And when he crosses his arms across his chest, he somehow manages to miss the mark on looking cool, collected, and tough and instead looks like a pouting toddler hugging himself.

I remember when Obama lost the house, and the Republican speaker at the time said that the primary goal of Congress was to obstruct anything proposed by the sitting President. It was disgusting to see the focus of Congress was to force gridlock, to dismiss all ideas that came from the executive, and to refuse to work together to find common ground and solutions. One only needs to examine what years of work by the Republican congress achieved when they finally had the opportunity to propose a health care plan that was better. They looked around as if to say, 'nobody said that was going to be on the test!'. Now fast forward to the Trump situation, and the shoe is on the other foot. As much as it is tempting to do the same thing to Trump, bigger minds need to rise to the occasion. Politicians come and go, but the great ones are those who prove themselves capable of making lasting change even in the face of adversity.

The issue about wanting the other side to take a moral high road right now is that they would be up against someone who doesn't work that way. they can take that road, and get run over anyways because neither Trump or McConnell care about morals. If either of them had been a football coach, they would have someone break the leg of the star player for the other team, because then they'd win.

We had a good day in Colorado. Jared Polis is our new governor. Our new Attorney General, Phil Weiser, will fight the trump administration like a bulldog. Democrats took control of the legislature. We passed two separate fair redistricting amendments, for congressional and state districts. And we flipped one congressional seat, making Dems the majority of our representatives in Congress.

Our healthcare system of "insurance" is so twisted and perverse it's insane. It's really something to think that it could be as simple as: you have a problem, you call a doctor up and come see them. That's it, done.

I'm from Saint Louis, Missouri and I hate the fact that my state is Republican. At least St. Louis is always Democrat but the nearly everywhere else in MO goes red.
It does seem that even in "red states" the cities will be undoubtedly more "blue" and more liberal, just because the Democratic party tends to favor more poc and other minorities, like gender and sexuality ones. That's what happens when you're exposed to more different kinds of people, rather than just the same twenty white people in your rural town.

I just woke up, it's just before 8 in the UK, and rather than my normal thing of putting the breakfast news on, I reckoned that Seth would break the news with humour instead (I had my fingers crossed for you guys all night!). I have an American niece and nephew. I've (and obviously hubby's entire family has) spent the last two years worried sick about them. Before anyone says "birthright!" (which itself is no reassurance now) their NC "ex-dad" - a GOP waste of oxygen, probable Trumptard and refuser-to-pay their health insurance since the youngest was a toddler - is so "flag-waving American" he knows three countries. His own, England because my sis is from there - not sure he's fully aware of the other nations in the UK - and the Netherlands where he once "popped over" for a trip with his mates, only to be disappointed that foreigners couldn't buy pot legally at the time.
Mercifully they have a lovely new "American Dad", but once bitten, my sister-in-law is officially staying single. Her kids are her focus (along with the job that took her there 30 years ago). She's had no idea whether she'd be allowed to stay these last two years despite taking citizenship. It's been that crazy. Her ex is so spiteful he may have tried to get her kicked out though she's never got so much as a speeding ticket. For the first time since that piece of slime slid into the White House, we feel like we can exhale.
And the rest of the world thanks you for your attempts, your *hard work* to regain some level of sanity in government. Please continue with this fervour to the next general election and beyond. America, whether you like it at an individual level or not, has put itself as the world's "leading democracy". Look at your post-war presidents (though I should include FDR who is recognised for his service to the devastated depression era Americans, and help against the Nasis with great respect), especially 1960 on, and you'll find that in the majority of cases, the presidents who have the best influence on getting the majority of the world on your side are Democrats. It's definitely true of the developed world, and we're the ones who back you up financially and militarily the most (we're the ones with the money and guns, no brainer). We don't *want* to stop being your allies, but it's impossible to remain so close with such a lunatic in charge.
