Loving that you leave the hiccups in the videos. Makes it more relatable
Haha cat is trying to tell you what the red light does...
The light means feed the cat.
Love these filters, I've had an aqueon 20 running for 5 years now and a aqueon 75 running for about a year with zero problems. They are quiet with the exception of the lid occasionally which I will say is more frequent with the larger one but not enough to really bother me since I usually just poke it and it's quiet again. The pump being in the water means that it doesn't require priming which is simply easy and also safe for power failure. It will restart with no problems. Great review, looking forward to the next one. 👍
"Its got the little retractable hose. Its kinda cute" lol thats what she said
Gale Boetticher from Breaking Bad! Nice try concealing your identity bro!
Thats what biden said
Thank you for all your fish help over the years!
"10 gallon... NO... 30 GALLON!" "...SEADOO!?" 😂😂 Just breathe, it'll be alright... we still love you... lol...
...And I know you called this "lots of doohickies".. but I, personally, preferred the Doobalee-doos, myself! 😁 You've got all the best words, John! 😉 Hope you, and Lisa, have a wonderful holiday week. 🐟❤🦃
Yeah the thingy goes on the the whatsit with the whatdamacallit adding the thingy with the doohickie. I totally understand as John speaks my language 😁
@@jenniferahough4983 I am exactly the same, I used to drive my husband mad with it, everytime he'd ask me where a certain object was, I would just say either it's in the "whatsit thing" or next to the whatsit. As this is a family forum, I'd best not repeat his usual response, lol! 😂😂😂

Hello, I absolutely love you guy's channel and I have learned so very much.. I'm planning on putting together a fish tank, for the first time, for my 5 year old son this Christmas. And after watching your video on this Aqueon quiet 20 filter, I now know that it would be the perfect filter for our very first fish tank. Thank you and we wish you both a happy holidays!
Thank you for breaking it all down in simple beginner terms! I need to upgrade my tank size due to a sudden guppy population explosion but I'm still a beginner and need a tutorial on how to use the simple devices. This was the perfect video for us beginners Thank You!!!
Had a quietflow I got with the tank 6 years ago, still running strong !
Thank you for your honesty in these filter reviews. Much appreciated!
These are my favorite hob filters. I have two running in our living area and they are super quiet and efficient. Oh and I'm also glad you addressed that the filter cartridges are not just straight trash. Yes they are an expense but a fish tank is an expense. Sure cutting your own media can save a lot of money and last longer but cartridges are fine if thats what somebody wants to use.
That's a good filter I like it
I initially set it up wrong and ended up taking it down since it had very strong flow and was too noisy. But after watching this video I decided to give it another try and it's really good. I personally removed the carbon from the filter cartrages (so that they can be kept in the tank long-term) and placed in some hob filter sponges. That way I can use it long-term without killing a bunch of beneficial bacteria unnecessarily
having the pump in the water is great for priming especially after a power interruption... but the quiet running is a bonus.
When I had that I placed an intake sponge on it. I also replaced the cartridge with fluval biomedia and medium to fine sponges. I also replaced the small sponge that's on the outflow with filter floss. Kept my water cleaner and less media clean up. Loved it.
I am new to fish keeping and this looks like an easy way to go. Thanks for all the info.
i used to have an aqueon quietflow 10 and it was as loud as a horn. we took it back to the store and bought a marineland filter, and it is like the best filter ever. thanx john
I just bought this aquarium system, thank you for this post! My husband and are were both trying to understand the purpose for the LED😊
I'm in need of a few filters and would like the filter. Love your videos. Keep up the good work. Been watching for about 8 months now and you keep on helping me in the hobby since I began through your videos.
Great series and review. I been using these for a few years but I don't use the led light as it will go off when the level is high in the box and with diy media, I cut polyfil and cut the media off the frame and use the frame and the blue frame, so that cuts the cost down and in mine it runs high so it will trip the led / dublidoo. But with diy media it's a nice quiet filter and gets the job done. 4 plus years with a few Aqueon hob and canister with no issues.
