What guarantee we have that password managers will keep our passwords safe?

Show them your Glock 17 and they'll be sure to keep your passwords safe.

The real question is what happens when you reinstall Windows or have a HDD failure lol ".....So err, what's my amazon password again, since I didn't chose it and the program that gave it to me is long gone?!"

It's not gone. The passwords are stored in LastPass' database, not on your PC. Note they do not store your password as plaintext; it's encrypted or hashed.

Storing your many passwords in a single database is stupid though since the passwords are incredibly long chances are cracking the hashes will most likely result in a failed attempt, but that doesn't mean that it cannot be cracked.. I have mixed feelings about this idea

Your argument makes no sense. Passwords have to stored somewhere and best be hashed. That's how everyone does it and of course it's not 100% secure, but it takes a LOT of work; that's the point. Secondly, how is this relevant to single-database storage being bad?
I agree centralised data is bad, but the reason is because of single-point failure. I may have been mistakened but LastPass probably has a decentralised database; the idea is to help HenryMania understand is that passwords aren't stored on your PC, it's somewhere else.

Use an alphanumeric password and the longer, the better.
