I just had the same thing happen to me 3 days ago. It was to expensive for it to just break after a couple months. Tonight I’m going to smash it.
I switched to , 2 , 60 gallon sponge filters in all my tanks. Some have power heads hooked up others just the air hose. It’s so so nice. To clean. Dip rinse and go.

I dont know anybody who hasnt had this problem. The issue isnt actually mechanical. Its of a different magnitude. Literally. Its a demagnetization issue. Now i noticed on this video you had two of them side by side. Do you regularly have the two filters like that? And do you ever have any other electrical wires? Anytime a magnetized motorized impellor submerged in a casing that isnt depolarized surrounded by water that itself conducts electrical movement then you get over time a loas in magnetization. Ie. You lose the strength of the magnet in the impellor housing. Since the impellor is positively magnetized and the housing is negatively magnetized the housing is the weaker of the two polarizations. So after a time which is variable the impellor no longer hoovers in the casing and hits the housing structure and is jammed. When your banging it your actually reatomizing the neurons that are in the housing magnet. You can actually fix it if you look up any. Info on remagnetizing a demagnetized magnet. I hope this helps. If you need more help hmu on my facebook. You now have me on your page so you got my info. :)

Adore 🥰 a good rant! I have three or four Tetra filters. One on my coral tank for a couple years now. So far no issues with any of them 🤞. It sounds as if there is debris in the impeller casing? Thanks Scott you never disappoint. WORD: I love Tidals but Scott don’t get the 35 size. I have Tidals on every tank and the only size I’ve had issues with are the 35.

I feel you there, when I do a water change and take it down too far or not unplugging my 55/7/, it will stop or not start up after a power outage. I take a wooden skewer and remove the intake and stick that up in there and give the impeller a spin. I don't have the issue keeping the power cord in the slot as mine stays in tight. Its a pain to get the motor housing to clip in the box its self. Great video, but then again I don't have fish in my tank look at my fingers likes a treat.

Luckily the one I got last year works pretty well. The problem I have is that if I unplug the filter for whatever reason it stops working and I have to work my best to get it back up and running. I’ve found that typically I can pour water in the back and get it running but today before school I went to move the plug so I could plug my camera battery in (I’m in holland so I’m going to take pictures of the tulips) and I realized I screwed up when I realized it was the filter and I had to put in an emergency aerator and when I get home from school in 3 and a half hours. I have a bonus sponge filter in there and lots of live plants so my fish will be fine but I am so mad about this.

When mines stick I clean the propeller out, pull the bottom part of pump off and pull propeller out with tweezers. The rod should be clean and maybe using a toothpick clean the inside of the propellers rod chamber?

The Italian made versions by Aqeuon when they first launched them where great filters! The multiple newer versions have lots of issues and need lots of TLC to run. To be honest I took down the two I had a replaced with a SeaChem Tidal and Marineland Emperor Pro Filter.
I prefer the SeaChem as I love filters with the pumps in the water versus the bottom of the filter.

I have an Aqueon 20 that came with my Aqueon 20 gallon tank kit. I am brand new to this hobby. I just got my tank cycled and have added 2 Honey Groomies. The filter is dead quit. The only sound is the water fall coming out. I love that about it. I'm always checking to see if it is still running lol. What I don't like is how little space there is inside to add extra sponges and media. I'm with you, if I have to replace it at some point I will most likely switch to the Seachem Tital.

  • @sondercichlidaquariums4951

That would normally suggest a faulty impeller, plus if you use sand you should be using a intake sponge as a few grains of sand will cause grooves in the impeller body which stops it making contact with the impeller shaft as it should. I've had it with eheim classics , I've never been a fan of hob filters, only tried the the seachem tidal 75 and it was ok ish except for the surface skimmer would suck up big amounts of air as soon as a couple millimetres of water would evaporate. I've always preferred canister filters due to the bio capacity. Hope you and Liz are well 😉👍

Have this exact filter in the thumbnail, willing to prove on insta, I constantly have to pull the intake tube up and down to clear the prop of debris. It stops completely. Then the flow resumes to normal. Absolutely inconvenient. At least twice a week. So glad you addressed this because it's a constant problem of mine.