I really like the comparison videos of the HOB's! I tried some other brands and I like the Aqueon the best. Some of them don't restart after power outage. Most of the problems I have caused. I like seeing the new changes to the other manufacturers HOB'S.
Really like this filter bought it at Petco with a 29 gallon tank. Thanks for your videos really appreciate it.
Like that Aqueon has the auto start in water motor, like Tidal. It just doesn't have enough media basket room. It still relies heavily on buying inserts. I do use a few and put prefilter sponges on them. Thanks for the reviews John.
I actually put other media in my aqueon filters and I have 5 of them. I love them.
@@dwsnono9104 I like them too, but wish I could get more media in the baskets. The pre filter sponges help. I just counted five tanks with them still on them. As I lose one I replace them with Tidals.
Hey John. I've got a 75 and it works great. I choose not to use the cartridges and use my own filter media and it's super quiet it works great ,would enjoy getting that one and putting it on my new 20 with a sponge filter . Thanks for all the great videos.
Another great review John! Keep it honest and to the point!
Really enjoying this filter review series. I like John's descriptions...it's got lots of doo hickies 😂
Happy Thanksgiving guys.
👍💕👍
Hi John! My cat does the same thing 😄. About the filter light, once you pull the tab out and push the cube down all the way, if you push the filter down all the way in the housing it will flash even if it's new, I had to lift the filter up a tad, and the light went out, when the filtration slows the water rises in the housing causing it to flash.your wife does an exceptional job with the filters . Great video. I need to order some things from you, but have never ordered anything on line!
Thank you for showing us an array of different filters.
Thank you for taking the time to review all these. Very helpful
Aqueon Quiet flow Love the way you explained the set up Thank you!
Thanks you soooooo much - I have bought multiple filters because I thought they wasn't working come to find out the water level was too low the whole time - saved me another $40
Enjoying you channel, thanks for the info on all the filters!
Love your TV setup with matching tanks
Love all of the videos, you guys have great content!
I’ve been super curious about this filter. I haven’t picked one up since my filter works just fine. But I want a backup and I’ve been considering this one. Nice review series!
I have used the Aqueon Quiet 75 filters, they are very quiet in my opinion but it was the flow that surprised me about the filter. I cut a piece of Pinky floss to fit inside of the blue plastic cartridge screen/ Doohickey instead of using charcoal cartridge. Which makes maintenance a Breeze.
Love these reviews. I still want to set up a Betta tank so I'm going to keep hoping for a filter. Actually want to set up both a Betta and a Pee Puffer tank. So I could use 2 filters eventually. Take care😊❤️
These are the only filters i use on all 4 of our tanks. My lights all work when the filter is done. There's tape on the batteries that have to be removed before the light will work. I love ours they work great. I like the fact that almost all of the pumps take the same size filter. The little filter is for ammonia or you can get a couple of other filters for it.
Great review bro, I’ve had many aqueon hobs, the cat 🐈 is hilarious btw
I have been using these filters on all the tanks I have had and I like them one big thing for me is they are slimmer than most so you can move your tank closer to the wall and I also changed up the filter and bought the cut to size and cut them the same size as the original ones but way less expensive
This review series is awesome John! Very thorough...
i love this series of filters. i have the 75 filter for my 55 and it works great
Wow, I just got a 38g kit that came with one of those and I did not know that the intake could get longer. Thank you!
luv the self priming aspect
Thanks John. Have one of these on a 10=gall tank, it came with the package, but not a big fan of it, It gets clogged up often and it's loud, plus it need replacement filters that you have to buy, Not much customization options, Can't wait to replace it with an AquaClear or Tidal HOB Power filter.
Mine is loud too.
I have this filter. That smaller blue "Thingy" that goes in the front of the filter with the blue pad is actually what Aqueon calls an Ammonia Neutralizer. You replace them every 2 - 3 weeks (I change them when I do a water change and/or filter change).
Had this with my first tank, my eheim 250 cooked up so I reused this and it works great!
I just got my first fish tank and this video helped me to understand the mechanics operation to a filter. Thank you!
