  • Today I'm having a GAS with Rory Sutherland... Rory is the vice-chairman of Ogilvy UK and the author of 'Alchemy: The Surprising Power of Ideas That Don't Make Sense'.
We discuss topics including; Creative processes, checklists and scarcity, the economic placebo effect, film, the power of colour, heat pumps, sludge content, how marketing makes great products not the other way around, music genres, nervous fliers, CZcams premium, flexible working, housing, combined incomes and plenty more!
Having a GAS™ is the podcast that talks to the great and the good of the creative industries, and in particular finds out what makes great music for film, for TV, for advertising; for dancing to, for cooking to, f*cking to, and more...
GAS™ Music is a music production agency in Manchester, UK. We compose and produce original music, create awe inspiring sound design and have a fully integrated audio post-production studio. We also have a great record collection, and welcome any additions, recommendations or criticisms.

Totally agree with Rory about air source heat pumps being absolute madness. Air conditioning units that are heaters would be perfect in a room or 2 and keep the boiler. Airsource heat pumps are expensive, complicated, few engineers know how they work, have to be subsidised, have to be serviced yearly. Bulgaria is hotter than UK in summer and colder in winter. Yet Bulgarians use the air conditioning units that reverse to heaters (are cheap to buy and install) that Rory is talking about. No Bulgarian is stupid enough to destroy their heating system to put in an air source heat pump. And even the Bulgarian government has more common sense than the British Government on this and many other areas. Bring back Rory Stewart, the politician. Thank you Rory - you are brilliant. Our government is making Britains poorer.

I don’t know who the interviewer is. But he’s incredible. It felt like watching All In Podcast where all sides are equally as knowledgeable.

I'm with him on the working at home. I have a 58" 4k TV which I only use as a monitor. It's brilliant. I can have multiple windows open and everything is still visible. When I go to the office it is so uncomfortable, way less productive, and I'm not allowed to wear my dressing gown.
Interesting chap, Rory, and quite jolly. Nice interview.

Same here! I use a 49 inch curved ultrawide screen for work (and gaming, I admit) - I feel like I am IN the PowerPoints 😅 working on a flat screen at work seems strange 😂

Feel the need to point out. Yellow exists )and so does magenta its purple that doesn’t exist small difference but important.) yellow just doesn’t exist on a screen. There’s absolutely yellow light.

The small screens on phones versus larger TVs is the wrong comparison.
If you remember, during the 90's nokia and ericsson competed for ever smaller phones. Then came a larger touchscreen. So the specific category of products got a massively larger screen, relatively - not absolutely. Try walking around with a 100 inch TV. Hmm, a new product type - the 110 inch tablet motorized cart for welshmen.
