  • My new baby crocodilian (spectacled caiman) has officially learned how to crawl onto the land and hunt for the various creatures within my giant cloud rainforest vivarium, Pantdora. The rainforest ecosystem is forever changed, and I didn't expect the little croc to ever be so land born, but it turns out, it is an avid hunter in both water and land. This is a story of how I discovered what my baby croc has been up to at night during his terrestrial sprees, what creatures he's been eating, and the secrets he's been hiding. Hope you enjoy Season 2, Episode 10 of my Ecosystem Vivarium Series. Ant love forever! This video was shot in 4K Ultra HD resolution.

I'm not a croc expert, but I have heard that some crocs and gators will swallow small pebbles to help digest their food. I think that's what the caiman is trying to do at 16:06.

What if he Would Have preferred to be eaten by his Empress so he could help nourish their future brood? Like, I understand being vigilant before and during, to make sure he didn't get eaten BEFORE he fertilized her eggs. But. After he was done? Eat him, mama! XD or maybe if he did enjoy his retirement until he peacefully died, his body could have been offered directly to Wifey? No?

After they feed they are most vulnerable as they are having to digest their food. But I am sure you probably know way more than I am saying. I would personally name him Irwin in honor and tribute of Steve, the Crocodile Hunter, arguably the greatest conservationist we, as wildlife enthusiasts, ever had the privilege of watching. He’s a hero of mine and a man who inspired so many others to take on the responsibility we have as a species to protect the beautiful world we live in. Nowadays, his family and children continue to uphold his legacy, never resting in spreading his message of conservation and awareness for the often misunderstood creatures that inhabit this planet along with us. The foremost of which being crocodilians. We don’t deserve the Irwins.

Normally they’d be on a high leaf where they’d be safe from ground predators and the queens could easily defend from a single angle; from the leaf’s stem. You should’ve found a way to keep them covered and safe from outside predators, or waited until the colony was more mature first. @AntsCanada I think you should’ve found a way to properly keep the weaver ants safe before you put them and their eggs in the terrarium. Normally they’d be on a high leaf where they’d be safe from ground predators and the queens could easily defend from a single angle; from the leaf’s stem. You should’ve found a way to keep them covered and safe from outside predators, or waited until the colony was more mature first. Pandora was full of dangers to them; especially the sun skins, you unfortunately left them as easy targets for predators

It's so funny I've been living in central FL since 2008 and I spend a lot of time outside, and I have yet to see a mantis.
I'm from East Central Illinois and there were giant brown mantis everywhere up there, especially in the late spring and early summer youd see them right out in the open hanging out on tree trunks. And they were very people friendly and didn't mind being picked up and gently handled for a few minutes.
I just find it amazing because where I'm from in Illinois there are 3 months exactly of actual summer weather and by early September you will quickly have frost on the ground in the morning time. And it gets cold quickly.
Mantis were all over the place.
I have not seen one yet since I've been in Florida. I'm sure they're here, maybe its just because I live in a busy city. There used to be armadillo here too and you dont see those anymore either anywhere, and I've talked to people who remember flamingos being here in the 1970s and those definitely are nowhere to be seen here anymore. I've seen one in the time I've been here and it was flying overhead when I saw it. There's just too many people here and there are more and more people by the day and fewer and fewer species of unique native wild life to be seen around here anymore.
It will be awesome to see your ecosystem with mantises, that will certainly add to the action going on around there.

He isn’t loyal to the creatures of Pandora….whom we (and especially you) have come to care for and who were there first. He is most definitely going to injure and/or eat Daenerys and Smaugette….sooner than you expect….mark my words….unless you take greater precautions.