Do you find your motor making a loud noise
Thanks for the video. I'm loving the series.
New to the fish keeping hobby, but really love all the info and entertainment from you’re videos. Got a nice healthy 10 gallon and just bought a 29 kit that ill be getting up and running in the next few weeks. Keep up the good work, Love from Illinois 😇
PS. I noticed you vaping in a video yesterday! Love to see that, i am tobacco free as of about a year ago now and vaping is what helped me quit too.
Good video John ! I've never had a problem with my Aqueon filter and like you said it is quiet 👍
I would love the filter so I can surprise my daughter with her own betta tank for her room,,I love your aquariums in the background,,your videos are amazing for new people in the hobby like myself,,good job
Another great honest review. Keep them coming!
This would change my guppy’s life. Love u show
I've been wanting to get a 20 gal set up, this would be perfect!
The Aqueon 20 on my 33 is the quietest of the filters I have. Have had it running going on 3 years, no problems, ever....yet....(and have a 10g filter next to it for that extra coverage!)
Thank you for introducing me to this filter
I won a few of this brand in a raffle....the light comes on supposedly when the media needs to be changed....I do like the fact about this filter is that it doesn't need to be primed after I do water changes like my aqua Clear 110's does but I have to admit I threw these on my tanks as extra filtration ... I don't but new cartridges for it I buy big amonia pads, cut to fit to replace the media when it time...ots more cost effective...I love hang on backs and my personal go to every time is the aqua Clear 110's they have so much more room for media in them than any others do
Great video! Love the comparison series
I’ve had this on my 20 gal for couple years now and I have no clue about that led light either, was my first filter I ever had and it’s been great filter.
I wouldn't mind getting that filter. I've heard so many good things about it and want to give it a go. It would be awesome if I won it, but I will be happy for the one who does.
I use this filter in a couple of my tanks.. I've never had the light go on either.. good filter though..This is a good series.. thanks for your hard work..
The change light thing is more of a gimmick i don't trust it. Iwash my filter out every week or two and change the filter out every month.
Great review, love this series! 👍🏼
I have the same model, just larger size, running in my 55g Native Tank and my 40gb Goldfish tank. They run like champs. 👌
I have an older model. Appreciate the upgrades over the years.
Love the chilids behind you
LOVE LOVE LOVE this filter. It's super silent and it keeps my water squeaky clean. The submerged pump is great for power loss (or a cat that likes to unplug things) because it prevents dry-running.
Reaaally would love to win this filter. Love Aqueon products.
Beer me a filter, tuna! Thanks for the great videos!
An indicator came with my aqueon filter ,and after a day or two ,the light went off multiple times and I changed the filter and it stopped.
Also, love that you don’t put ads in the video.
For an inexpensive filter system these are the best. Mine are so old I have not had the chance to see the overflow warning LED or the small blue part with added aeration having a small filter for ammonia. One thing that is a big plus about this filter not before mentioned is the fact that with the filter pump submerged it becomes self priming. This is great in the event of a power loss the motor will self siphon and avoid burning out the motor.
Replaced my catridge with 2 sponges from a fluval C4 cut to fit, and threw some lava rock in there. Also throw a pre filter sponge on it and boom!
Love your videos! I have 6 AquaClear for 3 tanks... because 1/2 are forever broken! I need a filter that is quiet, can have a sponge intake plus not die in 3 months.
This design is perfect for introducing kids to the aquarium hobby!
Great series. Thanks for these reviews.
Going to be setting up a betta tank and this would be super helpful!
Always enjoy watching
When you changed the lights in your tanks it really makes a huge difference.
Thanks For Explaining In More Detail, I Truly Appreciated 👍🏽
In my experience, the last stage filter (the one with the small rectangular ammonia filter inserted) makes a lot of noise as the water is diffused through all those little plastic arms. I end up wedging it in at an angle which basically bypasses the plastic arms but still runs through the ammonia filter. I know it means I'm not getting 100% effectiveness from the unit, but otherwise the water trickling through it can be maddeningly loud when trying to watch TV or something in the same room. Came here to see if it's time to switch brands but so far haven't found a HOB alternative that is clearly superior. Note: I have the Quietflow 30, not the 20 as shown here. From reading elsewhere, it seems they get louder as you go up in size.
