Initially I wasn't a big fan of this combo but after playing around with it, I'm sold.
The combo potential on this bad boy real high and that evade move is kinda neat as repositioning and evading move while maintaining charged attack stages and Surge combo stage.
Hopefully insect glaive next
im hoping that sunbreak is going to have frontier levels of monster design...

Fun fact that almost no one has mentioned, but I've seen myself from testing it: The spin (at least the 2nd and 3rd spin of the combo) gives you super armor, so you can tank through attacks to make an opening for your 3rd combo hit.

Surge slash was really the one thing I wanted for GS, a combo that lets you be "light" on your feet instead of spamming charge slashes or shoulder bashes till the monster dies. Also this + the new aerial silk bind for GS will literally turn you into guts
Yeeees, I really like the direction GS is going with a lot of these skills, aside from the wirebug evade, cuz I feel like power sheathe is basically the same move just with a buff it gives u... But the strongarm stance, surge combo, rage slash, power sheathe... Greatsword is gonna be such an epic weapon, and it's starting to look like it's gonna be my fav weapon alongside insect glaive. I'll always be a Hunting Horn enjoyer, but Iceborne was Hunting Horn's pinnacle, now other weapons are getting a chance to shine for me

It's look like the Giant Hunt's ash of war from Elden Ring and it fit perfectly with the Great Sword, with this move i can pull out a good status build, Sleep GS ^^

backslide also can use while charging your attack and it keep your charge level + charge animation before back slide is insanely fast. so it's better tackle for TCS

I like the Surge Slash combo a lot, it seems like a more polished return to the uncharged GS of gen 1. The thrust move in particular is really cool. That said, I hate these new "absolute evasion lite" silkbinds a few weapons have gotten. We already have plenty of evasive moves, on top of the new Silkbind Swap evade. Would've been much nicer to have something more creative imo.
Troo, and with some evade extender all these counters and evasion moves just encourage a more reckless, lazy playstyle. Luckily the greatsword's counter moves still involve taking a respectable amount of damage, so I don't dislike it too much, but LS now essentially having like 6 different counters where they take 0 damage is just... Come on. I miss just putting evade extender on weapons, maybe some evade window, and that's my evasion 100%. Even just 1 point in evade extender makes u roll much farther, making avoiding pretty much every attack in the game pretty easy if u arent too reckless.
However, I don't mind sunbreak emphasizing on counters and evasions, it'll be a fun little experience to play with til the next game :)
@@taytay1597 And GS kinda needs one since they are focusing on the hit-and-run style being a slow weapon type, so it make sense to me
@@stygiandragon3865 troo, altho for me, the new hysteria skill is looking to be a staple point of GS. Idk if it'll be translated into the next games because of shoulder tackle, and tbh I would choose shoulder tackle to be in the next game over hysteria prolly, because it's such a greatsword move, but either way they're both very greatsword and cool, so i dont mind if they replace shoulder tackle with hysteria. I do wish they kept the name strong arm stance tho lol, it sounded so badass

@@taytay1597 Power is the game after all. Andas for evading, we can just slap on evade jewels and done. Even though the new evade keep the weapon unsheathe so a follow up be used, Power sheath ofters the extra distance and power. And if Rage slash gets carried over, I prefer hysteria

GS is fast paced than ever and I am loving it
Tried it out this morning after rarely playing Greatsword in the most recent titles... I've already made five sets around this for different elements + blast, and I'm already planning on doing even more after getting a hang of the combat. I really hope they keep SSC in some capacity in future games because this is the most complete a weapon has felt ever. You have a mode where you do the highest possible damage but your stuck with large windows of vulnerability. You have a mode with slightly more mobility and combo potential at the cost of the former damage ceiling. And you have a bunch of utility moves your expected to use to mitigate the several big weakness of GS (position correction, hyper armor tackles to prevent being knocked out of charge attacks, a handful of movement options for many different things etc.). The only thing that might come close to being "complete" in terms of having satisfying answers to everything is Switch Axe and I'm tentatively saying that because I haven't messed with it yet. I've seen great things the swap system and certain decorations have done for it, but I haven't given it the legwork.

It seems like surge slash also gives you an innate fast charge on the Strong charge if you go into it from the combo. Almost like a way to reward you for going through the entire combo to get to it instead of just going draw slash->strong charge with the normal greatsword combo.

