To those bemoaning the fact that democrats didn't take the senate, i get it, but bear in mind that only 35/100 seats were up for reelection and 42 republican seats were not up for election this year at all. All blue victory in Michigan with all three proposals being approved as well. Just glad we got The House back.

LeoFan93 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽🇺🇸🌊
Yes! Also we need to keep up the pressure on our government and to keep fighting.
I wouldn't say this is a small victory. Taking 220 seats at the house of representatives is a huge deal. You can ask Trumps voters about it. They've been raving about it ever since Hillary one the popular vote yet didn't take office.
There was a lot of good that came about from this election. Florida voted to give felons the right to vote. That's more than a million people who can now vote who were prevented from doing so because of mostly drug convictions. This will make it much more difficult for Republicans to win senate seats and the electorate just got much more blue in the biggest swing state in the US. Beto came within a few points of winning in Texas which is crazy. Many states got Dem Governors which will make it much harder to gerrymander after the 2020 census. There is plenty to be happy about tonight
Those governor races are *super* important in the South, considering that in 2020, we're redrawing state districts. And we've seen how much Republicans love gerrymandering in the South...
Actually for that, what matters is STATE LEGISLATURE seats. Each state congress draws its district maps.
@@LackeysLack yes, they are the ones actually drawing the districts, but the state governor are the people who approve the final map, so they are definitely a key part in gerrymandering as well.
A dem governor could reject maps that appear to be gerrymandered.
Everyone loves Gerrymandering. I'm democratic and I can safely say that it's done by both parties without shame.
If there’s one thing Floridians can take from this vote is restoration of voting rights for people who have served their time.
@@borisindigo5593 yes, both parties have done their fair share, but Republicans are much more notable for how blatantly discriminatory it is to minorities and how routinely they do it after every census year and the amount of places they've done it.

Beto should have beaten Beta!
I’m from CA and I honestly thought that Beto had a chance. I guess Texas blew it, he seemed reasonable.
@Moon Watcher That and..... voting machines flipping votes.
He got elected because many people in Texas don’t even think about their choice, but simply vote Republican no matter what. I’m pretty sure a rapist or a pedophile could win in Texas as long as he’d be Republican.
I can't believe Texas re-elected Ted Cruz. I just can't imagine placing a pencil on the ballot and choosing Cruz to go to the Senate for 6 more years. Even if you couldn't vote for O'Rourke how could you possibly vote for that horrible Cruz. TX is officially on my shit-list as is and has been FL, and I'm in NC for crying out loud which is also of course on the list!
Can you believe that Texas gerrymandered, voter suppressed and rigged the voting machines to such an extent that they could ensure Ted Cruz's re-election? 'Cuz, y'know, if there's anything following this election has taught me, then it's that the Republicans have gone so far as to take away the American people's democracy... and for some reason, the American people are just bending over and _letting them._ Understandable enough if you're a Republican, I suppose, but even the Democrats do it. Why?
@@GrahamChapman Isn't it individual voters who choose the governor? No electoral college in-between the voter and the chosen person. Gerrymandering doesn't figure into it in other words.
I love Texas. We like are rights not restriction. I'd rather vote anybody but O'ROURKE, here in Texas rights mean more to me then anything else. Someone like O'ROURKE makes me want to vote even more, so we don't have someone like him anywhere in government. All this talk of suppression and rigged vote n is complete stupidity and ingnorance. Anybody who believes in this flat earth type false fact conspiracy is both, stupid and ignorant.
@@0ooTheMAXXoo0 Gerrymandering: I don't think that means what you think it means. Gerrymandering does not mean electoral college. Gerrymandering is when district lines are manipulated in very weird ways in order to favor one party.
I voted for Beto. I think he won in the big cities but not in the country. I can't believe anyone would vote for Cruz either but people vote straight party.
I am not American - but I am proud of the US this morning! Pity about Beto, but maybe Cruz will have the "Trump effect" and make it harder for Republicans to win in 2020 by showing how government should NOT be done.

