I was in 8th grade at a Catholic School when Life Of Brian was released. The school and church were so upset about this film we were all called into an assembly where we were told that by no means we were to see this offensive film. Before this assembly I had never heard of the film, and as it was rated "R" would likely never have seen it at age 13 anyway. - That friday we were released from school early and usually we would take in a film a the local movie theater. We all purchased our tickets for "Breaking Away" a PG film about a bicycle rider- and immediately snuck into the the other theater showing Life Of Brian! So glad we did. My first ever Rated R film and it was a classic. BIG thanks to Sister Margaret and Father Mayer!

I couldn't disagree more. You only need to be aware of the existence of suicide squads in general to get the final joke and since it's Monty Python it doesn't have to make "sense". In fact having it come out of left field made the final joke a lot more effective and having the Otto scene in would have given it away. I'm all for taking the piss out of Zionism, but the Otto scene was a bit drawn out, and "oh look a Jewish Nazi" isn't enough of a joke to justify a scene that long IMO.

What year did you acquire the pirate copy, and was it a VHS/Betamax tape (VCRs still being out of reach for many in the late ‘70s) or an actual film copy? Also, what country/state were you residing in that banned it? These were all things of which I was curious after reading your post, and they still haven’t been answered. It's very interesting how that scene with Pilate's wife was edited out. Looking at the finished film, you can see how they switch location in the middle of the fight, which of course nobody notices. But I wonder how they did to make the fight start again after "Let's fight our common enemy". I mean, did they shoot new footage or were they able to put it together by using footage they had and just adding some lines of dialogue? ("Right, where were we" etc...) Watch the sequence and say what you think.
