It's a fun game with loads of content, great graphics, huge car selection with some great old classics to find, it's a good game no doubt about it.
It's also a huge missed opportunity, when will we get a great game like TDU2 again? Why can't we get out our cars and visit houses, shops, leisure complexes, car show rooms etc like we could in TDU2? Sad that games now are worse than they were 10 years ago and yet now the devs have unlimited funds and powerful computer specs.

I miss Test Drive Unlimited 1 & 2, it was such a great game. I haven't seen any game done in such a scale and better than TDU and it's a shame with all the technology and computing power currently available.

i wish the game was harder. like i want to enjoy the grind of starting with a beater Subaru and grind my way to a lamborghini. the fact that there's so much freedom and easiness in this makes it not as enjoyable when you get an exotic car

What Id like to see is an option to set to Sim Mode, with adjusted physics and better wheel support and more realistic damage. It might be too resource heavy now but I think it should be feasible in the future. It doesn’t have to be anything super hardcore, but at least make it feel like we’re driving a car instead of a hovercraft made of rubber...
The two key houses to buy are the one that gives you double forzathon points and the one that lets you fast travel anywhere. Then you get all those fast travel billboards. Now I feel like I'm totally set up in the game. being able to travel anywhere you want for free is really really really worth it.

Yeah kinda cringe worthy. The best game that incorporated narrative into racing was Need for Speed Porsche PC in 2000. Subtle context to underline and structure game play in a tasteful and adequate manner, not these shallow hype men.

To be fair, I don’t totally mind the fact that everything is easy to get. Don’t get me wrong TDU2 was the best racing game of all time, but forza isn’t about grinding races, it’s about being able to drive the fast cars. If you had to grind for 3 hours to get a Ferrari no one would play.

TDU2 was fantastic for the time, you are right. TDU was the pioneer of the open world racer, but alot of these new players don't know that.
Some points that aren't true:
-You don't earn credits for stunts unless you level up which happens a lot in the beginning
-After a few missions in the Stunt Driver one you do get a free house, that's part of the tutorial teaching you why they're important. That's _one_ singular house. The rest is 600K and up of ingame credits.
-Purchasing houses gives you teleporting points until you buy the one that allows you to teleport anywhere and then still each is a garage you can modify your vehicle at quickly if you don't want to drive across the map. They also give you perks and some even give you additional barn finds, they're not entirely useless.
-Yes, you can drive any car off road, but try doing that once with a car equipped with upgrades or above C600 and you'll be doing very little in the means of moving forwards or meaningful steering. It's absolute bullshit that it's easy to off-road with _any_ vehicle.
-Some cars in the wheelspin are only available in the wheelspin. Some cars are also only available via the Forzathon shop where you earn currency by doing specific challenges. Some cars are only available as weekly bonuses. That's where most of the progression lays, too.
This game is extremely casual and there's barely a sense of progression, but it's great fun with friends and the expansions are pretty good too. By now there's 712 cars and most of them are free. The voice actors can all get socked in the mouth, but don't discredit this game as being a piece of shit when it's very much not. I'm not sure if they fixed the wheel issue by now, though.
It's not todays music Mack. It's mainstream todays music. There are quite a few british groups, 20 year old kids, making really nice music with excellent instrumentals. Rex Orange County, Cosmo Pyke, to name two. You can like it or not, that's personal, but it's good and has work and care put into it. 0 autotune, real instruments, rich musical background and influences.

Yea I too wish it had a more serious tone, definitely hated the finishes that now appear as some TV screens from the previous Horizons where it was like a camera filming the finish line, but still appreciate the fact I can turn off all assists and have a more realistic racing game

I take it all back. I paid £50 for mine with the Bond Pack. Excellent game on the X - I play with a TMX and after setting up the wheel it is perfect to drive.
The last time I was this early, Telltale still existed.

