- My Davus sp. Panama (formerly Theraphosinae sp. Panama) also known as the Lava Spider or Lava Tarantula, has outgrown her enclosure and it is time to upgrade her into a BIOACTIVE naturalistic enclosure. I cover how I set up my enclosures for the Lave Spider as well as discuss temperatures, humidity, care, husbandry, temperament, etc. Make sure to leave a comment and let me know what you think of the enclosure and if you have any other questions!

Beautifully Done and rehoused my Amazing and Intelligent Friend ♥️🤗👑🕷️🕸️🕷️👑🤗♥️
Nice video! That’s a pretty cool spider!
NGL. When I saw the words "Lava Tarantula" I had PTSD flashbacks to those horrible "Lavalantula" movies. Thought they'd made another one. I felt like crying.
God I watched those when they came out, I think I've watched almost every giant spider movie out there and I gotta say, 3/10.
Is it entertaining bad, or boring bad?
@@idonomaeatomoku9322 SyFy original garbage. If you've ever seen Sharknado than u know the vibes.
Depends on your tastes I guess. If you're into horrible B movies just for the shlockiness of it, then entertaining bad lol. But if not then they are just absolute garbage@@idonomaeatomoku9322
Oh Please! will you share a 10/10 Giant Spider Movie…seriously
Such a beautiful tarantula. Thank you for showing how her enclosure should be. Your enclosure was gorgeous the greens made her stand out.
Hey guys, I have this funny feeling that Richard uses stuff from the Bio Dude.
I don't even own a tarantula and I became obsessed with your channel. I was always obsessed with tarantulas but I have a fear of crickets and roaches
I have had my Lava Tarantula for about 6 months now, and 'she' is doing so well. They have a very sweet disposition, too, as she always comes out to say 'hello' when I open her enclosure to feed to give a quick spray. Lovely friendly little T that has a good appetite, is not defensive nor kicks any hair. Just a gorgeous species all round and an absolute pleasure to own 😊
When i first saw your channel i had 2 tarantulas, and now i have 14! And i better know how to take care of em thanks Richard!
Happy to help!
The camera getting snatched before the outro gets me every time.
and the laugh
Ahhh, my dream T, along with a Seladonia. I am mainly a scorpy girl, but I also love my Ts, and want one of these SO MUCH. Thank you for showing him, and what a gorgeous rehouse!
Im going to be brutally honest with you here.
I ABSOLUTELY ENVY your back wall alone 😂😂😂
My gaming room/spider room is in my attic, so i have a 9ft wall thats also angled aswell so not too much to play with but wow your backdrop looks wicked!! ❤
The Lava Tarantula looks great and the habitat looks great as well. Nice job!!
What a beautiful girl her colours were gorgeous ...
wow nice - I have two but just realised after watching your video I'm keeping mine too dry!
Awesome re-house! The D. panama is going to love this! I'm glad to hear about the BioDude code and will be using it next order.
Awesome! Thank you!
My oh my she is a little beauty ❤
shes so adorable
One of my dream Ts! Thank you for showing us this beauty and how to properly set up a bio active home for this fella
You bet!
Picked one up at my last repticon, such a beautiful little shy baby ♥️
Dope ❤
Love your videos! ❤
Great video, super enjoyed. 🎉
So pretty!! Love the video man
one of my favorites, lookin good!
I don’t know about ever owning one but… the Lava Tarantula has to be my favourite. Thanks for the great content 🙏👍👍
Awesome Video Tarantula Collective i am glad to see you are well 😊
Such a badass tarantula!
I adore this species! Definitely on my list. I have a Grammostola pulchra also in a tarantula cribs enclosure, based on your videos. Great channel! Thank you! ☺️
Great video as always! We love that species!!! What a great hoodie too. Welcome 2 The Innverse
Hello great video information Richard
Thank you sir
beautiful tarantula ❤
great video! Nice to see rehousing videos from you, it's the perfect balance between informative and entertaining.
They are such a goal!
Brilliant video Richard, and what a stunning species of spider 🕷.
