Saw an 80+ year old woman with a walking cane tonight at a Kroger in West Virginia trying to buy 3-4 gift cards. They denied her at the counter and kept the items. As I left with my cart I saw her in the parking lot on the phone frantically talking to someone. She clearly wanted to go back in and try to buy them again. Approached her with a smile and say, “Good evening, maam. Is everything okay?” She looked at me like she wanted help but couldn’t ask for it. I didn’t want to make her feel uncomfortable, but I knew something was wrong. Went to a cop stationed there and asked if he could help me try to figure out the situation. She was in her car about to leave (probably to another store) and I identified her. Cop stopped her as she was still on her phone and started dialogue. Im going to follow up tomorrow and see what came of it. I wouldn’t have known to be suspicious of this without you Kitboga. You might’ve helped save her tonight❤ you’re the GOAT

I used to work at a shady cheque cashing store that had a Western Union in it. One day a little old lady came in asking me to send money to her grand son over seas. I asked when was the last time she spoke with him on the phone and she said it's been about 4 months but she knew he was going on a trip, and according to an email, got injured and needed money for the hospital there. I told her it was a sketchy request and to call her grandson and see how he's doing first. She left without sending money. She came back three days later with a cake she had baked for me, and asked if I could leave the secured area because she wanted to give me a hug. This was about 15 years ago and I'll always remember it. Thanks for looking out for the people Kitboga, you're a genuine hero. 🙏

People don't want to feel stupid or believe they are wrong, so will stone wall and not engage with someone telling them something they don't want to hear.
You're so right. His way of gently probing what she believes to be true and then asking the scammers what is true and picking apart their story gently so she comes to her own conclusions was great.
The moment she indicated she wanted to end the call, he was wishing her a good night. She had a lot to think over and probably needed a few private hours to come to terms properly with what was happening.
I have no doubt that if she had decided she didn't want to talk to him any more, he would have backed off, but made sure she knew how to find trustworthy help herself and not to take calls at face value.

In a bereaved support group of about 15 people, 2 women were nearly scammed, one a romantic scam, the other a "your grandson is in trouble" scam. The "grandson" scam was stopped by a neighbor whom she called to drive her to the bank for an "emergency." This situation speaks to a much deeper issue, that is the isolation of many of the elderly. My dad has been a handyman for over a decade, and one of the recurring themes that I observed both with my time working with him, and with his stories I hear on almost on a weekly basis, is that isolated seniors are DESPERATE for connection, from the repairman, a waiter, bank clerk, the support agent, or really anyone who cares, or as in this case, pretends to care. This makes them ripe for victimizing at the hand of scammers of all types, be that the car repair guy, the tech scammer, or even an unscrupulous relative (in the case of one of last weeks sad stories, an addict grandson). Its the sad world we live in, but just remember, YOU could be Kit to a victim near you, all it needs is a little kindness.

This comment needs to be pinned at the top. Elderly persons are trapped within a cultural mythology created about them; rather than seeing them as people with the same needs as everyone else, they are framed as "seniors" who "retire" from society to their own world - and the myth cons people into thinking this is even a reward of some kind. Instead, people are disposed of as they age and abandoned.
In the area of scams, I have seen older persons literally say "at least it was someone to talk to" when recounting being scammed or used by someone else.

I have another aunt who also lives near my grandparents when they were alive at the time and she would visit them with my uncle.
It really depends on the adult if they spend time with their elderly parents. Some don't either because they were raised badly by the parent that they just want to ignore them due to past trauma or the person just became a dickhead and doesn't bother to care even if the parents reach out.

Someone tried something similar with my grand-aunt. They called and said that her grandson had been in a car accident and that he'd killed someone. They put on some guy for about 3 seconds who said simply "Gran gran, I'm sorry" and then it switched back to the other guy. Thing is, while she does have a grandson, he NEVER called her that, but I wouldn't know that until later. Anyway, the guy claimed he was a lawyer and that the initial fee was $15,000. She apologized and said that she didn't have that kind of money. Which was true. The guy on the phone hung up. We thought that was weird and called my cousin and asked if he was okay. Very confused, he said yeah and then we explained. He told us it was a scam.

Agreed. It is an indicator of being human. Unlike psychopaths, they lack the emotions that make us human eg sympathy, empathy, guilt, remorse, and taking responsibility for ones own crimes. They just can't do it. I deal with romance scammers and it is my beleif that the young boys who are trained to be romance scammers are training to be psychopaths. They have been the cause of so many suicides by betrayed victims and they just don't care. Just yesterday there was a news report of another suicide after a teenage boy was targeted in a romance scam, quite likely using photos of a porn actress as a lure, he sent photos to the scammer and the scammer threatened to release the photos to all in his friends list. The scammer was -of course- traced to Nigeria. His own country has arrested him and who knows what will happen from that. They are very light on their criminal scammers and most who are caught are given a plea deal, no prison and pay a fine. The government benefits from the proceeds of crime. It is all viewable on the website for the EFCC, the plea deals, the fines, the charges. I was so shocked when I read just how easy those criminals have it. Sent back out to do it again to some other poor victim.

