Hey @AntsCanada, I wanted to inform that when the larvae reach their final instar (in their silk production stage), you could offer the colony some leaves so you could observe and film them in action. A transfer to a test tube set up can also be done additionally, so that the colony can be in a tight, secured space and makes filming them easier...

I personally think it's more of an instinct based reaction than anything else. For such incredibly social animals, it seems benefitical, from an evolutionary standpoint, to to be inherently alturistic. I mean, if ants weren't willing to die for each other, their societies would fall apart. To me, it *seems* that they are "hard-wired," on a genetic level, to "care" bout each other, rather than emotionally caring about each other.
Now, I must say that I have not studied the specifics behind ant brains and the chemicals they produce, so I got no proof as to wether or not ant brains produce the chemicals that are nessecary for things like love and emotional bonding, but based on what I've seen, I personally think that their alturistic and protective behavior is a byproduct of them evolving an eusocial lifestyle.

I had slight trouble feeding my founding colony of weaver ants but I tried live milipedes they barely attacked much . And some got lose. But... Every now and then I see milipede skin in their graveyard . So I just released some more and sometumes give dead and of course honey or others and they are actually growing very well