Love how you decorated the terra. And Spidey is beautiful too
Great video, you are probably one of my favourite content creators and I’ve learned a lot from you
Great content. always giving me ideas.
Glad to help!
Looks like that will be the 2nd sp that we shall get!
You have one of those RARE tarantulas from your lists that’s cool. I would love to see more rehousing those are so informative for us newcomers who are interested in aboreals love your work.
Such beautiful colors! Gorgeous
It really is!
Kudos on the move to bioactive. It really is the most beneficial _and_ fulfilling, on a personal level. You'll probably end up removing that Ficus pumila, the trailing plant. It's extremely fast growing. Unless you want to trim it weekly lol. It looks really cool in a larger enclosure, where it can have room to fill out some space, but even then a lot of people won't use it due to its growing habit. Check out the Ficus pumila quercifolia, or oak leaf ficus. It has smaller oak like shaped leaves and it grows much more slowly. It's a gorgeous terrarium plant. Both are perfect for humid enclosures. Love your content
You should make a store ❤
Man I wish I could get those enclosures that cheap in Australia!!!
Nice enclosure dude i bought a davus sp. panama sling in october it was only around 1cm has molted twice but hasnt put on much size yet probably only 1.5cm cant wait for it to grow bigger so i can make a cool enclosure like that for it
I want one so badly! If I’m lucky I’ll find one at the expo coming up in April
That was an awesome video. One thing it missed though was when you was adding the bio shot I was hoping you would of added some via the seasoning meme style (I'm sure you've seen it)! 😂 Otherwise very cool video!
🌋🕷
Hey brother thanks for all your videos! Really informative and a great way to showcase all the cool and interesting T’s in this hobby! I have a question though how do you keep track of all the different requirements for the different species in such a large collection? Do you use a system and or have helpers to feed and maintain their moisture requirements. Thanks for the videos and keep up the great work!
I love the setup and the T. For me, the water bowl spoils the naturalistic look a little. There must be a more natural looking option available.
Excellent video, as always! Not familiar with the Davus sp. Panama. It looks impressive. Always love watching your rehousing videos. You make it as natural as can be.
Thanks for watching!

Hey Richard! I was wondering if you are planning to either add more information or make a video about bioactive enclosures for tarantulas. I'd really like to get into bioactive, but I'm usually bad with plants, and wouldn't know where to start. I think I'd be interesting to learn more about how you decide what to put where, and how you started making them. Thank you, and keep being awesome ♥
I actually already have many videos about that on my channel. You can watch my bioactive videos here: czcams.com/play/PLjBrtja7Q8uim0LLHWoi47kczfeb5t_ZJ.html&si=s7_Ytt0PyAbm_r14
@@tarantulacollective I will definitely look into it! Thank you!
What do I gotta do to get my hands on one of these beauties? ❤
I'm soon going to be looking at Re-house and looking forward hope for one more
MOLT w/HAMORII, been awhile 🤔
She's in your collective 3x3x3 . So she's

I been using ECO EARTH sub. Seems OK.
I have a good entrance and she digs at her burrow . Hasn't ate 1 month.
I wait, I watch 😊

Any recommendations of a certified online store I can purchase T’s from in UK? 🤞🏻
Can you do another video on your cave gecko , I just got one my self
Are you coming to the Salt Lake City show in March?
I have no plans, sorry.
Does anyone know if a sling will eat the springtails? Mine are in bioactive enclosures, one sling never comes up for food so I wondered if they were eating the smaller things
Question: A year or two ago I acquired my first spiderling, which the breeder identified as a “Dwarf Blue Peruvian”. My own research has show this to be a confusing classification group, though it may be a Homoeomma peruvianum.
That said, it’s time to finally rehome the juvenile and I too appreciate bioactive enclosures. However, I’m trying to identify the correct moisture regime before buying all the materials. My same research effort puts this species collection around the Cusco region of Peru; between where the amazon basin transitions into tropical savanna, and then transitions again to a semi-arid at elevation.
