It's easy to hate the scammers, and it's true that the majority of the ones Kit talks to are scumbags, but it's also important to remember that poverty in India is rampant and a HUGE chunk of the population live in squalor. The population outnumbers the available jobs tremendously, so even scam work like this seems better than nothing to many people. It doesn't help that a lot of people in India have animosity towards people from America and Europe because our poor people still live better lives than most of their poor people, so there's a good amount of jealousy and envy that makes them feel justified in ripping Americans off.

But, they don’t go and scam people out of their hard-earned money. This sucks for everybody, and knowingly stealing from others is wrong, COVID or not. More so that these scammers specifically target and abuse the elderly.