  • @tropicnightmare1498
    @tropicnightmare1498 Před 3 lety +3

Sounds like you lost the little black plastic bearing that seats the impeller shaft. When you pull the housing apart to inspect the impeller they fall out easily.
If this is the case it's probably buried in your substrate. This is exactly what happened to mine.
Also I used aquarium silicone to bond the clip part of the motor housing to the filter itself, which seemed to fix the falling off problem.
Aqueon really needs a 2.0 version of these filters.

  • @Scrub_Zero

I've had similar issues with the aqueon HOB filters, but they're also just about the cheapest filters around. I've actually had catastrophic failures with more expensive HOB filters in less than a year of use so....I switched to all canisters and never looked back. Yeah its an expense at first but the peace of mind is worth a couple hundred dollars to me. Canisters aren't fool proof but they've been way more reliable for me than HOB filters. I think the manufacturers are just making the HOB's too cheaply and they just kinda all suck these days (the aquaclear included)

  • @madturtle8826

Lol at the cichlid. I had one of those on my 20 gallon and it worked fine. Why don’t you just get new filters? I have been using Aquaclear HOB for years and I love them. The only thing that I don’t like about them is the fact that they aren’t self priming. Other than that, mine are quiet and work great. I always use a pre filter sponge too and that helps keep the impeller running smooth.

so sorry you're having troubles. I had a smaller one one time that I kept having to take the intake and rattle it around to get the magnetic mechanism of the impeller to start working again. Truly aggravating and I'm very thankful I didn't have an attack fish in my tank 🤣

🤔 Seachem Tidal 55 and 110. Also Marineland 275 and I also have been using the Aqua-Tech 30-60 which is the Walmart version of the Marineland filters. They are the same filter minus that bio-wheel used on the Marineland filters. They use the same cartridges and media baskets.
The Tidal 55s are on my 29 gallon tanks. The Tidal 110’s are on my 55’s and 75’s. The Marineland /Aqua-Tech filters on on my 125 and a 55. All filters are doing very well and haven’t given me any problems in the two years I have been using them. In my Seachem Tidal filters I use primarily coarse and medium foam with K2 moving bed media on the very bottom of the media basket to act as a settlement area for detritus and such.
In the Marineland/Aqua-Tech filters I primarily use Imagitarium foam blocks backed with and occasionally I’ll insert a media baskets filled with either high end activated carbon or Zeolite.
I pre-filter the water going into the aquariums with Camco water filters for use on RV’s/Marinecrafts.
These hook up to a garden hose and do a good job at removing odors, sediments, chlorine, bacteria and other nastiness.
My other filters are D.I.Y. 5 gallon bucket gravity filters.

It was such a pain doing anything with this filter that I found I stopped moving things in the tank/doing as frequent water changes etc because once it stopped it was such a pain to restart. This is an interesting perspective. There is nothing wrong with your opinion, but I used to have a bunch of aquaclears in my fish room and would have to walk around with a chopstick (funny we used the same thing) restarting the impellers after any power outage/flicker. I was infuriated by this, especially since sometimes they would stick in the absence of a power issue, meaning I had to continually check them. I guess this just shows that everyone views things differently. I now use only sponge filters and LOVE the simplicity and ease of use!

Lol! I thought you weren’t supposed to tap on the Aquarium glass. You’re tapping the filter motor so hard, doesn’t that scare your fish?

I used these Filters… I never let them get this gunked up.. The Reason your Filter is not Working properly~> is the propeller has A Rubber like thing on each end.. They are easy to Lose.. I heard when you banged it, one of those Parts are Missing.. you can hear it…These Parts are easy to lose, as you clean the Filter.. other than that” these are Great Filters/Very Quiet..Also you should alway have them full of water before turning them on..😊

Man aqueon sucks I can’t believe there not producing a new filter with modifications. Banged my filter before to fix it. And it just sounded so loud and ugly after. It really makes you pissed off. 🤣 they need to just not sell that one at the stores.
