This quest, and his second one really do give us a real glimpse into how horrific teyvats reality is. We normally don't get to see how much the concepts of immortality and the scale of the archon war affected the world and the people around them. It isnt a happy world, and our sibling knows it way better than we do

The description for the mask from the Archaic Petra artifact set says it all:
"It is said that during the years when gods contended against one another, Rex Lapis' aspect was that of boundless slaughter.
In those god-eat-god battles, one could never have ascribed gentleness to him.
He knew right from wrong, and never missed his mark: in those days of tumult, he would show no mercy, even to friends-turned-foes.
Rex Lapis' stone-cold expression never once changed throughout that storied age.
They say that only when the dust settled did he lay down that unmovable visage.
But it had been necessary, for he had donned it to fulfill a contract."
Yea we started our journey in the rather peaceful time,while our twin started her own journey 500 years ago.
But before that period,Teyvat was even harsher & a cruel world to live in.
ei and zhongli both told the traveller to remember the history and truth as they go onto other worlds. it makes me kinda nervous that someday something would happen to our archons, esp when we reach celestia. and (spoiler alert for 2.4 enkanomiya) unfortunately i think all the civilisations in teyvat would end up having the same fate as people in enkanomiya

It turns out that Celestia and the gods supposedly aren't even from this world. If we're to believe him about that, anyway, but it does line up with the Archive's descriptions for the Bathysmal Vishaps saying Teyvat was originally ruled by dragons, not gods. So maybe the next world we visit will be the one that Celestia came from.
It seems like all of the archons know some things about Celestia and its gods, but they're under an NDA, hence Zhongli telling us he couldn't tell us about Khaenri'ah and Raiden Shogun's voice over where she keeps things vague about how the distribution of Visions actually works. Anyone who threatens to expose the truth will be disposed of, like Orobaxi.
There is a theory that says the reason Zhongli is so long winded and talks so much is to stop his own erosion. The stories and anecdotes are an effort to keep his own self from being worn away.

Btw, Zhongli listening to storytellers talk about Rex Lapis and discussing with scholars about himself never fails to put a smile on my face.

And this right here, is one of the best Character Story Quests in Genshin Impact, where we got the first taste of GI's dark and sad history pertaining to the archons.

Interestingly enough, before Zhongli's story quest came out you could find traces of the story of Havria in books and conversations with NPCs... but the difference is motive behind the murder. From what i recall, it was believed that Havria was killed by the mortal king of Sal Terrae. He disagreed with Havria's policies of passiveness and believed that only military might would save everyone. So to prove his point, he killed Havria... or so the legends go.
It was pretty surprising for me, to learn about the god of salt and then re-learn what actually happened. Who would have guessed that the murder of Havria was done out of compassion and mercy, not out of a lust of power or to show off your power? Genshin does a great job of scattering small bread crumbs of deep lore all over the place, that eventually pile up into massive secrets. It's hella interesting to try and read everything you get your hands on!

Like what Zhongli said , history can be twisted and changed at some point. Only the truth would be harsh sometimes to its people.
"History records, but history may be changed." Coming back here after all the Sumeru quests makes you really wonder who Zhongli actually is if he understands this, and what he's gone through and seen throughout his life to make him want to have Traveler as a witness.
One more thing is that Traveler isn't affected by history changes on Irminsul therefore.. him being a witness of history makes the more fitting role, like the existence record of Greater Lord Rukkhadevata existing is only now left to the Traveler because he is a descender, the 3rd descender is dead because... *Spoilers Alert*
The 3rd Descender was revealed to be dead and has their remains what became the Gnosis, and the 1st descender is the Primordial One who lost their power and so I heard and the Second Who Came is the 2nd Descender in which I also don't know but the 4 descenders arent part of Irminsul
I think it's very possible that Zhongli wasn't born from Teyvat but existed far before then. So either a descender(very unlikley), a shade of the primordial one(likley), or an ancient sovereignt dragon(maybe likley) since he isn't affected by the irminsul's reality changing affects, and apparently "descended" to teyvat.
Zhonglis Quest are really great, the first one has a really great story and the second has an extremely nice boss

(I wanted to keep the quest for when I knew Zhongli would have a rerun soon and I thought now is the time^^)

I absolutely love Zhongli's story quests. I love learning about Liyue's dark history through him. This and Act II made me want either a manga or an anime focused solely on the Archon War tbh :(

Almost all story quests deal with some heavy topics, but Zhongli’s story quests just hit so hard for some reason, it lets the traveler see a glimpse of the horrible truth of the land of Teyvat

I really like everything about zhongli, the characters, the voice actors, how strong he is in the story, and from the three regions that exist now archon zhongli's quest that best describes him as a god.. and once every year he comes down during the rite decension to guide his people ... character in the party that is never replaced (in my party) there is always a party slot for him and makes me forget the dodge button

Zhongli saying we would be the backup if the original is changed has more meaning now as of 3.0-3.3 archon quests

Zhongli's story quests are so good. Honestly the best content in the game. The VA did such a good job reflecting on the past, you can hear the bit of pain in recalling the past. The regrets, and the horrors of the Archon War.
I love the fact that after this quest Teyvat's sea will be filled with salt just like the real seas and that before this it was never the case

This whole quest blew my mind. The fact they gave us a glimpse of what the Archon War was like, the horrors that many witnessed and were part of, it really makes you question a lot of things. The pure fear and horror I felt when I saw those people petrified in place, forever frozen, was something I will never forget.
The first act of Zhongli’s story quest had me nearly in tears by the end of it, because Zhongli is such a lonely character
He’s the only one of the original seven archons still alive (to my knowledge) and has lost so many friends to so many different circumstances, eventually faking his own death so that he can be relieved of the burden of being Liyue’s archon
His story quest, both of them, really, are so meaningful in so many ways, which is why Zhongli is one of my absolute favourite characters

"Now that Rex Lapis has passed Barbatos of Mondstadt is the only one of the Original Seven that still lives." Barbatos started out as a simple wind Spirit that helped a young boy fight a revolution against Decarabian and took on the form of his dead friend after becoming an Archon.

