I Added a Baby Crocodile Into My Giant Rainforest Vivarium

- I added a baby crocodilian to my giant ecosystem rainforest vivarium, Pantdora. The purpose was to address the many random insects that fall into and drown in the rainforest's blackwater pond 'Aqua Noctis', and my hopes was that a baby caiman could eat them. The adventure of discovery that ensued was unpredictable, unforgettable, and utterly life-changing. Hope you enjoy this Episode 9 of Season 2 of my Ecosystem Vivarium Series. Ant love forever! This video was shot in 4K Ultra HD resolution. Special thanks to @dingodinkelman for the information and help regarding our new caiman!

A bit of a tip coming from a caiman owner myself, caiman take time to get used to new faces within their life. As long as you make yourself more present in their life, they slowly begin to understand that you are not a threat to them and will begin to recognize your face every time you head over to its enclosure.
Oh, this is good to know. I can already tell these animals are highly intelligent! Thank you! 🙏
Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
@@AntsCanada The primary cause of deforestation and species extinction is animal agriculture. 90% of all deforested land has been turned into farmland for cattle, sheep, and pigs, or to grow food to feed them. 80% of all crops grown are fed to livestock. The amount of food grown in one year for livestock if instead fed to humans would end world hunger 14 times over.
So if you actually want to help wildlife go vegan!

AC: “ I got a croc!”
Baby Croc: “I want to bite you so bad…but this is nice so I’ll wait 3-4 years”

Yep, in 3 or 4 years the crocodile will be 5 foot long. He had difficulty handling the Croc at 8 inches long, they grow in every direction, in less than 6 months it will be 18 inches long, much wider and teeth much sharper and jaws much stronger. He’ll have to hire someone to remove it.

I believe this specific type of croc, called a caiman, doesn’t grow much larger than it is at the moment, though I’m not fully sure.

People showed up at her store from all over the Florida and Georgia. It was just insane man. We ended being know as the "Croc Store". LOL This was before cell phones and social media but you would have never have known based on people's comments when they showed up at the pet store. As far as your caiman is concerned, you're a large predator who is waiting for it to come out into the open so that you can eat it.
That species grows up to six feet for males and weighs in at nearly 90 pounds so you are going to have to work at socializing it as otherwise, you're going to have a large predator which is not just capable, but possibly willing to add you to its meal plan.
What you need to do is get him out of there and into an aquarium which you keep somewhere that you hang out a lot AND ensure that the aquarium is high enough up that you aren't constantly looming over him.
I own a B+W Argentine tegu and when I first got him I made sure to keep his aquarium high enough up that he was eye level when I was sitting at my computer, that way he got used to me being on or even a little below his level - took about a month for him to finally feel comfortable enough to come over and watch me and two months before he didn't hide/run whenever I stood up.
You're also going to have to get over your fear of handling him because he needs to get used to being handled by you NOW while he's still young and impressionable - get some thick, heavy gloves from a hardware store and let him bite you a few times so he can see that it doesn't help him as once he figures out that biting you doesn't get him the desired results, he'll stop.
Hold him eye level and talk calmly to him - let him get used to the sight and sound of you.
You also need to hand feed him so that he creates positive associations with you because if he's always feeding himself, then you're nothing to him at best or a threat/competition at worse.
All crocodilians are difficult to tame and many can only be brought to "mostly safe" to deal with in that they'll tolerate you and usually not try to attack, but that's only if you take the time to socialize them and ensure that they at least understand that you're not their enemy.
But you have to do this now while it's young, otherwise, you're going to have a large predator which is more than capable of injuring you and others quite seriously and views you as something which it should injure on your hands...at least until it removes part or all of one of your hands.
This is the definition of having too much money & too much time on your hands & being able to do whatever you want this is amazing
is it
Haha this is exactly what I will do when I have money to spare
This is an actually cool thing to do with your money. Too many rich people spending money on dumb uninteresting stuff.
I wouldn't say that, because this is his work, it's an inversion not a simple whim
I love how he loved every comment but this one 🎉
Gonna be 100% honest, my initial reaction was “man idk that won’t be enough space for when the lil guy starts growing” and then you casually mentioned the 60ft pond in your yard. I can tell you’re going to take great care of this guy :) (crocodilians love toys and stuff to play with, so I suggest offering some thick rubber dog toys like a kong for him to knock around) ❤
Well he kept saying this was going to be temporary like only a hundred times lol. I figured he put a lot of thought in this and it’s nice he had an expert come out and scan the enclosure. Even when it’s only temporary.
yea i was anxious to hear what his plans were when it got big. but i knew AC would have a responsible plan. unlike alot of pet owners sadly

