I put some finishing touches on the simple off grid log cabin build. It is sealed and ready for winter but there is plenty of interior work to do on the cabin.
I found the chapters in czcams.com/users/postUgkxYGamVaHfdHiPlAQaLa7zkwR02OKpGYDU to be very relevant to my project as I embarked on building my first ever structure from the ground up. I especially found this Ryan’s Shed Plans to be of great use when it came to building the roof. I was able to do all the cuts and installation by myself, with a little reference to this Ryan’s Shed Plans.
I read the entire Ryan’s czcams.com/users/postUgkxGqOCINHE0Z0E5gxzSdNi9NWGugRY5Hm2 Plans and was able to make a shed plan. Using Ryan’s Shed Plans alone, the shed itself is great. Where I wish I knew more is with respect to ground preparation and foundations. Maybe that's beyond the scope of Ryan’s Shed Plans.
His new grandchild has just been born, he comes to the hospital to meet them. As he hold the infant in his arms, he says to them: "You'll have the cabin down the bottom by the river when you're old enough"
That’s pretty awesome most people your age are sitting on their ass playing video games you’re actually living life. Great build on the log cabin can’t wait to see it this winter.
You know, I understand your point. But I'm here, in college (I don't want to be anymore) and broke. I don't have money to buy land nor do I have the knowledge of off grid lifestyle. It'd be fun sure, however you can't put all the blame on us "kids" (I'm 23) if I had been told early on to get a job and save money then perhaps I'd be doing the same thing Kyle is doing. But I'm here stuck with debt and struggling to pay bills on time. Don't say people are just "lazy" money is a huge factor in all of this, sure he spend a few hundred, but he had to buy land and some building materials and tools. I understand it seems easy, but.. money guys, money is a thing you NEED in this day and age. Trust me, I'd rather be doing what he's doing. But considering my family is very judgmental and strict, not sure how to break it to them that i hate what I'm doing with my life. 🤷🏾♀️

Another great accomplishment by Kyle. I get a kick how comfortable your chickens are around you while you are working. I enjoy watching your older videos too.
Looks great! It is nice to see a young person with your energy and work ethic. I was that way 50 years ago. I’m in my 70’s now and my brain still gets me in situations that my body doesn’t agree with. 😊
A trappers cabin was called a "tilt" by old timers in Labrador. Their door and walls were low for easy heating. The wood stove was very crude build and tend to smoked a lot hence the old "smokes like a tilt" saying on bad stoves. Great build and thanks for sharing, enjoyed!
Living in state (CO) where homes prices keep going up by the day, $125 is so appealing. 😁 I enjoying watching your self-reliance and craftsmanship. So looking forward to your winter videos!
Nice job on the cabin, Kyle!! Your Dad should be commended for teaching you the skills to build a cabin! You must have paid attention! You are so talented for being so young. Ceara hit the jackpot hooking up with you, I hope she appreciates you!

Great job Kyle, the chinking and stones really give the cabin a finished look. I'm envious of your drive and energy. I truly enjoy your videos, you do fine work.
The rock foundation looks amazing and the moss chincking is genius, and cost effective. Look forward to the wood stove install. If others wanted to leave the tarp roof they could always purchase a thicker tarp or canvas tarp but not cost effective
Great video Kyle Never knew all the different ways to build cabins Thank you for sharing all the construction of your new cabin Love Skeeter and chickens with you during build Take care and see you soon in next video
Great job Kyle! Simple, solid and useful with style The rock touch was perfect I use white sheets on the inside of my tent (pin them up and change them out yearly) extra layer for keeping heat in and saves on the canvas. No shadows either. Around the stove I pinned up a welding sheet. Looking forward to your next build, watch your top knot
If it were me I’d probably put something down on the dirt floor first - maybe a blue tarp or maybe a layer or two of Tyvek wall wrap. Use landscaping spikes to hold it down at the edges and to keep it from shifting around with regular foot traffic. This would keep things cleaner inside instead of walking around on dirt all the time. It would also act as somewhat of a vapor barrier, which would likely make the interior of the cabin more pleasant during certain periods of the year. This could be done for minimal cost, would provide a good base for spruce boughs if you wanted to use them, and would also make it easy to sweep up inside when you needed to periodically change out the boughs.
We did a small diameter pole floor in a barn when I was a kid. Used logs for joists laid on flat rocks then went after it with a foot adze and leveled it. We used clay mixed with sawdust to fill in where the poles didn’t meet. It supported horses with joists on 3’ or so centers and 4-6” diameter poles.
Looks incredible bro! If I bought an acre of land (~$3000) and built one of these id be able to save money to help other people build these! Thanks for sharing!
We found and reclaimed trailerhome rubber roofing. A place back home that reroofs trailers had piles of them. We used them for covering our woodpiles. Heavy guaged stuff. Double wides were 24' x 40' and they had sections they cut down to whatever size you wanted as one piece.
You're knowledge and your time priceless $125. That's amazing you did an outstanding job and proud of you.🎉🎉🎉😊 You're demeanor and skills are off the charts. You seem to be a great individual.
0:12 you could sell each and any one of those boulders in Western-Europe for more than you probably end up spending on the cabin. Crazy world. Love the vids!
I was in Alta and Hammerfest Northern Norway last winter. While there i stayed in some Sami Camps and they had Spruce bough floors. Awesome, really warm, despite being 110's miles about the Artic Circle and a great smell too lol. Added bonus that when they got old, they just swoped it out. Really, really enjoyed this build from start to finish. Subscribing was a very easy decision. Greetings from the UK.
Simple is usually best. The build is coming along nicely, even at $125. Livable, absolutely, it offers even now what everyone needs, shelter. Great job! Can't wait for more!

Just think in 50 years your grand kids will be hearing stories about how paw paw Kyle build all the family cabins by hand. 🥰
His new grandchild has just been born, he comes to the hospital to meet them.

I'm very surprised chinking hasn't been cancelled yet. If someone on the left See's that word being used ....watch out cause the R word is coming
I personally would like to see a gravel floor that definitely sounds interesting and would be functional for a workshop or guest lodge
