TOP 5 Fossorial Tarantulas - Spiders Underground

- This is one of the MOST REQUESTED videos over the past few years. I have avoided making it until now, because fossorial tarantulas are hard to film. Especially since I don't want to dig them up just to make a video. But I think we have figured out a solution to filming these spiders that live underground.

Definitely love having damp substrate as a pet.
🤣🤣🤣
Richard woke up and chose violence 😅.
😆😁🤣
I used to be scared of tarantulas, but after watching your videos, I now have about 30, so thank you 😊
That is awesome!
First clip and I have to say -I'm so glad I'm not the only one who can't get those labels all the way off the back of those enclosures 😂😂
😂😂I thought the same thing
Think ur missing the point of what makes fossrial so cool
For me it's the way they hunt
I remember u showing a video
Of the stardust baboon tarantula in a top 10 along with the obt
It was that volcano style burrow that drew me in
And the speed of the hunt of the obt
The way u out food in and bang these legs just came and went it was gone
It was amazing to watch
Just the comment I was hoping to see. I am looking for a beginner friendly, but Interesting fossorial T. Have any recommendations? Thank you :)
I do see my birupes all the time. It also escaped once they are fast
Favorite fossorial in my collection is the Ephebopus cyanognathus (Blue Fang Skeleton)! Metallic blue fangs, gorgeous green abdomen, and blueish toes with yellow striping! I don’t see mine super often but when I do, I’m just awestruck by how epic it looks!
This is the style of video I love!
😊
Might as well rename fossorial tarantulas as mean substrate
Utterly amazing animals.
If you fancy having a wet patch of dirt as a pet with an occasionally angry spider emerging from it! Sorted lol!
I kinda feel like this with our C . Elegans. She just hasn't emerged yet!
Yeeeeees let's go!!
Can you please make a video about the Avicularia purpuria if you have one great videos btw
my hysterocrates gigas used to always be in his burrow at the very bottom of the enclosure against the plastic but since i moved him into a deep enclosure he seems to always be up on the surface now hes not even burrowed to the bottom after 3 months really is an odd species
Fantastic video keeping it very real
Hey great video! :D My Chilobrachys nantanicharum is out very ofter, I got realy lucky with that one. But I have some additions to the list. First would be Ornithoctoninae spec. „Vietnam Silver” and Chilobrachys "tropical blue". Look them up, they are awesome. Cheers! :)
They are really good shots of your tarantulas, I wish I could get some good shots of my tarantulas
Great video Richard ! I think my top 5 fossorial would be:
1. Ephebopus murinus (Skittish but beautiful & a bit wacky)
2. Cyriopagopus schmidti (beautiful gold colour, like to venture outside of their burrows & grow very big)
3. Hystocrates crassipes (very shy, but less assertive & bigger than the gigas. Also need XL water bowls as they like to skinny-dip!)
4. Cyriopagopus lividiim (The classic 'pet hole', but when you do see them, wow is it worth it!)
5. Theraphosa storm (They're just mental, end of.)
I love my Ephebopus uatuman. It likes to sit halfway outside of its burrow. Really cool web too. I do like keeping a jar of moist dirt with a funnel of web and crud in it cause a few times a week I do get a glimpse at this gorgeous green and orange spider!
I’m wanting to get an Ephebopus murinus so badly that it’s killing me. They just aren’t that easy to find. Some fossorials are definitely more enjoyable than others when it comes to appearance and how much you actually see them
Love your sarcasm.
I didn’t expect H gigas to even make the list let alone be number 1 lol. My H gigas is the only fossorial tarantula I have. It was also my first old world and given to me as a freebie. It’s actually really awesome for a brown spider. I can catch it completely outside of its burrow sometimes at night, and I can almost always fish it most of the way out with a small paint brush before feeding it at the burrow entrance. I have gotten some really nice feeding shots on my phone thanks to my gigas. My favorite fossorial species is definitely the E murinus or skeleton leg tarantula. It is high on my watch list at the moment, and I am really looking forward to getting one. I’ve heard some mixed opinions on them. One individual said their female was their sweetest tarantula and that they could even handle it. Regardless of temperament, I am a sucker for a spider that fits a Halloween theme
I’ve been waiting for this video for so long and finally it’s here!! As always, very high quality video.
🤝😁👌
Glad you liked it!
I feel like it's been forever since I've seen a video of interest to me from this channel. Definitely want to get a Fossorial or I guess I could just fill a container with dirt and tell people it's a Fossorial Tarantula. I mean, they'd never know.😂
I have a little bin of isopods and people seem scared that I secretly have a spider in there so I can confirm. If you have a couple spiders any container of dirt will cast skeptical glances
Great video! So glad the Electric Blue Legs made it on to this list!
Great Job !!! 😉
Coming in from TN! Can’t wait to meet you!!!
These are my absolute favorite type of videos of yours!
Brilliant video Richard, very enjoyable.
Awesome list! I have to agree with the H gigas being number one lol. Also love the electric blue, both of mine always have their legs sticking out. This was an awesome watch! As always these visuals are on point!
As a Australian substrate keeper, I love this video!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I love this tarantula
😂 I love the sarcasm and sas
Owning a fossorial is like: "I have a jar of dirt! I have a jar of dirt! And guess what's inside it!"
LMAO, love this video. Perfectly showcases us weirdos that love fossorials. And yeah, earthtiger gets overused so much that some of them are even arboreal. My own no-seeum list would include the blue fang, Thai gold fringe, feather leg baboon, polychromatic earthtiger, and kang krachan.