Given the diversity in climate, I’m torn. Should I be favoring a fully tropical enclosure with abundant moisture which could support tropical plants and mosses (or would that be too moist and damp, along with the potential need for a drainage layer). Or should I be more closely trying to mimic the semi-arid ecotype found at mild elevation, such as the grassy mountain slopes around say Machu picchu?
Any input would be appreciated. I would like to properly care for the animals under my care, but I am not a tarantula aficionado.
Are they burrowers? That substrate looks deep.
They are opportunistic burrowers so I like to give them the option. It is also a bioactive enclosure with real plants that need substrate depth for their roots. And every single terrestrial enclosure I make I fill at least half way full so the tarantula has the ability to burrow but also so if they climb the walls or across the top and fall, it won't be a long fall that could injur or kill them.
I own 1 of these and god they are tough to find
How old is this spider? Trying to figure out a growth rate for my very small sling. They show colors when they are so small :)
I have had her about 2 years, she was a tiny sling when I got her. they have a medium growth rate, slow but not Aphonopelma slow...lol
With the cork bark dont cut it, it does not look natural, put it on the floor and stamp on it
Please make a heteroscodora maculata video pls pls pls pls pls pls pls pls pls pls pls pls pls
second that. Favorite species
how often should tarantulas be rehoused?
I only rehouse them when they out grow their enclosure or if there is something wrong like it gets too damp or taken over with mold.
I didn't know the plural for arachnid was arachne
Are all the things behind you spiders and insect enclosures?
yeah, those are most of the tarantula enclosures. The reptiles, isopods and scorpions are along the other wall and the other animals and true spiders are on the 3rd wall. I have a video where I take you on a tour you can watch here: czcams.com/video/yUy9d7DFbdw/video.htmlsi=4c3GdkMCBnmXs1X4
@tarantulacollective very cool ! I'm living vicariously through you collectors. I tried to bring a Praying Mantis in the house and the GF said "I don't mind it being here if you don't mind my new boyfriend sharing space with you. "
Not worth the fight. For now.
Hey I’ve been watching you for a while and I have a question for y’all I’m 14 and looking for my first tarantula I want one that will tolerate handling and that’s docile I won’t handle regularly I will very very rarely just to show to people that come over but won’t let them handle the t for safely reasons and I won’t handle unless one ground so my options are Mexican fire knee and Mexican red knee and Arizona blonde and Chilean rose hair and curly hair and Brazilian black and Antilles pink toe and Chaco golden knee and Chilean flame tarantula so what do y’all think any recommendations will be much appreciated thanks in advance
Those are some great options. Did you see the video I made on thus topic last week? czcams.com/video/OMIZ-8PsG1c/video.htmlsi=wHJNbsGzfDKw6GyD
@@tarantulacollective yes I did I’ve watched all of the best beginner tarantula videos from you but I can’t decide between these ones which do you think I should get like your number 1
@@rileylofin7653 I say you should get the Chaco Golden Knee for your first.
@@tarantulacollective Ok thank you so much bro
Finally a good video
Thanks!
All that stuff from the bio dude would probably cost about $50 do that tiny little enclosure looks ok but for a T as expensive as the lava tarantula I'd want see it that tiny sling will completely disappear in that enclosure if it was bigger it would look nice but it just looks way too crowded
that is a downside to keeping your tarantulas in bioactive and natural setups. You cant just walk up and lift their hide and look at them. But having multiple enclosures set up similarly, I find that with plenty of places for the tarantula to escape and hide, they typically spend more time out in the open, because they know a secure shelter is close by.
I love your love of tarantulas! However, I do find it hard to watch your videos because of how much you use Tarantula Cribs. It seems like your "how to keep" videos only tell me the size of the tarantula cribs rather than dimensions and now your substrate is also a branded product too, making this a very expensive thing to do. Could you please give us more options? A tarantula CZcamsr that I watch keeps TONS of spiders but will always give dimensions and substrate options. Tarantula cribs are too expensive for what they are and their are so many options out there. I find myself going somewhere else for enclosure builds. Just some constructive criticism.