The sad part is that this IS the wave we all wanted. Democratic candidates all in all received a bigger share of votes than the republicans did in 2010 when they got like 60 house seats and 6 senate seats. However because republicans have gerrymandered house districts to favor them to an extreme extend, and the fact that every state regardless of population size gets 2 senators(which favors republicans), democrats flip way less positions than republicans, despite actually doing better in terms of actual votes. I honestly dunno what democrats can do about it :/

Sounds nice. The problem here is the Right doesn't want it to be easy to vote. Photo ID requirements, purging voters who haven't voted for a few years, denying applications that don't match exactly, disqualifying voters if their name is similar to the name of a felon, butterfly ballots, hanging chads, voter machines that don't refresh quickly enough to be accurate, crummy old voting equipment, fewer machines in polling places where they think they won't do well...They're even happy when the weather is bad on Election Day so the turnout will be low. As a Texan, 18 year old, and first time voter I was so happy to see other “freaking millennials” in line the first chance we got to vote early.
Just know that everytime “millennials and their video games” got blamed for poor gun control, everytime “millenials and their phones” got blamed for the housing market, and everytime millenials really get blamed for anything... thousands of these apparent “serial screwups” remembered that before we casted our first vote
Just FYI, if you're 18 years old, meaning you were born in 2000, you're not a millennial. Millennials are those born between 1981-1996 (aka those old enough to experience the turn of the Millennium). A millennial will now be 21 at the very youngest and will turn 22 before the end of this year.
@Michael Anderson Nope, the official definition has always been the same. Generations tend to be roughly 16 years apart - 1996 marked the start of a new generation (the "snowflake" generation, I believe, is their derogatory name; Generation Z is their official name). You're right about the second part though - it just irks me when people apply "millennial" as a "catch-all" for, as you say, *anyone* under 40.
The definition of millenials I was refering to was the same as the one Michael Anderson used. But I see your point, I was taught that the millenial generation starts around late 90s and goes until late 2000s. Although I’ve heard other definitions say that the millenials stop at 1999, 1996, or 1998. I chose to define myself as a millenial as I’ve been called that before myself.
Your Generation Z.
@Michael Anderson That's because "millenial" is the unofficial derogatory name of the generation, like Generation Z now being dubbed "the snowflake generation" or Gen. X being "the MTV generation". Officially, millenials are known as Generation Y.

@@mollyrae2464 " They should stay where they are and be safe" People who are fleeing for their lives from terrorism, from gangs, from oppressive regimes, don't have that option. It is not so bad here at all; only the people who are afraid of refugees and migrants, and those who profit from generating that fear, are making it an issue.
So you're just going to bend over and take the gerrymandered and voter suppressed results, is that it? You're not going to protest the results produced by voting machines that are so unreliable that even an 11-year-old child can hack them? You're not going to at least _try_ to get the UN involved with the fact that your human right to have actually democratic elections screwed over? Why?
So disappointed in Georgia, Florida and Texas!!!
If there's anything I've learned about American politics, it's to never pin your election hopes on Florida.

I kinda expected FOX coverage to just be anchors running around screaming, with their hair on fire, and occasionally pleadingly wailing at the camera.