the music and lighting makes this SO COOL it’s like a dinosaur movie but more peaceful
the little caiman is soooo cute!! being scared to pick him up is understandable but very funny. reptiles tend to calm right down once theyre actually in your hands and realize youre not going to eat them. with snakes and geckos, its a good idea to interact with them often (especially during their younger stanges) so that theyre easier to handle during doctor visits and such. consult your friendly croc specialists about how often you should be holding him to make those future visits easier.
My first job was at a pet shop back in the early 90's and I had all sorts of fish tanks and reptile tanks at home in my bedroom. I got a caiman as a baby and handled him every day and it was very comfortable with me. After some time I got a little bored with him because I probably got a different animal or something but I didn't pick him up for about a week and that was enough time for him to become EXTREMELY aggressive. It was about 18 inches long at this point and although I continued to try to get him back to his old tame self. it was to no avail. I ended up giving him to a friend and it grew to about 3 feet but was never able to be handled without it trying to kill you. I foresee this caiman becoming just like mine was. A ruthless killer lol.

I recently binged the prior productions of this and I have to say... this is an amazing nature "Show" if I could even call it that. It's more like an... enthusiast inviting you into their neat room of neat things and sharing all their fun stories about their little friends. It doesn't feel like sitting down for a traditional show and I think that's a good thing.
It's relatable, enjoyable, engaging, and actively educational. I enjoy that you will come across things that you do not know, then inform us of what you learned. It makes you want to come back to figure out just what these new critters are and what they can do!
The work you have put into the Vivarium, channel, and the work you put into the videos themselves. The editing, music choices, scripting, line delivery, and cinematography are all on point for the stories you aim to tell. You deserve a wide audience for this! Very enjoyable! I was very happy to see this new one up and was eager for it to arrive! You have me hooked!
Hope that Caiman enjoys the swamp it will reign over in the future! If you're keeping with the dragon theming - which it sounds you are given the video - There's always the cult classic Draco of Dragonheart fame... if you don't mind imagining your caimen speaking like a mini Sean Connery! lol.
If you don't mind breaking the theme... Steve. You're certainly treating these critters in the spirit that late Irwin asked us all to treat them in, and he'd be a great homage.

Next time you need to pick the little guy up I suggest going for the shoulders/neck swiftly while restricting their arms gently, then use your second hand to support their butt. I would also recommend some handling and desensitisation to humans as the lil guy won’t stay little forever! Getting him used to people and hands will be beneficial in case of a vet emergency in the future! I hope this helps and I can’t wait to follow this lil guys journey!
This is sound advice! A caiman's always going to be a potential hazard to handlers, but the more familiar the routine of being removed from the water and examined becomes to it, the less stress it causes in the long run.
Great advice. I'm commenting hoping that Mikey will see this. Do you think it would be a problem for his guests especially children when he rehouses the caiman in that giant pond in the yard? Will it attack people if they get close?
@@Night-Shade. I don’t have much experience with caiman as I’m from Australia, but I’d image they are similar to crocs in regard of being territorial. They could definitely be a danger to people if they aren’t socialised, usually a few select people will be able to be in close contact with the animal. Because of the depth of the pond it’s less likely to jump out and attack but that’s something that could still definitely happen, I’d imagine he’d put up a fence so the lil guy can have a section of land and can’t get out of the pond
@@Fri3d_C0ff33 They don't seem like they are aggressive creatures. The ones at the animal reservation were very chill even when they got close to them.