Long story short, they had called months earlier and set her up with some security BS, and had now called back because they needed to refund her. Then they did the usual thing where they "accidentally refund too much", and she needed to send it back to them with gift cards.
I was able to call apple to freeze all the cards, before the scammers autioned them off, and get Walmart to issue a refund authorized by Apple.

@@THERECAPGENIUS oh I'm not trying to make any sort of excuse, believe me. It's absolutely disgusting. I mean they'd rip their own family off it seems like, and I definitely didn't mean it that way. You're right, make money honestly like the rest of us. So that guy I was talking about, the scammers actually called Walmart asking if we sell gift cards, after I talked to the guy extensively. Thankfully,I work at customer service, so I got to answer their call. I said ya, thinking nothing of it. They said, well my friend was in there trying to buy some and told me you don't have them (he had a strong accent too, of course). I said, ya because when we realize people are getting scammed, we won't sell them to the customer. He's like what do you mean? I repeated myself and said, you should be ashamed of yourself, and hung up. I felt so good with that one. It had to do with his computer too. I also have had to stop puppy scams a couple times because I do Western Union, but ya, it happens so often it makes me sick. If I knew I had sold something, and had any type of feeling that person was being scammed, I'd feel horrible. I do talk to people and warn them so I like to think I'm helping a bit that way, but watching them get their time wasted just makes me so happy 😁

You have to understand what it means to be old. Imagine all you family is gone or far away. Your friends are no longer around. Your spouse is gone. You are truly alone and each year you feel more and more disconnected from a ever changing world you feel less and less able to understand. At that age you are lucky if anyone wants to even talk to you and when they do, it's the greatest feeling to feel connected and wanted. Most seniors deal with crippling isolation. In fact back in the day there was the Home Shopping Network, and seniors would call in and buy stuff just to talk with the agents and became friends with those agents. The old people didn't need the stuff but they liked talking with someone that cared to talked with them. Scammers also figured this out and exploit this loneliness. Hopefully this helps your understanding how a desperately lonely person can have blinders to obvious red flags we would see. Happens in abusive relationships too where a partner can't see what everyone else sees because of the mind games played on the victim.

I think the "victim" is one of those scammers. "She" sounds like she’s using an old woman's voice. They're pranking or trying to scam Kitboga.
Red flag @19:39 : Why would this supposed old woman point out the obvious fact that she's a "senior"? No real old person would say that since you can tell their age by their voice. They want him to really believe that "she" is an actual old woman. Additionally, her 'cries' seem fake. And even though he was trying to help her, she didn't want to talk anymore and used the classic excuse of "it's getting late" and how her mouth was dry @26:42
Maybe the scammer got tired of waiting for Kitboga to send her some pity money. Their whole plan was to pose as a victim and make up a story about how she was scammed for years so Kitboga would send her money once he felt bad for her.
Not to mention, Kitboga was supposed to hear this part at 0:43 so he would be convinced she was a real victim when he hears the scammer telling the "victim" what to do.

My mother lost 300 to an amazon scammer and thinking about it even now makes me upset. You are doing such a good thing Kit

And 300 is coffee money in the cup holder by comparison to what vanished from many seniors accounts 😢.
Theft is the biggest problem in society.

@@RetroCaptain300 isn’t much money in comparison but often scam victims suffer mentally quite a lot more than dollar amount.

I felt ALL the feelings watching this Kit... So sad for Sarah, shocked at how complicated this is, SOOO mad at Abhi I could bop him and so encouraged by the fact that there are people like you and your team helping her. All to think that his has come from you taking chances, making mistakes and getting messy. It's so inspiring to me to see what great things can come from small beginnings.💜

The community suggested this before but at the time Kit told us that the scammers own all of her accounts. They had access to everything ao there was no place the money could go to. Now it seems like she is doing better and she had some untouched funds left somewhere

She needs friends, people to talk to. I hope her community will take a notice and help. You can try to do it in your community, find some ways to keep elderly people feel connected. Organize a trip, prayer group, singing meetings.

This tops every video you’ve ever done. Even “do not redeem”. You are a genuinely good person and you are more than just a comedy channel, you are making a real difference in the world. You are saving lives. Please say hello to your new grandmother for us and let us know if there’s anything we can do to help.

The thing I hope Kit realizes is that by making videos like this- he’s not only potentially able to intervene and help people already in this situation but helps countless others from ever being in that position.
And does it while making them laugh.
I think that’s even more noble and important. So yeah. While you can’t technically count what never actually happened- he’s undeniably saving people.
Your grandma would be proud of you kit. Genuinely. I know beyond a shadow of a doubt. You dedicated your life to stopping others from being in her position. And you have succeeded innumerable times.
I know you probably saw a lot of your grandmother in the victim here. Understandably so. Just know that if she could- your grandmother would be thanking you too.
You’re a wonderful human. Never give up.
