      There was a lot of good that came about from this election. Florida voted to give felons the right to vote. That's more than a million people who can now vote who were prevented from doing so because of mostly drug convictions. This will make it much more difficult for Republicans to win senate seats and the electorate just got much more blue in the biggest swing state in the US. Beto came within a few points of winning in Texas which is crazy. Many states got Dem Governors which will make it much harder to gerrymander after the 2020 census. Democratic candidates all in all received a bigger share of votes than the republicans did in 2010 when they got like 60 house seats and 6 senate seats. However because republicans have gerrymandered house districts to favor them to an extreme extend, and the fact that every state regardless of population size gets 2 senators(which favors republicans), democrats flip way less positions than republicans, despite actually doing better in terms of actual votes. I honestly dunno what democrats can do about it :/

As it is though, those are just assertions you are making; I cannot be sure they are true (or false) merely by reading your message. I will research the issue and see what I can find.
      As for the tax returns, I'm not claiming that either I or the public at large have professional-level expertise in analyzing tax return documents. But that doesn't change that by not revealing them, Trump is failing to live up to the same standard as the past several Presidents have. And not only that, he stated that he would release them, and yet he hasn't. I think it's fair to criticize his lack of personal integrity in this regard.
      (Source: Transcript of first 2016 general election Trump v. Clinton debate, moderated by NBC's Lester Holt, at Hofstra University on September 26th 2016)
      "Lester Holt: Mr. Trump, we're talking about the burden that Americans have to pay, yet you have not released your tax returns. And the reason nominees have released their returns for decades is so that voters will know if their potential president owes money to -- who he owes it to and any business conflicts. Don't Americans have a right to know if there are any conflicts of interest?
      Donald Trump: I don't mind releasing -- I'm under a routine audit. And it'll be released. And -- as soon as the audit's finished, it will be released."

      Just FYI, if you're 18 years old, meaning you were born in 2000, you're not a millennial. Millennials are those born between 1981-1996 (aka those old enough to experience the turn of the Millennium). A millennial will now be 21 at the very youngest and will turn 22 before the end of this year.

    • @overlydramaticpanda

      @Michael Anderson Nope, the official definition has always been the same. Generations tend to be roughly 16 years apart - 1996 marked the start of a new generation (the "snowflake" generation, I believe, is their derogatory name; Generation Z is their official name). You're right about the second part though - it just irks me when people apply "millennial" as a "catch-all" for, as you say, *anyone* under 40.

    As a European i am a little disappointed. Yes i am happy with the dems winning the house but how is this possible with the senate votes. Texas and Florida? They were the better candidates and yet they did not win..Disappointing.
    I was hoping for that blue wave and it did not happend as much as i'd liked. Now (sadly) i am more convinced that he will win in 2020 and that is just awful. The only thing that calms me down (a bit) is that i am not an American...It helps...a lill.

    • @GrahamChapman
      @GrahamChapman Před 5 lety +14

      Haven't you heared about all the gerrymandering, voter suppression and rigged/"malfunctioning" voting machines? 'Cuz, you know, that probably has at least a wee little bit to do with how it was possible for the Republicans to win... Basically, there _was_ a blue wave. A massive one even. But Republicans have rigged the system so much in their favor that it cannot really be called democratic any longer... and, honestly, I think the fact that the Democrats accepted Trump's so-called "victory" back in 2016, despite the fact that he actually lost the popular vote with 3.000.0000 votes, is a lot more discouraging in regards to the prospect of getting him out of the WH by 2020 than the results of this election was...

    • @Callidous
      @Callidous Před 5 lety +12

      The truth is that senate elections are not particularly democratic. Votes cast for senate races went 56 % to Democrats and 41 % to Republicans. In an actually democratic election that would have been a bad thrashing, but because of how the seats are distributed the clear losers of the popular vote actually gained seats. In any case, although the Republicans will spin it this way, the senate results are by no means a vindication of their policies - it's in fact a clear sign of disapproval by the electorate.
      Also, not to forget, besides gaining the majority in the house, Democrats also made lots of gains in state legislatures and flipped seven governorships. So, although the senate results taint the optics, the voters have given a clear sign against the Republicans.
