny1248 , it’s not bad for a racing game , it’s has own take on racing instead of the same copy and paste from the other racing simulator. I agree ea is bad at making racing but this year it’s doesn’t seem that bad . And depends on ur console , ps4 it worth a buy , Xbox and pc probably not , cause they have soo many other racers.
@@Johnny-ux7yi The cop bit is fun but it's the same thing over and over again, same as the boring 3 lap races or drift challenges, play the game for 2 hours and you have literally seen it all. I think the BIG problem is I have seen way better than this in both NFS and especially in test Drive Unlimited 2, the bench mark is way higher than this, just sad most people are unaware of the early NFS games or TDU2.
As for the handling, it's dreadful, totally coded for children, I remember practising drifting for hours in earlier NFS games and TDU2 eventually getting very good at it, in this game a chimpanzee could drift after 5 mins of practice, it's all just dumbed down to make children look cool without any effort, really disappointing.
@@WorthABuyreviews i'm not a fan of the whole ''double tap to slide'' mechanic but at least the handling is responsive, accessible and fits the map (which is important in racing games) especially compared to 2015 and Payback.
i did forget to mention about the circuit races and while they are fun but it does share the same problem as Prostreet, they do get a bit repetitive. that's why the races at night feels like a change of pace. somehow the circuit races in Underground 1, 2 and Most Wanted 2005 still hold up.
as for TDU 2........well i don't think it's worth mentioning the game because it's inferior to the original, it's riddled with bugs (i haven't played it for ages) and a lot of the good ideas are poorly executed.
We need a return of the Midnight Club series. This would force other developrs to step up their game.

Nah. Mine just arrived. 3 hrs in the only flaw in this game is frame rate drops. I've also heard it crashes frequently but other things such as the story, upgradation, roster, graphics, AI are neat. Best Nfs game of this decade after hot pursuit 2010

They did remake of most wanted and look how bad it was, nfs 2015 was remake of underground which also was horrible. Ghost/Criterion games are incapable of making good nfs.

I specifically remember driving on the track that had mountains in the background, you crossed a giant bridge over a river, and remember how it never got old.

I still Play NFS-III (the First Hot Pursuit) to this Day, and to be honest, I don't think it is just Nostalgia, I think those Early NFS Games had something very special about them, I cannot think of any other Games that were like them, either before or Since.
That sounds to Me like "Mountain- Stage 2" from That Description.
Indeed, the Scenery in those Early NFS Games, especially given the Technical Limitations of the Time (4 Megabytes of Video Memory, and that was on a top of the Range 3DFX Voodoo! (Mk1, the Voodoo 2 went to 12 Meg) was absolutely Stunning!

as someone who has played the game, i can assure you that the game is actually pretty fun.
i am not a ''graphics whore'' kind of guy. i enjoyed the game due to the handling model, day vs night mechanic, the brutal police AI and the customization.
@csd Right but people dont want to play the same 8 year old game over & over again. So they are stuck with this. Dirt is better than this though I'd suggest that over this.
@csd FlatOut 2 is awesome and has car handling and physics that put more modern games by big developers to shame. I wish someone would take that game engine and make a serious racing game in detailed urban environments... or go the other way and go full-on Carmageddon!

This review my personal review in text form, coming from a NFS fan that's been playing the franchise since the PS1 days.
By now you should be aware NFS is not about story it's about racing so I don't know why reviewer's get so hung up on that.
The newest addition is the Day and Night cycle, which allows you to choose wether you race during the day or the night.
This in my opinion is much better than a natural cycle and once you play you will see why.
Customisation is wide and vast, Performance part's are back and better then ever, with twin turbos, big or duel Nos bottles etc.
We finally have engine swaps and the ability to alter your exhaust sound/note.
The graphics are great, car's sound the best they have in year's. The map gives me Most Wanted vibes while at night driving through the city gives me Underground flashbacks.
To me this game is a mix of the best series entries all put together as a spiritual successor.
The police are back and as brutal as ever, get busted and you'll have some hefty consequences.
The handling is easy for beginners with plenty of tuning options for the pro's.
If you're an old school fan like me i recommend turning the music down to 0 and putting on the Underground 2 playlist on Spotify, thank me later.
I highly recommend any need for speed fan (any racer fan in general) to buy this game early on as we need to support the Devs efforts, if this game doesn't do well EA will see it as a loss.
There is no micro-transactions and it's the most honest true to the franchise NFS in many, many year's.
Have fun.