I love that you have your own nature show in your vivarium 😅 amazing job!
"I added a human to my my giant rainforest vivarium" is probably his last vivarium video gonna be 😂
“I added a gorilla to my vivarium to see if it will evolve into a human and take over my vivarium”
When he moves into it in the end :D
Please NEVER EVER STOP MAKING VIDEOS LIKE THESE 🔥
I won't. Thank you for watching and being part of Pantdora's journey.
@AntsCanada Thank you!!!!!!!! If you keep making them then I'll keep watching them
You should name him dingo because hes introduced you to him being able to survive there😊
"carefully placed him into the water"... am i the only one that was expecting a panic'd yeet!
the Caimen is SO cute!! I vote for naming him "Godzilla - the king of Pantdora"
I was thinking the same, Godzilla~!
Croczilla!
I was thinking Godzilla, then I thought of Zilla
@@catforlife1876 Zillah!
Croczilla!!!
this cam quality is insane. well done truly!
i didn't watch this for 6 months and know he is adding a crocodile
I suggest the name Jaws as the first choice. The caiman demonstrated its ferocious predator instincts, showcasing its large jaws.
Please @AntsCanada It would be a pleasure if you would!
there should be a 24/7 livestream of pantdora so you and we dont miss any single thing and these videos should be like highlights of the month
amazing idea!
Wait this is actually a really good idea
Bump
Yes please
facts
Bros voiceover sounds like an anime protagonist 😂
You have me watching this shizz like a movie
My girlfriend’s first comment: “wait what happened to the ants?! They’re like the least important thing now!” Lol
I feel like we're watching the Jurassic Park Origin story real time.
The ants are definitely still there you can see them in almost every pan shot but the episodes themselves are more focused on adding to the vivarium, still incredibly entertaining tho :D
A Soldier's Tunneling Hymn
The dry times came upon us,
We were forced to wait and hide;
In our tunnels we gained our strength,
But Pantdora changed the tide.
A new era is upon us,
A new epoch just came in;
As we were about to emerge,
Behold! The dreaded Caiman!
Pantdora! Unite!
We shall win this day!
And in the end, you all shall bow,
Before us, Formicidae!
Wasn’t this show about a community college?
Oh how I miss the ant wars days 🥲🙃
why is this series so stressful one minute and making me cry the next and then has my heart bursting at how cute the baby is? I love it.
The close up shot of its pupil widening was the coolest shot ever. Also adding a caiman to pantdora was awesome.
Name him tick-tock, the croc from Peter pan
I think you should name the baby Irwin! In honor of Steve, and the education that this little baby is gonna help provide to all the AC family watchers and people of the world!
Same thoughts!!! And it's just a good name!!!
W name
Came here to say just this .💚
Was thinking the same thing!!
But he needs somthing to heat up his body!
And if not Irwin or Steve, then maybe Donk. The big friend of Dundee in the Crocodile Dundee movies.
Steve or Irwin.. for the og crock lover! Steve taught us to love all animals.. even the dangerous ones. It should be an honor and privilege to add an Irwin to your giant rainforest vivarium!
yes 100%!!! irwin in respect for our hero, gone too early ❤
I just commented Irwin, this needs more upvotes
Some folks are too basic...
@@khancrow7015 steve irwin is an absolute hero and icon in my country mate, it’s a super fitting name for the baby croc!
@parisrowe4569 It's not a croc. That is the WHOLE point lol
*Some episode before this one*: "don't worry my dragonscale lizard, you will be the biggest apex predator so no one can kill you"
**Adds a much bigger apex predator lizard that will most definitely have beef with him**
6:49 "It threatened me!" but... look at that babys silly little face...
been watching since 2016 and never would have imagined, after all the surprises that a crocodile will live amongst ANTS
This has to be the highest effort show on CZcams! Thanks!
🙏🙏🙏
Yes! It is the best show on the internet and I wish the whole world could watch this wonderful endeavor.
That’s a nice swamp puppy you got there!
Dude that was cinematic experience.
Thanks for watching!
