    When an actor can't turn up on set on time and do the basic requirement of their job, whilst everyone else around them does so, speaks level of their character as a human being. Tom Cruise, like him or not, like his movies or not, is one of the hardest working people on set. He shows up. He puts a lot of these diva actors (who should be the ones who are irrelevant) to shame with his work ethic.

    Talk about a serious case of projection. Mickey Rourke thought his career was back on track after the Wrestler got so many accolades. And then he just went back into being a has-been again.
    Side note: I'm surprised "A Few Good Men" keeps getting overlooked when talking about Tom Cruise's great performances. People always mention Born on the 4th of July, Magnolia, Jerry Maguire, Collateral etc. But holding your own against Jack Nicholson as an antagonist of the film requires serious acting chops. A lesser actor as the protagonist would've been outshone in the most important scene of the film, which would hurt the film's overall quality. But in that finale where it was just courtroom banter between Tom Cruise and Jack Nicholson, Tom Cruise showed that he was indeed an actor capable of rising to the level of the best legends to ever grace a film set.

I can’t think of any bad Tom Cruise film, I think his worst reviewed film in recent times was The Mummy but I still liked it. Is he the best actor of my generation I say yes he is. When I saw the first trailer for Top Gun Maverick I went crazy and was excited to go back to the cinema and see a no-superhero movie, a movie that had a soundtrack as well. Every time a new film of Tom Cruise comes out I want to go see it, the mission impossible franchise is massive because Tom Cruise owns it, I can see the new one talking £1b next year. He can say whatever he wants about Tom, but Cruise is maybe the biggest movie star of all time with more 100M dollar domestic movies than any actor in history. His latest movie is on its way to cracking the top 10 highest grossing domestic releases of all time. That's the defintion of "relevance." Plus he's been nominated for 3 Oscars, which is two more than Rourke has so it's not like he can't act either.

Rourke has some Oscar-worthy performances, but then again, so does Cruise, and only one of them is still topping box office charts four decades into their career. • @DMKelly20
    @DMKelly20 Před 2 lety +3

    First of all, I think Mickey Rourke has the potential to give absolutely extraordinary performances. His work in the 80's, his one-scene performance in "The Pledge" (which is one of the best bit-part performances I've seen from anyone), and his performance in "The Wrestler" are nothing, absolutely NOTHING, to slouch at, though I think he's unfortunately gotten really bad at burning bridges when it comes to making comebacks, because I'd love to see a lasting Rourke comeback. And I think it really says something when Elia Kazan, director of acting masterclasses like "A Streetcar Named Desire" and "On The Waterfront", says that Mickey Rourke's Actor's Studio monologue in the early 80's was the best one he'd seen in a good 30 years. Unfortunately, I think Mickey, in all the years he's been at work in the business, hasn't learned much in the way of class and diplomacy, which is very sad to me. Not to mention the fact that I think he's dead wrong here. Cruise's work in "Born On The Fourth of July", "Collateral", ESPECIALLY "Magnolia" (one of my all-time favorite acting performances), and numerous other works, not to mention that hard work, dedication, and intensity Cruise brings to everything he does, show his skill as a performer. I just wish Rourke would learn that he can have opinions while learning to be more diplomatic and classy at the same time.
