      Or even better, one of those cast iron router table tops. I didn’t build in a good miter slot in this one... not one I could use a miter gauge on anyway

  • @andmoran34
    @andmoran34 Před 3 lety +1

    Thanks for this great build video. I’ve been looking for something like this for a while. I am curious why you didn’t route any cross-grain dovetail slots for the Matchfit hardware.

    • @EastOakWoodworking
      @EastOakWoodworking  Před 3 lety

      I considered it, but I didn’t think I’d ever use them. This moxon vise was purpose built for cutting dovetails on boxes and drawers, and in every use case I could think of, the piece would be longer than it is wide. In most cases longer than the table of the vise.

    This looks like a great build to me. I like the stability the tabletop work bench will give to the clampdown moxon vice. Do you find the routered parallel lines get used? Not sure about the clamps or tee thread bolts you used in routered dovetail slot, if you could elaborate?
    Nice to see a build where there are answers to comments. Well done. This is one to follow. Thanks.

    • @EastOakWoodworking
      @EastOakWoodworking  Před 3 lety

      The dovetail slots in the top work perfectly with Matchfit dovetail clamps, and I use them a lot, as well as the fence that uses the same dovetail slots. Is that what you mean by “the parallel lines”?

    • @jameshaveron4197
      @jameshaveron4197 Před 3 lety

      Yes, thanks. I found some similar dovetail clamps online, did not know of this variant. Yes, this is what I meant re parallel lines

  • @oxcart19
    @oxcart19 Před 3 lety

    I noticed you were tightening the vise by grabbing the wheel instead of the handle on the wheel. In retrospect, do you wish you had used a plain wheel, such as on your leg vise, or are you happy with the wheel you selected for the Moxon Vise? Do the handles sticking out from the wheel get in your way? Nice build, by the way ;)

    • @EastOakWoodworking
      @EastOakWoodworking  Před 3 lety

      I’ve found that the handle works great for quick in and out on the vise, but grabbing the wheel gives me a better feel for when it’s tight.

    Got your plans, and I noticed you recommend the Micro Jig MATCHFIT Relief bit. Is this instead of the using a dado blade to remove the waste material? Is it a better option? I presume you could use it for the dovetails to house the bases? Great video!

    • @EastOakWoodworking
      @EastOakWoodworking  Před 2 lety

    • @EastOakWoodworking
      @EastOakWoodworking  Před 3 lety

      I just added links for the goosenecks, the mounts for them and the 1/4 x 20 adapters. I’m not 100% happy with the goosenecks, I wish they were just a little stiffer, but they have been working good enough.

    F.Y.I McMaster-Carr are refusing to ship outside of the States stating it "is too expensive to meet US export regulations". What ever that means. Being ex New Zealand Customs and somewhat familiar with import/export regulations between the States & NZL I smell OSB burning. Would love someone to point me onto alternative suppliers for this kit.