Yeah two guys actually, one guy Re-posted all 4 of the videos I covered by putting their intro and outro and acted as if they were Capcom's videos, a mate brought that to my attention and there's another guy that started doing the exact same way using my weapon intro slides, funny part is they're not fighting the monsters just showing the moves at the spawn. That would take like half an hour at best to make and post the video that way and it hurts to watch your work get used up like that for some cheap gain.
Might be good to smack some heads with a charged hit after breaking them with the combo. And the silkbind is just the perfect short positioning tool that was lacking
I really like Surge slash combo but after playing the demo I think the unsheathe -> charge -> Hysteria combo is way too got to not have it. It looks so cool tho and the damage is also pretty on point and when a Monster is down we may have enough time to do full Surge slash combo up to TCS which will do more damage than just the charge combo.
I'm looking forward to Surge Slash since I'm still not sold on Hysteria. I know it does big damage and everyone says it's amazing but it hasn't been too effective for me. It costs 2 bugs so it's only useful when you have 3 consistently. Also I think people are leaving out the fact it whiffs a lot. It only feels good for giant windup moves. If not it still gets interrupted easily.
Oh cool you can still charge the sword and go in to TCS via hysteria.

I wonder why it's called Hysteria in the demo when it was originally called Strongarm Stance.
Fyi, the 3rd atk from horizontal surge combo has super armor. So if u want super armor, always finish your combo use horizontal atk.
Wide slash combos have some too.
Edit: Got used to calling them wide slash combos, didn't even stop to think horizontal is pretty much the same thing you were referring to.

I feel like everyone, even redditors documenting this, are completely missing the fact that Wide III of the combo basically has a built in tackle.
While I do have a fear that TCS spam through Strongarm is going to be a lot stronger, I’m still probably gonna play a Surge Slash + Rage Slash build just because it looks fun

whats the point of all these new silkbind reposition skills with i-frames when multiple weapons already have them. GS already has power sheathe with i frames and adamant charged slash with super armor, and SA's switch charger already has i-frames.
I'm still confused by the surge slash combo. Can you do different variations of it? Sometimes it looks like multiple attacks other times it looks like just the sweeping stab.
It's got 9 moves in total to chose from and some of them have powdered states after a parry, this combo can get real crazy depending on the situation.

wait, in backslide you can reposition while charging AND keep the charge you were in????
yep, if you're using charge slash combos you'll retain the combo state you're in same with surge slash combo.
If you evade at second attack the next attack you do will be third of any of the combos, if you roll after using this evade it resets back or wait long enough where your hunter holds in idle animation.
man surge combo really fix how dull GS has been for multiple gens. faster combo swings more actions

Ticktok and instagram are famous for this, I saw two CZcams blokes doing it and my CZcams studio gave me 5 more videos that are straight up re-uploads, they cropped my name out.

Pretty much, they might do some changes to them in the final version but I'm not so sure about it.
Is there a synergy between Surge Slash Combo and the Back Slide as well? or only with hysteria?
Lets you evade and maintain combo level that's about it, no damage buffs as far as I can see.

I make these, on PC you can use cheat engine to gain access to these hidden moves.

@@zynx1828 you can't charge Surge combos though. I know you can do it while charging regular slash and you can tachnically use hysteria while charging the strong slash even while using Surge combo, I'm just wondering if there is a way to quickly cancel the Surge slash combo into TCS with hysteria
i was hoping surge would enable elemental greatsword but it seems hysteria tcs spam is gonna be so op
wide slashes of surge combo hit multiple times so that would be good for elemental combos, from data mines it is revealed that they have same elemental and part modifiers as charge slashes and these take less time to execute.
to add to OP's reply, The wide(horizontal) combo especially the whole combo alone give a x7 modifier.
The base values of surge combos are ridiculous too, spamming hysteria is one way to play, but it looks like you will get more bang for your buck in dps by just surge slashing, especially in multiplayer where getting counters is inconsistent at best.
Unless you are speedrunning a monster where there are scripts to follow the monsters pattern and grind the same fight 50 times for one good result, tcs spam will not be as rewarding as you think in a standard hunt.

Backslide replaces power sheath and surge slash combo replaces regular charge slash combos.
By all accounts you can use backslide mid charge, and you maintain your charge. Would be insane for TCS usage

They used mods to gain access to the moves that aren't normally available in the demo, but these are actual attacks that will be in the full game.

why not show how you maintain charge with the dodge?
there are two clips with it already, the first clip is where I used it I landed starting attack of the 3-hit surge slash combo and then followed up with second and third attacks after the dodge.

@@MrCharly780 works on regular charged slash combo too, not the charge of attack itself but the combo level.
