    Wow! Yet another informative and educational video by one of my favorites on CZcams! Where do I begin? Adapting your modifications to my Ascend 10T with only a 4" dia round hatch. I have the stand-assist strap, a lot like yours. Anchor reel - definitely something I'll consider. Track at base of seat. I can add one, and the cup holder idea right there is awesome. The tool caddy! Yesss! The answer to my dilemma of tethering all those things to the base of my seat! I may tether anyway but with the caddy, they won't be all rolling around, getting tangled up. Velcro strip holders on side of seat! Another great one. Lure holder - love it. Crate or no crate - I'm inclined to agree with you. A doormat - great use! And the lightning detector - I didn't know about that! In Florida, it's a must.
    I'm also wanting to find a better wheeled-transport system. It's getting more difficult to bend and stretch to get the scupper hole - based trolley underneath and in position. Thanks for all the tips! Now I'll get busy..... :-)

    I watch your videos all the time and I think they're great! I thought of another idea to store wet flies or lures instead of using a pool noodle as your Hack #15. I do a lot of fly and conventional bass fishing from my kayak and I found that sticking a strip or two of velcro (loop side) to my kayak someplace serves as my fly holder. As I finish using the fly/lure I just stick it into the velcro. A lot smaller than the pvc/pool noodle holder and I can put some anywhere on my kayak.
    Happy Fishing and Thanks Again!!!

    • @KayakhacksFishing
      @KayakhacksFishing  Před 4 lety

      Great idea! Does the velcro peel off? I had to stick velcro to PVC and then attach the PVC to the boat. I found sticking velcro directly to the HDPE of the boat did not work for long periods of time

      @darylchan651 Před 4 lety

    I went the whole hack route including tilt up trolling motor and battery. Next was a trailer because it was too heavy and cumbersome to slide into the back of my pickup.I used to load everything I thought I might possibly need.
    Now I'm reversing course back to a simpler paddle rig . I know what essentials I'll need now and and have realized that the simple pleasure of being able to slide quietly into the water and stealthily approach fish in even ultra skinny water is so rewarding.
    In the water in less than a minute and floating high.
    Florescent take apart paddle with screw ends allows me to screw each paddle into the bottom thru anchor rings on each side.. Voila... high visibility double power poles.
    Ah h h the simple life. So many more spur-of-the-momemt fishing capers.

      I had to put it that far back to get the height to keep the rudder from scraping when I load and unload it onto my truck. I am good with that spot for that reason. From a pure transport perspective, your suggested location would be better as more of the weight would be balanced. However, I would also be concerned about stress on the hull given the weight of the Coosa and worry a bit about cracks. But, hopefully, the thick additional mounting plate Jackson sells for heavy kayaks makes that concern go away.

    Thanks for the awesome vids! They help me out a bunch when setting up my kayak. One question I have though is what size self tapping screws do you use for PVC ? Im planning on making some outriggers and the rod pivot swivel, do you think the 3 rod pivot swivel would work on my track mount ? Or would it be too heavy for the track?

    • @KayakhacksFishing
      @KayakhacksFishing  Před 4 lety

      I used 3/4" based on the size of my rods. If you have heavy rods, go larger. As long as you have heavy duty track with good, solid mountings, it should be OK - but again, it depends on the size of the rods. Although I showed the pivot with 3 rods, I think only going with two would be better for keeping things organized. If you have a doubt about the installed track on your kayak, you could always get and mount a heavy duty track like this one - amzn.to/2VxC6Pb

    Do you have an opinion on the orientation of the rod holders? I am about to install one on my kayak but I was envisioning myself leaving the line behind while I paddle, and I feel if I get a bite and the rod holder points backwards, the rod might slip out of the rod holder, i’m thinking of installing it sideways so the rod points away from the sides of the kayak and maybe lessen the chance of the rod being pulled out by a big pike or walleye… thoughts?

    • @KayakhacksFishing
      @KayakhacksFishing  Před rokem

      I think you should point them towards the fish to make sure the rod bends towards the hit. On my kayak I have the ones I use to hold the rods I am casting and two pointing to the rear for when I troll.

    I was wondering why you put the wheels so far back. I didn't know they even had the short shafts for the legs. On your one video I was thinking my trailer with the 3" PVC is higher than most tailgates so I was wondering why you were worried about rudder dragging the ground when loading and unloading because I have 3-4 inches of clearance. Makes sense now. Are you having problems with tracking on your coosa as far as being hands free goes?

    • @KayakhacksFishing
      @KayakhacksFishing  Před 5 lety

      The short shafts are the standard legs that come with the skinny wheels. They do sell the long legs and they fit the skinnies. The short legs do keep the rudder off the ground. I had to get the long legs with the fat tires to keep the tires from rubbing on the side of the boat. On tracking, I do end up with my hands on the steering all the time. However, I have never been in totally calm water (no wind or current) to see how it actually tracks. Fishing in tidal marshes there is always a current and the wind is constant. Other folks have complained about tracking. I think I will go out and look at the orientation of my rudder with the controls centered and see if it is perfectly straight. It looks like you can adjust the angle a bit by using the hex bolts.

      Kayak Hacks Fishing I also live and fish in Swansboro. I made a video not trying to get you to watch I just feel you are better at diy than me. I made a skeg for my fd that comes from the rudder and I rarely have to touch the controls now. I live at the waters edge of bear creek and have tested it thoroughly and can even cut across current and still not have to touch the controls. I bet as handy as you are you can probably definitely come up with a neater/ better hack

      Kayak Hacks Fishing I bought another rudder just in case because they are relatively cheap. So far so good though it been fantastic tie on new lures and fish a shoreline not worrying about if I’m going to pull a u-turn. My wife’s FD came with the long legs skinny tires and so did mine and mine is a year old. She has the new generation landing gear and I have the old one. That’s weird although I did tell them what kayak I’m putting it on so idk why they went with the short legs on yours. Hers also came with thick hdpe to reinforce.

    That Velcro tool holder can be replaced with a magnet strip, then you don't miss with Velcro.

    • @KayakhacksFishing
      @KayakhacksFishing  Před 5 lety

      The problem with magnets is a lot of tools are not compatible and if the magnet is rigid, it will not attach easily to a curved surface. You could mount a magnetic bar to some PVC and use the PVC gear head to hold it if you wanted to go that way.