Mack, I had the same issues with the wheel as you. Granted im using a different wheel to you (Fanatec V2,5) but ive managed to dial in some pretty decent settings that allow understeer/oversteer to work perfectly! The knack is to initially turnn everything off. thats Switch off VIBRATION SCALE, FORCE FEEDBACK SCALE, CENTRE SPRING SCALE, WHEEL DAMPER SCALE, FFB UNDERSTEER, FF MINIMUM FORCE..
Now turn on your Force Feedback scale and set a decent level you find comfortable with for both tarmac and offroad/gravel. (I have 35) Set your wheel sensitivity at the bottom of the menu to 100 (equivalent to 900 degrees for PC and ensure your wheel settings match).. Vibration scale is basically for you feeling bumps and knocks so its entirely up to the end user but i have this off.
Next leave CENTRE SPRING and WHEEL DAMPER SCALE OFF & FFB UNDERSTEER OFF!
FFB Minimum Force is experimental dependant on your wheel, if you feel your not gaining enough lateral load build up through corners then start to dial this figure up
Finally on your wheel, if it has menu settings turn damper and spring settings off. leave your FFB at 100%

For anyone who wants to match my settings ingame.. they are 35 FFB Scale, Sensitivity 100, Minimum Force 35. Everything else is OFF!
To help with the deadzones many people are also setting them to Inside -0 and Outside-20 for all
TDU2 was too easy modify the game save file, 999 billion within an hour of getting the game, loved it! Spent ages in the casino bit and was able to drive any car I wanted to!
I like that its casual, if today's game has grind design, you can bet there's gonna be micro transactions to get to the top

Way too easy to get rewards is a real issues these day yah? Played GTAV on PC, you start your character with a bonus 50K, Fallout 4 drove you straight to a power armor in the first couple of quest, played Assassins' Creed Origin you get legendary gears right from the start, Farcry 5 you get all kinds of special weapons right away as well. People just went like; well, don't use it then??? RPG players are usually the ones having issue with this, me included; takes away the immersion as soon as the game starts. Progression is no longer a real thing in video games these days; I swear to god if this continues I might have to go out of the house & get real life achievement instead...Wait..Nah, F that.

I've actually got my wheel settings sorted out now (Logitech g29) so that i can play normal street races fairly without issues. Still won't even begin rally races but i've got it set up so i don't have to play with a controller.

There is no Lancer Evo's guys so if you were wanted to race off road in snow using an evo then you are SOL.
Do note this isn't the devs fault, mitubishi is being a bunch of bellends but thought I'd say since the evo hasd been in every other horizon and was one of the main reasons I wanted this game.

I use a hori apex racing wheel with it, and it works fine. Thing is it runs as a "controller" instead of a wheel though, and all the sensitivity issues and such were fixed in the wheel's settings itself

Ok the wheel support is terrible, but with a lot of tweaking (there are a lot of options, but not the usual standard) you can get something that is passable. With improved wheel settings at sim setting and using a higher level AI racing becomes more of a fun challenge. It is a great game, even driving across the map from event to event can be very enjoyable, but I noticed that some rally/dirt events were very similar even if they were miles apart they reused a lot of tiles. The tracks were largely the same. My kids go for the supercars with their controllers at medium difficulty, I go for the rally and classic cars at sim settings.

The catch-up mechanic is what really ruined the racing experience for me, and I'm taking two points off for just that. As Mack said, you'll be in first place with clear skies, and all of a sudden the whole flock is right on your bum. When I raced the off-road titan, I saw the whole bunch of NPCs (maybe 10 of them) crash into a big house and they just sat there just waiting to respawn at the previous checkpoint. So I passed them, and moved up to first place. Keep in mind that the first 4-5 seconds I'm in first place, they're just sitting there doing nothing and then they have to accelerate up to the same speed I have. In reality there would be absolutely no comeback for them, but of course after just 15-20 seconds I see the whole flock again behind me and they even passed me easily. Just the most retarded game mechanics I've ever seen in a racing game.
I loved TDU1, too bad the studio is dead. I miss it :(

