Building an Off-Grid Log Cabin in a Cedar Woodland using Hand Tools - Bushcraft Shelter Project ep.3
VloĆŸit
- Äas pĆidĂĄn 15. 07. 2021
- In this episode, I continue the off-grid bushcraft log cabin build by making a few adjustments to the soon-to-be roof. I used some hazel hurdle walls (leftover from the roundhouse build) to make a temporary door and window. Who likes fried chicken? Let me know in the comments section below. Who loves fried chicken đ?
Everyone ;)
Kel loves orange soda. Oh wait... Sorry
@BUSHCRAFT TOOLS everyone even eals u should try it out đđ
Fried Chicken is so underrated!
Question that Iâve wondered about for ages, when you deep fry in the Dutch oven, what do you do with the oil afterwards? , do you tip it on the fire ? Must be a faff to transport back home ?
Me
Your determination alone is impressive enough for me to say that there are still MEN in this world of today. Thank You!!!
You were doing so well with the pegs. Nails are quicker, but...ya know. Still, awesome job!
Frank's Red Hot just begs for you to melt some butter in it. Then use that to coat your chicken. If you like it spicy you can boil and puree some peppers to give it even more of a kick. If you are going primitive, dice up your peppers add a little oil and saute them till they fall apart. Then add that to your Franks and butter. Makes your mouth water.
love watching you while working good job
The dog is there for supervision and moral support, and by golly, itâs doing a fantastic job
Watching your vids from BULGARIQ!â€â€đ§đŹđ§đŹđ§đŹđ§đŹ
Hey, Dustin! I was going to comment that you were showing 'dogged determination' on this project. Then I saw Amber... I look forward to following along as you develop the Primitive Village concept. I particularly enjoy seeing good ideas being 'fleshed out' and past projects being used over time. It's a bit like coming home to a cottage in the woods! AS FOR YOUR FOOD: I can imagine that participants would flock to your courses just to sample the fried chicken!đđđ
Haha, thanks James. Comments are always appreciated
Hello from Minnesota!
Nice đđ
Finally someone making the cabin I see in my head the way I want to see it done! I'm excited to see the rest!
HA! Look who has a portable spice rack! Well played, Mike should be green with envy!
Dude, you had to be a chef at one time in your history. You make food in the woods that looks better for you and tastier than 95% of dishes out there.
Haha. Thanks for the comment. Never been a chef...just wanna eat tasty food when in the woods!
You're making me seriously consider building a log cabin of my own. I already have 250+ acres I've permission to build and log on. Always wanted to build one but I tought it was to much work but you're making it look easy
Er, people like Dustin make it look easy. It's not.
@burningfeet 53 Never said it actually was easy, just that he made it look easy :)
â@burningfeet 53 If I do it, Im sure it wont be, but it'll be an excuse to get out in the woods. And besides hard work can be fun, if you enjoy it.
Whoa! Settle down Amber. Sheâs so excited about the new build. đ€Ł
All that hammering and Amber never looses a wink of sleep. That's the life.
Sharp saws. Outdoors quiet. And wings. We need to hang out, build, and cook. Keep it going my dude!
Watching your videos from Iraq đźđ¶â€
Great project

its amazing that you have 93.2k subs now.
Congratulations
Made fried chicken wings over a campfire... wow I would have never thought of that, nor thought it was even possible. Impressive.
Great job Dustin đđ”đ
Thanks đ
Great job impressive and fantastic, love the dog and your work
You made the fried chicken correctly, then ate it correctly. I wish I had watched this before supper.
Like see this built in sid ed of a hill as a dugout frame structure!!
We'll hit that nail Dusty, ma man.
Keep it up BiG man totally rockin.
Love the build.!!!!!!!!!
I love that you have franks over there. Best hot sauce around!
U Dustin progress like hero, take care brother
It fantasic to see you doing this on your own. Not to demean you at all but you helped Mike out with so many prjoects, he should be here lifting logs with you. Edit: Oops there he is!

Great work with all those pegs. Nails are totally historically accurate. Doing a lot of pegs and a few nails is how a lot of men would build structures, as nails were expensive.
i was not leaving until i seen that beer crack open skÄl and enjoy your time in the woods. I still think wooden shingles would look great on that log cabin either way have a good one and great video.
Love Amber đ
Some cooking at last :D
Great viedo đ
Food looks awesome đ
From Florida God Bless.