Thanks for the feedback. I hesitate to respond because usually, when someone offers advice and I respond, they get defensive and upset. But you made a few good points I'd like to explain. I use those products because they are what I like the most and what works best for me. Because of that, these companies have reached out and partnered with me to provide their products and/or sponsor videos for advertising. CZcams is my full-time job, and advertising is what pays the bills and keeps the channel afloat so i can continue to make videos. The dimensions for every enclosure are listed on their website if I don't mention it in the video. (But I did mention that in this video and said it was 8x8x8). I have also made videos showcasing exo terra, zoo med, zilla, zen habitats, custom reptile habitats, tarantula room, dreamco, and many other enclosures, even enclosures I have made myself. If you have watched my care videos, then you know i started out only using coco fiber until I repeatedly had issues. I then switched to jungle mix but had different issues and switched to reptisoil. I used reptisoil exclusively for a few years until Terra Aranea came out. Since I started using that, it has been my favorite, and it is what I had been using for a while when they approached me offering an affiliate commission. I understand where you are coming from though, and mentioning all the different types of substrates and enclosures is something I have done in many past videos (in fact I've done complete videos on just that topic, for example: czcams.com/video/N0m0q51MAHg/video.htmlsi=3BHTKINfqa2gnTMm or czcams.com/video/XrOZqfRj7Lw/video.htmlsi=0nQDi-jMeIVgCre3). But I'm not going to advertise a company or product, for free, that I don't use myself or recommend. I think that would be disingenuous. As always, my videos are all about my experiences and what I do. I'm not telling anyone what they should do, just showing you what I do. You canntakenwhat applies and let the rest fly. That is something I say quite frequently in my content as well. I also trust my viewers have the critical thinking skills neccessary to understand that the enclosure and substrate I am using can easily be replaced with the enclosures and substrates that they prefer to use. If you prefer other styles of enclosure build videos, I encourage you to watch them and support those channels. All of this content on youtube is provided to everyone free of charge, and I encourage everyone to watch many different channels and help the hobby grow in all areas of differing tastes. The more styles of content and husbandry that are available for people to see, the better everyone can take care of their animals as a whole. But just like every other free social media app like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, it is free to use but powered and funded by advertising. I do appreciate your opinions and will take them into consideration, but I would be remiss if I didn't mention that your comment is just one comment on a video quickly trending to 10k views. So your opinion is representative of only 0.01% of the people that have watched the video. Even if there were 100 comments just like this, that would still only represent about 1% of the people who watched. (Just based on the comments left on this video by people inspired enough to take the time to type something, your view is still only representive of 1.2% of commentors) That is why content creators mainly base content strategy on analytics instead of someone's constructive criticism because, like most things in life, what people do is more important than what they say. That being said, I will take your comment into consideration.
Thanks for the reply, and I do appreciate the time that you took to write this! I just get disappointed because I actually love your videos and did miss that you did use dimensions, so I apologize for missing that, and
if I could afford to get a whole bunch of tarantula cribs and bio dude stuff, I totally would. I just choose to invest in different species of tarantulas, diy bioactive soils, with diy enclosures that look great and are only a fraction of the price of what is represented in your videos. The fact is: I'm a veterinary technician with a limited budget, so I have to pick and choose my financial battles. You're enclosures are beautiful though. So please don't get offended.
I will say though: I get a little defensive when you say that I'm 0.01 percent of your very large audience, which I know is true, but it does make what I said sound insignificant. It kinda sounds like a corporate answer when you refuse to reverse a late fee.
Awesome! You inspire me to get a tarantula and scorpions. I'd love to see some more scorpion videos!
Thanks! Will do!
See the sting video of the bark scorpion! I know that had to hurt Richard. I’m 65 and have been stung by a lot of stuff including being bitten by a black widow spider when I was a young dude. Just got stung by a bee yesterday by accidentally driving through a swarm. Hurt like heck and my hand swelled up. Never had a reaction in my life like that before. Wonder if 🐝 are getting more potent or they could have been Africanized? Thanks!
