      Really? It's not even been four months since I've started. I know folks that have taken years to get their cars back together. That said, I don't really have the patience for long builds these days. I don't have many big chunks of time to spend and having to start/stop working over and over is tricky. I'm excited to drive it again!

    Tom, I enjoy you how to videos and attention to detail. there are very rarely any good performance based auto shows let a lone youtube channels out there. As someone who works in the world of multimedia i understand the additional added time it takes to film all of this and edit your show. But, thanks for the dedication as it really does bring enjoyment to thousands. Also, I was a domestic guy but in the last year traded my mustang for an Evo X. I love my mitsubishi it's a solid car and hope to keep my mods and performance tastes to par with how professional you make yours.

    Awesome video as always but you forgot to let people know a little bit about theory when it comes to placement of injector nozzle. You want it far away from your throttle body as possible but after your intercooler. This will allow you to run the biggest nozzle possible to get the biggest gain possible. I realize you wanted to have the sleeper look and you placed it there for that reason. I would highly recommend to place it on the outlet of the intercooler.

    Thanks for sharing your methanol installation. Its a great way to get more power but I think I would have added a caution for your viewers. It does make tuning a challenge, especially if you are running with or without methanol. And running out while under WOT is definitely bad news.
    I am from Texas so E85 is the way to go for us. 21 stations with supply make E85 a no brainer. As long as you watch your torque curves while tuning on the dyno.

    • @TomsTurboGarage
      @TomsTurboGarage  Před 10 lety

      Thanks man! Well said and while I've never really found it to add complexity to my tune (it just gave me more "headroom" before knock sets in) it is a problem if it runs out though. I would run E85 tomorrow if it was available around me.

    Awesome video brother! *I especially found it interesting that water/methanol actually CLEANS your chamber, I guess I figured like most performance enhancers, this might do some slight wear with the water being mixed in.*
    My grandfather taught me a trick a while back and we installed an *ISOPROPYL alcohol* injection in my Ford Bronco :P. This was before I even knew about Methanol, but from what I've found, isopropyl can mix with oil, gasoline, is more flammable, cools the air just as well, and also evaporates quicker (although it's a little more pricey, same stuff you can get at a CVS).

    Tom you should upgrade the setup to engage via ecmlink, it's far better than by a pressure switch, it will switch over to aux fuel maps automatically and you'll have much better AFR's.

      @TomsTurboGarage  Před 10 lety

      Hi Jason, thank you for the idea, I may go that route eventually. I've never really had a problem with boost activated setup in my 4G63 cars though. I always lean toward simple due to lack of time to fiddle.

      Tom's Turbo Garage
      I hear you on the lack of time, it's taken me 2 months to get my speed density dialed in lol. I was on a simple boost activated switch as well before but once I tried it I was sold, actually ends up being much quicker to tune as the ECU knows exactly when to compensate for the additional fuel .

    i liked the system, until i saw the spray slapping up against the opposite side of the inlet. i think it would work a lot better if you could get it spraying directly into the inlet. like, make the spray curve into the inlet instead. this would require an additional L-fitting on the inside of the inlet ( pointed in the direction of the intake ) but it think it would give a much better performance boost. because that mist is supposed to be sprayed down the length of the inlet, not up against the wall on the opposite side that you drilled. but other than that, it seems like a pretty good setup to me. i realize that
    there's enough pressure in there to bend the spray pattern, but a bent spray pattern, isn't even close to a normal spray. you need to find a way to make it spray into your motor in the same direction as the airflow, instead of like that. because when you install it like that, the cars natural airflow is bending the spray, before combustion area.

    • @QuintenPool
      @QuintenPool Před 8 lety

      +Jeff Fuehr The way I see it, it does not matter as long as the boosterfluid gets inside the cilinders. It's about increasing engine pressure right?

    • @typedrew
      @typedrew Před 7 lety +1

      Jeff Fuehr it'll be a small bit different when there is 10lbs+ of boost forcing it sideways into the engine.
      You've chosen the wrong thing to be concerned with.
      Also. Larger water droplets will add more octane and steam to the cylinders and that's always a good thing. Plenty of room for atomization down stream from the nozzle.

    Do you know if/how it would be possible to run methanol with a quad injector setup where the injectors are electronic vs just a nozzle?

    Do you still put the nozzle after the turbo on a vw 1.8 Turbocharged engine? the intercooler hose is connected going straight to the intake and hope that putting this on wouldn't ruin the intercooler.

    Another spectacular video, Tom! And I really like the electronic angle on the music for this one (the piece starting at around 6:40 was great, and the closing number was pretty awesome, too). Can't wait to see the looks on people's faces at the drag strip with this build.
    I'm curious about one thing, was that a drain hole/tube that you ended up using to route the meth/vac lines into the trunk? If so, did you re-route the drain?

    • @TomsTurboGarage
      @TomsTurboGarage  Před 10 lety

      Thank you as always for the very kind support! I can't wait to drive it either, I look forward to some drag runs someday too! That was just a general "overflow" type drain for the trunk and wasn't attached to anything from above. You'd have to fill up the inner fender with 6 inches or more of water for that drain to kick in. Thankfully it's all dry as a bone back there and I keep the car stored inside too.

    What is the thread tape you're using? Is it teflon tape? I remember my snow performance methanol system said to only use E6000 silicone sealent for threads, not teflon tape as it isn't methanol resistant.

    Hi Tom,
    What kind of pump gas do you get down there to start with? If the Octane number on the fuel is high enough, you could do without the added complexity and parts of this water/methanol injection system.
    I can get 102 octane fuel right from the pump station here and I doubt whether a system like this would still be justified using that kind of fuel, even on a boosted motor...
    As for intake temps...A well sorted intercooler would already take care of that I guess. Cooler is always better of course, but if you could do without this sort of system, I guess I would always prefer it.
    Or am I thinking this the wrong way round?

    here is an idea, Tom, try doing this but in the turbo intake to make the air entering denser and therefore have better turbo efficiency, please respond if my idea is flawed.

    • @KBzPTGT
      @KBzPTGT Před 8 lety

      +Will Campbell dont you want your cooler/denser air going into the combustion chambers via intercooled charged air/tb/intake mani? If you inject it via turbo intake the mixture will be disapated/burned up before getting into the combustion chambers where it is a benefit

    • @willcampbell2909
      @willcampbell2909 Před 8 lety

      +KB in MD Last Water is normally injected either at the compressor inlet or in the diffuser just before the combustion chambers. Adding water increases the mass being accelerated out of the engine, increasing thrust, but it also serves to cool the turbines. Since temperature is normally the limiting factor in turbine engine performance at low altitudes, the cooling effect allows the engine to be run at higher RPM with more fuel injected and more thrust created without overheating.

      are you talking about planes/jets or cars/trucks? Or is the same for both? My reply above was meant to be a question if it didnt sound like it

    • @willcampbell2909

      it is also very similar for both, compression is aided with cooler air.

    Would it work on an N/A setup instead of FI? Say for track or strip racing set to specified rpm range. So you would be performing at optimal levels for the race, and under normal driving conditions it wouldn't kick in.

    • @TomsTurboGarage
      @TomsTurboGarage  Před 10 lety

      It can, but only if your NA setup is limited by pump gas. I once saw a very high compression, built V8 running an alcohol injection setup to avoid having to run 116 octane race gas all the time on the street.

      Old comment, but if anyone is wondering, think about the way your car runs on a cold day/rainy day (or first thing in the morning on cold start), compared to warm. Water/methanol injection makes it run like that all the time.