I was hoping you would make some good food. I hope once you complete the cabin you make a feast to celebrate đđ»
That I will do!
MMmm... MMmm... Mmmm... The Chicken looked fantastic!! Between you, Simon(Bloke in The Woods) & Mike (TAOutdoors) all of your meals tend to be better than what comes out of my kitchen. Utilize your pressure cooker next time for Fried Chicken and the Colonel (originator of "Kentucky Fried Chicken" restaurants) would dub you "The Finger Lickin' Good Chef of the Woods!!". Been anticipating the progress of your cabin. Bully to you for taking on the project, you have a lot of people envious!! Keep up the good work!!
Awesome build thus far Dustin. Like the idea of the barndoor system it's so practical in this situation. KFC eat your heart out ... lol. Thanks for sharing mate. Bushyboy Oz.
built to last, i loved this type of build compared to others using rope for everything feeling temp not long term. SUBBED!
New nails, though, eh? Great stuff again, Dustin. "Deep fryin' good, in the Woods"!
The fact that you fried đin the wild I love it
You need to try Slap Ya Mama Cajun Seasoning for your deep fried chicken. It will blow your mind!đđ»đš
I thought of a way you could do a sod roof for your cabin. make the roof frame and ridge pole. Then make hazelwood wattle pieces and secure them to the frame with cordage, and then cover that with daub, then cover the top side with evergreem (hemlock branches do best) with that larger branch ends near the peak of the roof. Now put down your sod starting from the bottom eave and working your way upwards. Double cap the the peak with sod.
*nods approvingly at the sight of Frank's hot sauce*
Hi Dustin .
Great start .
I canât wait for the next instalment and find out the end look .
The chicken looked bang on sir .
Great vlog ⊠đ đđđđđŽó §ó ąó „ó źó §ó ż
You mate from over the boarder. (Devon)
Greetings from Devon (Croyde)
You should try "Franks" Buffalo wings sauce. Awesome.
93K subs! I'll crack a beer with you when you get to 100K. Great little build.
"Frank's! I put that s#*t on everything!" There it's been said.
High five to that!
I do too! Any kind of meat, eggs, tacos - sometimes a little nip straight from the bottle đđ„đł
Ohhh - respectfully have to disagree - Encona original West Indies hot pepper sauce - or the California Reaper version - enough to make a dragon đ cry đ
It would appear that this line was only used in a regional radio advertisement. LMAO
15:05 my favourite sauce, but "XTRA" version is even better.
I hope you are going to use shingles for the roof. Franks Red Hot is the best!
Yr store from tree skin. Creative. đ.lf I got change.Iwill be yr studen.
Wings đ€€đ€€
This looks amazing. Just curious what camera you film with? Your footage looks great
Those chicken wings look yummy đđ
I like your choice of hot sauce. Franks original I put that s!?t on everything lol
Great Music in intro! Where is it from?
Hi Dustin how about cedar shake shingles. Woohooo
Awesome đđ. Luv that stable door, are you going to watel & dorb or stuff it with mose ?
Ok a bit in advance. What are you going to use to caulk the joints of the Log Cabin to keep it water tight and how are you going to fit a floor?
Have yourself another Dam beer
Dam right â
Had a few of those Dam beers in Barcelona.
Sure hope you allowed the dog some fried chicken, without the bones of course. Thumbs Up!
Looking at this, once the roof is on you could dig a well and a septic system and have running water inside if you could lift the water, maybe with a windmill.
But unlike your previous structures, is this one going to be solid enough to affect the land's property tax assessment? Because that looks like a permanent structure worth thousands of pounds.
Sweet little Hammer for so big Nails đŹđŹ
Yo Dustin , don't know if it would help, but a shorter shaft hammer might?????
Try it .
That chicken looked finger licking good the build is looking good just a heads up I got a copyright strike with that tune atvb Jimmy đđđđ
Hot sauce isn't for food it's for drinking đđ đ ur chicken looked tasty tho. are u making it with a shingle roof đđ
Hey Dustin,
Great video as always. Amber was big chillin until the food came out, you can tell this isnât her first rodeo! And I think you know we all want some too đ
One question: what is your stance on brace drills? They are also hand tools, Iâve always been surprised Iâve never seen one. I donât think Iâve ever heard you speak on why you use augers instead, actually. Just curious your thoughts on this.
Cheers!!
Well now. That's a VERY literal interpretation of a "woodshed".
