- The #Volkswagen #Jetta has been around for quite some time now, having been first released in 1979 in the throes of the oil crisis, when small cars and efficiency were the order of the day for auto designers. The very first Jetta and every generation afterwards have shared a chassis with the Golf hatchback, opting for a slightly less convenient trunk. Over the years, it’s gotten bigger and more luxurious and now is a decently sized sedan. With the current, sixth generation of the Jetta hanging around since 2011, it was time for a refresh. This time, VW opted for their new MQB platform, which also underpins the Golf and Atlas models.

I also traded my 2016 Passat for this car. At first, before I got used to it, I wasn't all that fond of it. But as time went by, it grew on me to the point where I love it now. The mileage is just what it says. I'm 72 years old and have owned a lot of cars in my life. New and used, but I saw this car in tornado red and was forced to get one. It is a fun car to drive, has power up the wazue and comfortable to ride in long distances trips. It handles really well, corners with almost no lean and when the turbo kicks in it practically pushes you to be back seat. Of all the cars I have owned I have never had so many comments about how great the design is and the over all sporty look. To me though it is the color red that gives it that feel. Looking at the white, it just doesn't look as sleek. I have come out of welcome stations for different states and had people just standing in front of it wanting to know all about it. This isn't your fathers VW. I'd say I average a couple compliments on the looks and design per week.
They did got some really good colors. Orange or red would be "the brightest car" that you can see miles away :D
Great review. Thanks so much.

Good review, I traded in my 2016 Passat for 2019 Jetta R-Line and am quite pleased.
Yes they've done some good job to this newer line-up..
Anyoroblems yet ?
Enjoying my 2019 Jetta S with the 6 speed manual transmission. So far zero issues almost 2 years after purchasing. Weird I didn't think VW would go this long without issues. So far built like a tank. If you are looking at buying a newer car, this should be on your test drive list. Comfortable, durable, peppy 185 lbs of torque. 40+ mpg highway 35+ mixed driving. I can go on and on. Only issue I have so far is I need to use the ebrake when parking on a hill even if I leave it in reverse or in any gear. It rolls even when I put in a gear and walk away, I absolutely need to use the ebrake when parking the vehicle.
Yes. We've noticed that on some model and we just did 2020 Golf review that you will see in a few week on our channel were handbrake was extremely sensitive. We drove it in SF and it was a bit challenging getting stuck uphill and playing with 6-speed manual.
Acuravigor47 you should use your e-brake when parking on a hill always..
Nice

I'm a little confused. You mentioned there's only 1 USB port, the ones I've looked at have 2. One of them is in the sidearm compartment. Is it an over-sight, or are there different Jetta features for every country? Makes me wonder what else is different in this review.
On on front - did you found any other USB somewhere else?

I recently just traded my 2013 CC R-line in for one of these and boy was that I mistake. My CC had been giving me some issues so swapping it out for something New seemed like an awesome idea. I didn't have much cash to put down at the moment and I still had a little bit left on the back end of the CC. What that being the case I was told that the 2019 Jetta R-line was the only thing that would work for the deal to happen. So I foolishly took the deal but tried to return the car after a week of getting a good feel for it. Basically the car is really light weight and Small, and doesn't give you a solid feel which my CC offered. It's also unbelievably slow and 1.4T Engine that it has is a major downgrade coming from the 2.0T. The 17inch Rims and tires don't help either, the wind feels like it's gonna blow the car away on the Highway and the standard audio system is a joke. Moral of the story I'm Now stuck with well equipped collage kids car for the next 2 or 3 years.😡😡😡
Jetta has always been an entry lever VW car. CC was higher than Passat, so it's hard to imagine you would love Jetta after driving a bigger CC.
Whats up with that stop sign @5.26? Why is it facing the wrong direction?
Because Chicago...
it's so quiet, the only thing you will hear is your transmission via the torque converter give off these loud breathing/grinding sounds at low rpm
So that's what that sound is..it's really annoying
Don't have that problem in my new 19 Jetta. I have the S trim with the 6 speed manual transmission. I have an issue most ppl do not have, rev hang... Besides this one issue, it's a great car, get the base model for a dependable DD commuter. Just put on some Uniroyal Tiger Paw Ice and Snow 3 winter tires. It's great in the deep snow and ice we just got here in Seattle. Good job VW! This new Jetta is a true winner.

It's not normal. It's a grind coming from the torque converter that VW just refuses to fix. I bought a M/T mostly because of this reason, and couldn't have loved it more!

Those tires suck shit big time I just got 2019 1.4t spins those tires easy first thing I did is jump 18s 245/45/ handles amazing now big difference with ecu flash turn to whole different car pulls so hard now
Yes they did save on the tires. We front was losing the grip every single time you put your right foot to the floor.
I worry about plastic engine parts
That's a good one lol.
Unreliable. I bought it two months ago. Already the panel broke off and had to have it repaired. The brakes make this awful sound which the dealership said is normal. Maybe for a 10 year old car it is. I'll post a video of the sound later.
And for all you new owners, there's a recall already with a "sealant.". Guess water leaks in. 3 dealership trips in less than 2 months what a mistake :(