You know which NFS game was great? Need for speed 3 : Hot Pursuit. It had none of that stupid story shit, none of the gangster in-the-hood urban underground nonsense, none of the "rep" crap and no stupid car upgrades. It was all about driving in cups in interesting environments with an amazing trance ambient track in the background, and the progression was getting to the next map. Oh, and it had police and wheel support.

NfS lost its identity somewhere around the Underground era. It used to be about driving expensive cars in exotic locations, now it has to be some kind of super-illegal street racing, with a story even.
6 years later and nobody can do in car conversations nearly as good as GTA.

Quite a shame that NFS became the Call of Duty of racing games. It used to be much better. NFS 2 SE / Porche / Underground 1 / Hot Pursuit / Most Wanted is what i remember the series for.

NFS games have been pretty mundane for years and the story has always been a gringefest. But I would have liked to see more of the customization options in this review. Carbon had the best customization and it's fluctuated in a townwards pattern ever since then

Nice review, I enjoyed it. I picked up the game and am having a blast, lots of fun. Story is meh, but it’s an arcade driving/racing game so who cares, don’t take the story too serious and just enjoy the racing smashing good times!

You zoned in on the problem. Nobody in the AAA gaming industry (or Hollywood for that matter) can come up with any new compelling ideas. Everything is rebooted, redone, or rehashed into the dirt. Unfortunately for racing game fans, I severely doubt any AAA publisher will put out a game that "progresses the genre." Don't hold your breath.

ChryRian it is alright. The 6/10 in fun is way to harsh in my opinion. I played every single NFS since the first Underground and Heat is definitely the best one we had in years. Go check out IGNs review. In my opinion 7-8/10 suits it a lot more.

Edit: 6/10 customisation is kinda bad. So it's still Average for a normal game right now and fixing the bots would make it a 6.5-7/10 for me.
The cops Chases suck, they can't drive and the keep rubber banding, or teleporting behind you at the speed of light is more accurate, and then they try to ram you and then they basically keep doing that.
And that's definitely a problem when you have like 10-15 of them chasing you.
And the racing is way to easy in the first 2 hours I haven't played more than 2 hours, but it's way to easy to trash the bots on hard so far.
I wish they would have spend more time on making bots drive well instead of drive like they are severely retarded and are having a stroke behind the wheel.

They didn't really spend time on how the bots drive, it's way to easy on races, and the cops depend 100% on rubber banding to keep up a Corvette struggles to keep up with a car that maxes out at like 230km/h, but then he rubber bands to 500000times the speed of light.

Yeah, this is a nice step in whatever direction Ghost is heading in. It doesn’t have forced online, there’s finally an option for night and day, you can see how customizable cars are, and there’s none of the cringe “muh destiny we are “group”” like in 2015 and Payback.

The best NFS game for me was Hot Pursuit (original). Most Wanted (again, original) is the only more modern NFS game I've really played and although a lot of people say it's the best one, I feel it's seriously lacking in content compared to the older games. This new game is just a re-skin of the last, what, half a dozen NFS games?
Man , I quit playing new nfs from nfs rivals , right now I think that forza horizon is a way better game than any new nfs.
What a shame , I remember when I was a kid and I was playing nfs , when nfs was actually good...