I love tarantulas got 9x myself
I def agree with the H.Gigias might be the best fossorial T
I love my H. gigas! Mine made a long long burrow but it sits outside and goes for a stroll a lot. I'm sad my favorite fossorial Cyriopagopus lividus wasn't in the list.
I actually filmed the C. lividus when I thought I was gonna do a top 10, but it got cut bc I only had time to make a top 5 before the deadline.
I love my fossorial tarantulas!!
Cyriopagopus vonwirthi is named after Volker von Wirth who has a great passion especially for asian " Earth Tigers".
Hello great video information Richard
It's impossible to decide between which box of dirt I want most.
Brian and Louie are good people! When I first got into tarantulas (about 10 years ago) I didn't think I'd ever find other tarantula keepers in WV. I can remember the 1st time I saw one of your videos and was like "Why does he keep mentioning WV?!" 😂 My current favorite fossorial would have to be one I actually got from Tie Dyed Tarantulas - my Lyrognathus giannisposatoi. That deep coffee and chocolate coloration with the thick back legs. 🔥🔥🔥
Appreciate you! Gotta love the Giannisposatoi!
😃
my next 2 old worlds are going to be fossorial Chilobrachys fimbriatus-Indian Violet and Ornithoctonus aureotibialis-Thai yellow fringe
I just bought a chilobrachy fimbriatus today, then this video popped up,I was hoping it would be on there.
Nice work Richard 😊., You are very talented with our ANIMALS and supporting true information about this.
I Respect you, thank you.😊
🕸️🕷️💥👊🤠👍🇺🇲💯%
pelinobius muticus is still a very cool tarantula. there are also some scorpion species that are very good pet sand buckets.
Aussie Ts have entered the chat! 😂
I.. honestly kinda want a spicy jar of dirt...
Yeah top 5!
Cant wait for the BIG DAY, October 28th! Cant wait to see everyone!
Great list Richard. Awesome channel my friend now I'm going to binge watch everything on your channel. Thank you for Great content and have a great day.
Awesome, thank you!
great vid
I recently got an enclosure full of substrate.... I mean a phlogius sp kuranda, thing never comes out
Hey Richard have you ever done a care/rehouse video on the H.Gigas ?
Birupes simoroxigorum 🤘🔥
They loose the blue just like the metallicas 🤫
I have a an electric blue, a huahini, fimbriatus and many other fossorial tarantulas and I personally love them especially the Asian species, though my fimbriatus is then only one that constantly gives me attitude, my chilobrachys T's often come out at night or when I feed them.
I see a pattern here... "It's just an enclosure full of dirt"
You were able to stay awake long enough to talk to Bryan 😂.
I had to get to him early!
@@brianmcpeak2384 😭😭😭😭
I have to say that I think I lucked out with my Birupes. He's never been a huge digger so I only have a box of dirt about 50% of the time.
Top heavy webbers part two?
Lol, this video was just dripping with sarcasm.
Hello great video live stream Richard
I'm also making a tarantula video, i hope it's as succesful as you, inspiring dude 🎉
I love my LSD earth tiger
Good pets for people trying to keep their pets a secret from their roommates
I feel like i have a container with substrate and a peice of bark since my gautamalan tiger rump never come's out now
I’m surprised by your experience with H. Gigas I got mine as a tiny sling and it’s 10cm now. She definitely is a borrower but for the last few months she’s chosen to be outside. She doesn’t spook easily and will run into her borrow only if I really disturb her enclosure which I do before I feed and water. But even when she eats it’s outside. I know a few people who have them and we all have similar experiences. Side note, we stay in South Africa. Maybe that has a role to play 🤷♀️ P.S she’s never given a threat pose
I Miss the Ornithoctonus aureotibialis😊 in my opinion the the Number 1 ❤
one of my faves!!
I just got a chilobrachys fimbriatus as my first T wish me luck😮
What about Haploclastus Devamatha?
My birupes acts terrestrially.. has never burrowed, uses its hide but otherwise its always out on display.. has enough substrate to burrow but just doesn't...
❤❤❤❤❤
Are these enclosures for the adults? Are can you keep adult fossil tarantulas in the zoo med vertical enclosures?
Another good one is Psednocnemis brachyramosa
Does VN earth tiger have golden color form? I have an earth tiger but dont know the scientific name
My Birupes has been with me for four molt cycles and has yet to move a grain of dirt. Are we sure they are fossorial and not just opportunistic burrowers? Mine has behaved terrestrial/semi arboreal it's entire life so far
Have you made sure it's substrate is similar to what it would be in the wild? Because maybe it's too dry or too wet. Idk, just a suggestion.
you literally missed off ALL the big bad fossorial Ts C. Schmidti. Lividim. Minx.
I mean im a fish keeper and my favorite fish are all lazy catfish.😂 My Raphael " talking catfish" they try and stab you with their barbs and like to live in a log 24/7 and my bqnjo catfish that stay burried in the sand 24/7 and sometimes you see their mouth and eyes visible because there hungry lol.
I also love my clown plecos that i know are alive because i see poop 😂. Soo cant judge jar of dirt people.
Make a Cobalt Blue video.
I have already! Check it out here: czcams.com/video/Nq49lokAaYA/video.htmlsi=Pi8GRiixgD1BEBI7
Cameroon is Central Africa
Unless you’re Dave’s little beasties, his are out and about all the time
Ya cause he almost starves them. I love him (Dave and Camera Lady), so I don't mean to sound mean, but he even says that his are out because he doesn't feed them often, so they are out, looking for food.
So, is there a real criteria this list was based on? What’s the distinction between number 5 and number 1; or was the whole video a joke? Sorry, I’m a little confused.
Read mate "ch" as a "h"
There not very Creative people
👎👎
Ive been waiting for this, Interesting list
