    One of the projects I did with my dad as a kid was replace the external secondary mk2 fuel pump. All rusty, stripping’ bolts and cursing. Good times!

    Hi. I love your channel and your passion. I am a fellow mk1 fanatic with a very small channel all the way from sunny South Africa. The mk1 were produced all the way up to 2009, I stand to be corrected. It will be really cool to chat to you on all the SA variants.

    Need to get a vacuum purge coolant refill tool...life changer for refilling coolant systems. Can't tell for sure which coolant was used, but g12 pink would be my suggestion.

    Amen brother...the devils in the details. Bit of a greasy move from the seller of the tank to not include the rubber gasket. It's something that you don't know until you've gone through the process of buying all the parts to do a swap... but things like missing or broken key components when you're buying off back yard car dismantlers can be super frustrating. If you can, buy things from a reputable wrecker so that you can go back and get the piece replaced or your money back when the parts doesn't work or it's missing things. Rant over - As always, great content R!

      Absolutely! Totally agree... Only problem is most pick n pulls or wreckers drill holes in the tanks to drain them. Need to grab 2nd hand tanks from someone parting one. Love the support. thanks so much!! Cheers

      @@MysteryGarage Ya for sure...I forgot about that. That's a government regulation I think. All fluids have to be drained from the car before they get placed in the yards for part out. They could pump the gas out with a suction pump but they don't bother to take the time. Drilling a hole in the bottom is easier I guess.

    Great episode, man! I’m getting closer to starting my own Mk2 vr6 swap. I think that I’ve decided on a 3.2 for mine. 🤘🤘🤘

      Try to snag the engine from the early Touareg. The 3.2 in those are the same as R32 but for 70% less.

  • @87mustang347

    Getting ready to do a vr6 swap from an mk4, to an mk1. Are those gas tanks interchangeable the same way the mk2-mk3 one is?

    • @MysteryGarage
      @MysteryGarage  Před 2 lety

      Awesome question, mk1’s tanks are specifically Mk1. Not much else swaps into them without serious changes that wouldn’t be worth it. Mk4 tanks also differ from 2/3’s as well. But I love that engine swap!!! Good luck! Let me know how it turn out, cheers!

    Two questions related to your work in this episode: Do you know is is possible to get rid of the secondary pump on MK1? Does anybody make plastic thanks for mk1?

    • @MysteryGarage
      @MysteryGarage  Před 2 lety

      Secondary pump on a Mk1? Well I guess it depends on where you are in the world and what year your car is but we never had secondary pumps in a mk1, nor any plastic tanks that I’m aware of! Thanks for watching! Appreciate the support! Cheers