I recently completed his story quests too, and from that moment he has become my most favourite character. Too inspiring and I got to learn some essential life lessons from him lol....after the second chapter I was just left speechless and emotional. 🥺

If you choose the second option when you confront Zhongli, the option where Traveler says that he didn't just hear about how to release the seal on Sal Terrae, Zhongli actually confirms that and tells you that he's the one that applied the seal in the first place. He knew how to break the seal because he was the one that put it in place. It can also be inferred that when Rex Lapis agreed to take in the last remnants of Havria's Followers and protect them that they entered into a contract with him to keep the truth hidden from their descendants. I would imagine Rex Lapis told them that the truth would have to be revealed eventually and that it could not be suppressed forever. It would not surprise me if there was a clause in the contract that nullified said contract once the current generations of Havria's Followers had all passed on and that at that point, it would fall to Rex Lapis to determine if and when the truth should be revealed. Mind you, a lot of this is speculation based on what we know of Rex Lapis, but I can't see Rex Lapis agreeing to perpetuate the lie of him being a murderer unless it was the stipulation of a contract that he signed.
I really want a Part 2 to the God of Salt story. I want to know why Rex Lapis agreed to all of this. The fact that Rex Lapis sealed off Sal Terrae with his power tells me that he had his own personal reason for agreeing to the Survivors' request. And we know he didn't seal Sal Terrae until after the Survivors returned because he said that they returned to break the sword that was used to murder Havria and to beg her forgiveness. So I doubt they asked him to seal it.
Still amazing that Zhongli is still the only archon to have gotten a double personal story to him.

Zhongli really got the long straw, both story quests are just exceptional per genshin standard.

I normally set the clock to night before activating cutscenes, they are much beautiful at night. Including the last cutscene in this quest, when Zhongli delivers his monologue and releases the relics into the sea, it was magnificent to watch at night and it fit the mood.

i was especially interested in this quest, so i didnt miss any dialogue and description of things involving that quest. it hits different if you read every single "salt statue"'s description before the quest reveal the truth and make us see the scenery of hariva's death.
And that is how the oceans of Teyvat became salt water lol.
Hopefully you found this out since or during from the Twitch chat but Zhongli's pillars resonate with other Geo objects so you can expand the range and multiply the damage, can only have 3 geo objects at a time though except for Geo Traveler's ult.
Works really well with Albedo too, nothing like just putting down Albedo's and Zhongli's skills and watching enemies die in your circle of death while they bang against your shield.

Maybe the best Legendary Quest. The things Zhongli reveals, the magnitude of history is beautiful and overwhelming at the same time. I have also a theory... Zhongli says as a traveler who travels from different worlds. Maybe Teyvat is not the end. Maybe after 5 or 7 years of game and arriving to Snezhnaya and Celestia, Mihoyo gives as a big surprise and traveler travels out of Teyvat to a brand new world. Chapter 2.
I think definitely one of the best!
Morax will be always the best god and ancient archon in Genshin Impact... As Yae Miko says "Morax? What a fascinating god he is (...) you can take the view that she's acting like a little girl, throwing a temper tantrum and locking herself in her room, don't you think?". Comparing Baal with Morax
For their straight in the moment of fight... in the Story: Morax that never change, Ninguang fighting side by side with gods and adeptis leading for the victory, and Kazuha the only leaving being that could use more than one Vision even for a moment and repel Shogun's attack...

Archon War was a war for power, not the war of "good vs evil". All the current archons won because they were more powerful to come out victorious, not because they are "pure good" or anything like that. While this isn't about Havria specifically, but I'm sure not all the gods or creatures Morax (and other archons) killed were evil or even bad at all. It is what it is 🤷♀
P.S.: Morax was also known as a war-god, a heartless and powerful one who was an unstoppable fierce force in a battle. He was never known as benevolent or nice in any way before he met Guizhong who taught him kindness. So, once again, the past is what it is 🤷♀

Even now, I still get emotional seeing this quest. I swear, this quest is one of the best Character Story Quest ever released.

This quest really solidifies my theory that Rex Lapis has the same goal as the Tsaritsa but just went about it differently. He made it clear that he’s no longer Liyue’s archon multiple times and insisted other adepti to not get involved with mortal affairs. Him wanting Liyue to stop their obsession and reliance on the Lord of Geo and to protect themselves reminds me of how Khaenriah was able to survived and protected themselves with no god at all. He made a contract to end all contracts, which sounds like a loophole to end his service to the Heavenly Principle’s rule. This leads me to have wild imagination that the Heavenly Principle may try to prop up another Geo Archon to replace Rex Lapis in the distance future in case Liyue becomes another Khaenriah situation because they’ve become so used to not having a god.
And that is also the story of why the sea water is salty 🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂

I think Act 1 is a little underwhelming compare to Act 2. When patch 1.5 came out, I didn't expect the quest was so good. I almost cry at the cutscene.
