Hey everyone there is someone impersonating me on telegram saying they are going to send gifts to subscribers and asking for personal information. Don’t give away any personal information, it is not me. This has been happening to a lot of other channels as well so be careful.

This is a big problem with a lot of the channels out there. They send a response to chats offering that you have won something and to call a number to claim it. So annoying!! Those aholes have no life other than to be stupid and annoying. I have noticed that the spam emails are increasing too.

This is a good book. Does provide a step by step introduction to how to build things czcams.com/users/postUgkxhgbP-6hUnXu_QRaoHgLztgsI0YF3HqR0 , also does offer some steps. Includes pictures to give you ideas for layouts and such. If you are looking for a guide, this is not exactly what you want. But if you are trying to familiarize yourself with the way that pole barn building and other out buildings, are made, then this will work just as you need it to. A few things in this book are a barn (of course), detached garage, storage building, and coops.

I know of a huge general store building, in Michigan, that was built in 1892. In 2014, they lifted the building to do a major remodel and found it was sitting on cedar stumps...for 124 years!

My previous house, known as a Polish flat, was built in 1900, and all the first floor outer joists and center joists are 8 x 8, sitting on 12 inch diameter cedar posts. I bought it in 1981, and sold it in 2014, and it is still standing, and still lived in today.

Nice job of raising the cabin. You should consider enclosing the space between the cabin and the ground, with either rocks, or panels. Doing so will make the cabin warmer and will keep the critters out of the crawl space. If you really want to keep out the mice, use galvanized hardware cloth stapled to the cabin bottom and then buried a few inches into the ground at the bottom. That will prevent small critters from digging under the enclosed paneling to get under your cabin.

Hey Kyle, That cabin is looking good man! I used to remodel lot's of houses and built new houses also, when we came upon older one level homes we would go underneath and most people always wanted to do something so the new floors wouldn't get so much moisture. You wouldn't believe what I've seen under all the older homes in the crawl space and I've even worked (on old trailers). Most of the mobile homes the floors would have water damage from the moisture They would buck and even have holes in them and it was just horrible. Several times we had to replace all the flooring in them. After we replaced the floors I started putting 6 mil thick black plastic just on top of the ground.underneath the remodel. Never had to go back. I know that it really helped keep moisture from getting back underneath the floors and joists in one level homes. I bought a one level 2 bedroom house and did that to it and to this day 30 years later I haven't had a problem with it. Also vents in the foundation helps keep airflow underneath and if it got cold here in Virginia you could put cover on the vents, of course we don't get the kind of low temps like you do but every little bit helps! Great video on both cabins !

something I learned is that when you put a hollow concrete block directly on the ground like that, it will sink into the soil. I recommend putting a poured concrete footer under the blocks, or at least a solid 1-2" block underneath. This will keep the mud from pushing up inside the center of the block allowing it to sink more easily.
This is what happened to the porch of my cabin...the guy didn't put a footer under my piers on the porch like we did under the cabin, and it sank into the soil.
    Neat cabin!!

Love the way you use what you have and have scavaged good materials. The price of lumber is crazy. I’ve saved and stored lumber for 40 years because I am fairly isolated in the mountains. Twenty years ago we used 2x10s to form in an area for a concrete pour. After stripping out the forms, we cleaned them up and made a picnic table. Twenty years later I hardly use it so for a new project I’m dismantling it for framing. The table is about 10’ long so the pieces will work well. I’ve learned a lot of this from Mexican workers too. They are really good at realizing the re-use of materials. The work looks great Kyle! Good for you!

Took me awhile to get to this one, but glad I finally watched it. That porch sets the whole cabin off - really adds to the overall perspective of the cabin when you see it from the trail.
Nice job on the loft - for strengthening, maybe a couple of cross braces on the stove side and the side wall? Just one diagonal set at an opposite angle from the other side. Also another level brace on the front and back about 4 inches below the platform. You just might be glad for the extra bracing sometime in the future. BTW, the kitten looking out the window was so sweet - you had both canine and feline supervisors! Oh, before I forget -my previous house had a tin ceiling in the lower level - it was built in 1900.

Hey Kyle I bought one of these big yard Garden metal wagons from Tractor Supply holds like a thousand pounds it's got big rubber tires on it absolutely love this thing use it for everything I've called bricks up and down Hills and everything.
I've tied 2x4s to the side of it and I'm even hauled plywood in on it only a couple sheets at a time but it does the job mine several years ago cost like $70 I don't know what they cost anymore but it's got metal mesh sides front and back rubber tires a really long handle and the sides will even fold down

  • @piperlynne1
    @piperlynne1 Před 2 lety +4

Could you use one of those wagons or is the trail too rough to pull one in? The wagon we have will carry over 800lbs. We use it to haul stuff around our yard like gravel, wood, and to carry our car tires in and out of the garage. If we have an large grocery shop we use it to haul the groceries into the back door saving us a bunch of trips. Certain types of wood will last longer than others if you use them on the ground.

I would never put wood right against my cabin. That is the way to invite termites in to eat your place to dust. You need to build a woodshed near to the cabin instead. I would spray your concrete blocks with concrete sealer. If they get wet and freeze they will shatter. I would also put a piece of metal sheeting with the edges bent downward on top of each block stand. This will prevent the termites from crawling up and feasting on the bottom boards. Bending the edges downward prevents them from crawling up the blocks. I would also scatter some diatomaceous earth around the perimeter of the cabin. That will also help keep away the termites. They build mud tunnels so they can move around in the moist dark. Sunlight kills them by drying them out. The earth desiccates the moisture in the body and kills them.

We enjoy your choices & respect your using what you have, for sure! Idea - what about trimming the frame of the loft like you framed the door? It would make it feel more rustic maybe? Skeeter & now the kitten are fun to watch too. Thank you for sharing with us!

It looks great. Every cabin needs a front porch. 😊

Looking good! For the ceiling use cedar fence boards. They are cheap and light. And will keep the rustic look. Easier than carrying in plywood.

Quick porch area, really looks good now to walk up to it and have coffee on in the sun, your new kitten is so cute xxx

For your ceiling, canvas would be easiest to haul and it could be painted if more light is needed. It would continue the rustic look. I love your enthusiasm and boundless energy. Great build.

Concrete Blocks are what you should have started this project with. If not by laying a 1 room basement concrete block Foundation, or a cellar room.

You can get that thin wall paneling and use it for the inside roofing...