OMG , it's Captain Archer! I SALUTE YOU SIR!
the world thanks you. greetings from Slovenia
As a European i am a little disappointed. Yes i am happy with the dems winning the house but how is this possible with the senate votes. Texas and Florida? They were the better candidates and yet they did not win..Disappointing.
I was hoping for that blue wave and it did not happend as much as i'd liked. Now (sadly) i am more convinced that he will win in 2020 and that is just awful. The only thing that calms me down (a bit) is that i am not an American...It helps...a lill.
Haven't you heared about all the gerrymandering, voter suppression and rigged/"malfunctioning" voting machines? 'Cuz, you know, that probably has at least a wee little bit to do with how it was possible for the Republicans to win... Basically, there _was_ a blue wave. A massive one even. But Republicans have rigged the system so much in their favor that it cannot really be called democratic any longer... and, honestly, I think the fact that the Democrats accepted Trump's so-called "victory" back in 2016, despite the fact that he actually lost the popular vote with 3.000.0000 votes, is a lot more discouraging in regards to the prospect of getting him out of the WH by 2020 than the results of this election was...
The truth is that senate elections are not particularly democratic. Votes cast for senate races went 56 % to Democrats and 41 % to Republicans. In an actually democratic election that would have been a bad thrashing, but because of how the seats are distributed the clear losers of the popular vote actually gained seats. In any case, although the Republicans will spin it this way, the senate results are by no means a vindication of their policies - it's in fact a clear sign of disapproval by the electorate.
Also, not to forget, besides gaining the majority in the house, Democrats also made lots of gains in state legislatures and flipped seven governorships. So, although the senate results taint the optics, the voters have given a clear sign against the Republicans.
@@Callidous Thank you for explaining that for me...As a European it is a bit mind boggling so thank you.
unless you want your European country to have an African leader, don't fucking lecture us about not electing a black governor
@@GrahamChapman There were also only 35 of the 100 Senate seats up for grab this time around versus the entire House of Rep. being up for grabs. Most of those Senate seats already belonged to Democrats too so it was more like they were fighting to maintain those seats AND the very few competitive seats occupied by the Republicans.
*LOVE* the photobomb!
"...sending shockwaves through the sexy community" killed me. 😂
Thank God!!! Now I can rest and ENJOY my THANKSGIVING Dinner!
Congrats DEMOCRATS for get back the house..!
The Republicans still hold the senate. That means they can still nominate judges so suck on that!
@@desertsand8778 Yeah, that's about the level of Team Trump cult "thinking".
Desert Sand ... The judges they’ve appointed definitely suck. Not just for SCOTUS.
@Alex Mullins do that and you'll seal the fate of your party not winning in 2020. Democrats need to be more moderate, behave themselves...then beat Trump and then they can go more radical once in power again.
@@UnknownUnknown-tu3be Yeah, appeasement works great. Just look at the history books!

Still think Cruz, and king cheated
Krista Wilson what... Tf
That's definatly seems like a possibility in GA, and I hope Abrams goes for a runoff/lawsuit. Simply the fact that trump was stuck playing defense in senate/gubernatorial races (which the GOP had a numerical and geographical advantage in) was an achievement.
100%
@Luigi's Mansion 3 good point, maybe the democrats problem is being a looser complaining about a 'rigged' system should be done DURING the campaign like trump did.
It's not too surprising Texas voted Republican.. cmon.
Don't think I've ever been this early to anything.
I have....😐
The last time I was that early....I had a kid.

@@michaelthompson7081 Funny how you suddenly care so much about accusations. What were you saying when Kavanaugh was accused of attempted rape?
@@WeDeserveBetterNow I said "Donald John should nominate Amy Coney Barrett and have the FBI investigate these allegations." Verbatim. Now what I find funny is how you responded to my "Democrat Bob Menendez who is indicted for corruption and accused of underage prostitution has defeated Bob Hugin.

And then tried to deflect with "Well you probably didn't care when Christine Blasey Ford made accusations." Do you see how pathetic you are? The fact that Colbert's audience cheered enthusiastically for Manchin, is kind of disturbing.
Even worse, cheering for Bob Menendez who is on trial for prostitution. That was super awkward! Sry Democrats, you guys are as sick as the Republicans.
@@JustLatino the fact that Colbert joked about Mendez's character shows that he's not about to suspend reality for the sake of politics. And that is FAAAAR beyond what the GOP is willing to do.
I know right
You realize they saw the D and assumed it was a victory for us. Nobody knows who Manchin is
Bunch of sheep. "Oh look a D! Cheer! Cheer! Oh wait hes a crummy human being. Oh we will make excuses for this crummy human because he has a D next his name. But not others."

I can't believe Desantis won...
It’s Florida.
Can you believe he got gerrymandered, voter suppressed and voted through by easily hacked, rigged/"malfunctioning" voting machines, all of it put into place by a political party that's not interested in respecting the democratic voting system?
I really don't believe all votes were counted. There are some left that get counted later this week. Very few. But I doubt that will happen. 😖