Can you believe this game is being praised on steam, racing games are a joke nowadays.
After watching this review, I thought, it can’t be THAT bad.
So I download it with Origin Access, got bored in the first race, and had to Alt-F4, delete and remove from my library during the very first cutscene before my brain melted from the worst, and most cringeworthy crap of all time.
I was also pretty gutted the cop didn’t throw that guy off the bridge.

Hmm it looks like every other NFS game, I think we just grew out the series and got bored of it.
Try the older one it's nothing like them, like 1998-2008/9 kinda depends on your liking.

Probably... but like always, game could have been a lot more. This time they didn't spend much on marketing, but still should have kept going and improving and maybe release next year instead.
Let's just say the NFS series has existed for several decades now...almost 3 I think. At its core it's a racing game. There are like 15 or more entries in the series. That means, on average, a new game every 2 years or so. Some entries are great, some not so much. Underground was phenomenal back then. It wouldn't be terrible today. The thing is: There's a time for innovation and a time for nostalgia, but there's never a time for repeatedly releasing basically the same game every few months. There's also only so much you can do with a racing game, but having more than 2 or 3 different race modes, varying amounts of laps, special enemies, missions, additional objectives in a race, actual progression, scripted or randomized events, good car chases, weaving in and out of dense traffic, etc.... would be a start.

No cockpit view? Again? In 2019?! Seriously what the fuck are Ghost Games doing, older Need For Speeds had them until the 2015 reboot, other driving games from the '90s had cockpit views.

I wasted money on Payback. No way I'm spending on Heat. Especially seeing how it's similar to it. It might be a better game than Payback but I gotta balance the expenses here.

Compare this game to Criterion's Hot Pursuit 2010 and you'll see Heat is practically wank in comparison. Hot Pursuit showed that doing the same thing over and over CAN be fun - it wasn't even open world. I play that game till this day and it has set races. Heat, on the surface, looks as if it has tons of content, then you get into it and, well...
Need for Speed is now officially a customization simulator, where customization comes first and actual driving experience comes second. Like seriously? That's not what Need for Speed is about. I really, REALLY wish EA would dissolve Ghost and find some new developers.

Then again everyone now loves customization in cars, simply announcing that they go back to a game with no customization at all would cause a riot in the community. Need for speed is like call of duty. It has done so many things in it's long run that it doesn't have a true image. You may thing you have it but then old fans of the pre underground and HP ara would disagree. Majority of it now centers around current car culture. And I'm gonna say they cant move on till they actually nail the modern day street racing scene. Because of all things that's what I truly want to have again. Ghost simple just lacked execution. And recently criterion took over but has shown they wanted to go back to full on brake 2 drift bullshit. Its early footage but god damn I'm worried I'm never gonna get my dream game.....

I thought that complaint was weird. Most racing games are just racing. I also thiught TDU wasn't the best example (because it doesn't quite have "literally everything" this game has, though I'm not sure which one he reffered to).
Ridiculous complaint... I usually agree with most things Mac says but he was talking utter shit with this one... Grid is way more repetitive than this game and only has a handful of tracks... As for there's a race there's a race there's a race... Durrh it's a RACING game..!? I'm sorry Mac but your talking bollocks in this one mate.. this is the first time I've thought bias is the only reason you don't like this one.. because it's EA
@No Nope I don't necessarily agree to that. TDU's racing isn't something that has yet to be accomplished, a lot of open world games have matched it's racing experience. And it's open world doesn't really feel much more alive than most games that came after it, like Midnight Club LA, Driver SF (both of which have much more traffic and pedestrians) or even the Horizon series and The Crew (which have comparable amounts of traffic).
I agree that TDU was ahead of it's time in it's scale (though underused to some degree) and concepts and is a great game, but most of the things that it's done have been replicated and in some cases improved by future games.

Rockstar have taken one of the best PS4/XBone games and made it into a bit of a buggy mess.Shame they did not test it more before release.Even runs crap on a lot of high-end systems.

im running the game on a gtx980 and i5 7400 on high and ultra in some places just fine