Nice video. Filter looks great!
I use this filter on my daughters tank. I like the blue thing on outside for BB purposes, and I have course sponge inside it.
Beginner with aquarium care. Appreciate all your advice
Nice filter. Good job John
Cheers man Thanks for the video!!
Once the water flow starts to rise in the aqueon HOB due to water not being able to flow through the cartridge, it goes off, so if u keep Ur filters clean, u will almost never see the light.
I've never seen a in tank pump before you started this "series" and I think it's be pretty cool to try it out
I just bought this one today and I love it so far . It’s definitely quiet . But I bought the 45 gallon filter and it’s $40
Cool filter! I like the submerged in the tank pumps too... never had this particular filter, but if you think about the fluval flex and specs, all the pumps are int the tank, albeit in a wall behind or on. The side.... I’d love to try one.
i have the aqueon 10 gal quiet flow (for my 15 gal guppy tank) and i have a lot of hard water stains on it, it's a struggle to clean. any suggestions for a deep clean of it? thanks! keep up the great content!!!! VERY HELPFUL 👍🏻
I use some of these as temporary and additional filtration when I think it is needed. I think that the doobledeedoos on the front spillway are supposed to function like an "aerator" as the water passes through. Does it work? I dunno. I know that if they start to store algae, it takes a long time with vinegar, Q-tips or pipe-cleaners, and a lot of patience to get them all clean. It is nice that there is a small section there for "specialized filter media", but I have felt a need to use it. Having a pre-filter on the intake is a must, but very simple to do. I no longer use the filter cartridges because they were difficult to clean and expensive to replace. I just stuff the sucker full of sponge material. The flow coming out is pretty heavy. My betta hated it, but my corys love it. After the first year, it seems that the impeller needs to be reseated more often than what should be necessary. The hang-on area is too tight to put it on a larger tank that has a larger top lip, but I guess that it isn't really meant for that anyways. The motor is very quiet, but the water coming out of the spillway is louder than I like, but that will probably be similar to any other filter in this category.
That would be the perfect filter for my next tank.
Thanks for the review. Looking at this one and a couple of others
This would great for the quarantine tank i am trying to set up.
That's a nice little filter with the led I was thinking about setting up a fresh water tank and that filter would give me a good start I also buy old tanks to set them up for Kids that cant afford to buy and a free filter would work well with that!!!! Keep up the good work I like your videos very true to the FACTS!!!
I have a larger version of this on a 75. I've seen both where recommended to clean the sponge on the front end on the filter (touches the tank water). What does KG recommend? thanks for reading!
Love that lots of these are self-priming. And what are you (and your fish) vaping these days?
I just bought an Aqueon tank. I would love to have this filter.
I have a smaller version of this filter. It also has lid and noise issues. That being said, it has been in service for almost a year. It doesn't require as much cleaning of the main unit with a prefilter sponge on the intake. I do clean the prefilter on about 4 times as often as the main unit. One other option I wish my unit had was a flow control setting.
The lid on one of our 3 of these was a little off and caused a condensation drip down the back of the filter. It leaked enough out of the back to drain the tank down until the filter ran dry. Quite the surprise when I got home from work. That’s been the only issue though.
6:20 that's also in the Penn-Plax Cascade and it caught a lot of extra crud in my 20 long with 5 convict cichlids.
That would be my #2 from your lineup although I've never had the Tidal. There was a finicky motor I had with one of my aqueons where the motor would stop when I unplugged it but it was easy to get it started again. Besides that, internal motor, good flow, I think it has a good amount of space for media (if you toss the cartridges and blue plastic) actually fit MORE media- Sponges and matrix- in it then my Fluval Aqua Clear. I still like Fluval ACs flow better as I feel it just has the beat gph rate of the bunch.
I would love a quiet filter, my old marineland rattles like crazy! Can hear it through the whole house