This game is sugar. Sometimes you need a pile of sugar ;) Like Halloween...it's just empty good fun in between the suffering of wishing other things existed. Looks like a great arcade racer that will be like comfort food :D
My controller (DualShock4) doesn't work with the game (yet) so I've had to use my G25 wheel and pedals and I gotta agree with you on wheel controls.
You have absolutely no sense of how close you are to losing grip at all, and once you start sliding the force feedback actually keeps you from countersteering effectively in stead of the front wheels turning to countersteer on their own, like they do in sims like Assetto Corsa and Project cars too.
I've gotten by so far by avoiding drifting and driving primarily front wheel drive and four wheel drive cars withe their diff set to send half or a little over half the power to the front wheels.
Ive even managed to save a few spin outs after about two weeks of practice at this, in my four wheel drive off-roaders.
In the end I decided to mail order an Xbox One controller so I can finally start doing the stuff that has been pretty much impossible for me to do, like drifting or rallying in rear wheel drive cars, I should be getting it on Thursday, just in time for the winter season to start.
As for what you call the full version, you're basically talking about the full version plus a little day one DLC, a prize money booster and a season pass for the upcoming expansions (and judging by the expansions for the previous Horizon, they'll probably be quite substantial) so the 80 quid isn't just for the full game, it's for the full game and a fair bit more.
And yeah the up-beat radio djs pretending to be racers and festival arrangers, nagging you to do shit all the time are obnoxious, as are the fortnite victory dances, but the game is good fun and I look forward to seeing how Turn 10 will try to top Horizon 3's Hotwheels expansion.

My suggestion to people trying to play with wheels. Sell the junk and get a clubsport 2.5 It feels amazing compared to the plastic thrustmaster junk. I had a TX and it felt good on most games but never felt right in Forza titles. It was an odd feeling like it was fighting me the whole time instead of letting me control the car. The Fanatec Clubsport really changed the way I felt about Forza games. It’s night and day.

I just want to say...no matter what people think about the game or games microsoft releases, I'm glad they're being released on PC. I don't want to buy an Xbox, but I do like some of the games, and the play anywhere program is pretty fucking neat.

I haven't tried any of the horizons IP, but am thinking about trying this one out on gamepass. i moved away from xbox after the 360 and had spent countless hours playing forza motorsport 1-4. they were so amazing and addictive. got really excited to dive back into the series when i saw that FM7 was on gamepass and holy hell that was insanely disappointing. practically everything that i loved from FM4 has been gutted. so weird how horizons started out being a more arcade-like version of the IP but seems to have turned into a more enjoyable option compared to the main line series

So sad, this game probably cost like half a billion dollars develop, yet they cant be bothered to implement wheel and peddals properly. There is no point for me to buy this game and play it with controler, when I can just do the same thing on GTA5.
Am sure they will fix it as it's clearly a bug, i did hours of testing with it and it's to do with the surfaces, you literally can't get the right feel if your car goes from tarmac to gravel, you can set it up for one or the other. Also the over steer is hideous, i used the exact same set up on the car with both a controller and wheel and the wheel was totally undrivable, over steering all the time without letting you feel it until it was too late to correct.
All the cockpit footage is with a wheel and all the third person footage is with a controller so you can clearly see how much faster you can go with a controller.
I will definitely keep an eye on the game, it does look pretty awsome otherwise, especially the graphics and the car variety, but right now the poor wheel and peddals implementation is a deal breaker for me.

Chris Newton I have a complete rig of €2000+ and i wouldnt even play this game with a wheel if the support was good. Play Assetto, Raceroom and Dirt Rally if you want to have fun with a wheel. This game is perfect for a controller and chasecam imo so you can see your epic car all the time.

Awful wheel support is a deal breaker - hopefully they sort is out. I want to drive 450 cars in first person through a field. Sometimes I don't want to play full-on sim. Forza is the most fun when you are just driving around with friends, the career with its lots of races is a solid bonus. Would like to have heard a little on multiplayer options - group challenges, online racing etc. as this looks fun.

Thanks for the review, finally someone agrees with me on the quality of the radio stations. Need a dedicated station just for the Pogues. If I remember correctly even Project Gotham Racing had a better radio and you even import your own songs from your own CDs. But besides the radio and lack of wheel support it really is a good game and does look great on PC.
