    In typical Death Toll Racing fashion, a simple budget bumper ends up turning into a work of art that's functional, and hits all my criteria for this build. I started out with a simple list...
    *Heavy duty enough for this little rig, but not too heavy in weight.
    *I wanted the bumper to be as tight in to the rig as possible, as to not sacrifice any of the tiny-ness that makes these Geo Tracker / Suzuki Sidekicks so capable on tight trails.
    *A winch big enough for this rig, but not big enough to tear it in half
    * Use only simple materials, simple steps, having no plan, and have the final results look like a million bucks.
    I was able to pull it off on this one. Next up for this little off roader is the rear bumper that should air next week (once I clean up the biggest mess I've made in a while)

    Ok. You basically just nailed the exact configuration of bumpers i have been dreaming of for my Vitara !!! Simple, minimalistic and yet everything is there. Thank you very much for this videos! Now i can go to a friend of mine who's good with this stuff and just show him your video. No words needed.

      I don't why because that means more weight on the frame suspension even more force on motor gears and a lots more gas pump it might look nice but after a bit the tracker will be tired real simple but ay everyone is different I my self look the out come of things that all gd job by the way

      the reason i say this is because I'm used to the 3800 platforms i cant tell you all the weak points and how to make as much power as the factory block and handle and hold I'm just wondering if these trackers have like stupid little dumb shit from GM like the 3800 has plastic cooling elbows that over time get brittle and brake and crack so we upgrade them to the metal ones with the Ac delco o ring because Dorman dont fit stupid shit like that dose these trackers or side kids have anything like that were I have to look out for things also witch motor is better the 4 popper or the v6 and how are transmission in these little side by sides are they built from glass

    Good thing you added those washers @ 4:01. No guy likes shrinkage, especially when things get hot! Great work on the bumper! I like that you used the rectangular tubing. So often I see shows where they use the round tubing. Nice to see a change and uniqueness.

    • @DeathTollRacing
      @DeathTollRacing  Před 2 lety

      Thanks! Yes always plan for shrinkage! I turned out about perfect width. Still is a bit tight on the frame, but not too tight. I love using HSS for bumpers. They end up looking a bit more refined than round tubing, but usually are a bit more work in the end, even though it seems like it would be easier.

    Nice looking bumper, I'll definitely use some of those ideas when I build mine. Right now I'm putting my front axle together. Steel housing and 3rd, ARB air locker, 5.12 gears and probably the Toyota cv shaft swap

    • @DeathTollRacing
      @DeathTollRacing  Před 2 lety

      Nice! I will be doing that eventually. I'm going to let this one eat for a while though, and I'll keep my eye out for a steel Vitara housing, and do that swap then. I am going to put a locker in the front though as is, and see how much it can handle before the pin shears on it.

      @@DeathTollRacing what I am lead to believe is its the mounting bracket attachment point on the driver's side of the case that cracks. That and the third member snout mount. You're such a good fabricator you should add some reinforcement to those areas. I've heard of people doing that with them after they break, wrapping flat steel around it, making sort of a hoop that goes around the case and bolts on, tightens with the bracket. Do a little research to figure out exactly where the problem is and I'll but you can figure out a work around

    Interesting choice in a winch. My buddy spent a lot of time mudding and then rock crawling. He seems to think I need at least an 8000lb. I told him I didn't want weight differen the front end it tear it off. I am learning towards 6k max, maybe 5.

    • @DeathTollRacing
      @DeathTollRacing  Před 2 lety +1

      5 or 6k would probably be good. I went small to keep this thing all "utv" like. I will test it and see. Usually, the more weight rating, the slower they pull. this one seems really fast, but it may be under powered. I will be testing it soon, so we will see. Plus they are CHEAP!

    How did that winch work? I bought a 12,000 lbs winch but I think it's to big and I can use it on my 4 Runner instead as a back up to my 12,000 Warn. I was thinking of the 5000 lbs winch bit see yours is 3500 lbs. These only weigh 2200lbs lol. I was always told get double your vehicle weight when buying a winch. I have a 95 Geo Tracker 2 door 5 speed 1.6 liter 16 valve fuel injected with the 5.13 gears all factory except bigger Tires. It's a fun rig. Try running only 20 psi in the tires to take out the jaring of the guts lol. I like that bumper a lot.

    • @DeathTollRacing
      @DeathTollRacing  Před rokem

      Thanks! The winch is okay, but I think you would be more happy with the 5000 lbs winch. It can pull it vertical with a single line, but it feels like there's not much more and it's working really hard to do so. If you're going to do rock crawling or anything, I think the 5k is going to make you feel a bit more confident in it's abilities. I would pick your winch out via it's line pull speed @ 2,000 lbs. There are a few good charts to find the best one. Just Google search "winch line pull speed chart" and you should find a few.

    • @DeathTollRacing
      @DeathTollRacing  Před 2 lety

      The only thing really other than typical running / driving stuff is rust. A lot of these get really rusty around the body mounts / structure of the body where it meets the frame.
      I don't do much with social media, so I'm not sure about that. I think "Trash Panda Offroad" would be a good resource, or starting point. He has a CZcams channel and an Instagram. Probably FB too, but I'm not sure.

    The real problem with building a heavy duty bumper for a tracker is if you bump anything with it you'll muck up your frame, no?

    • @DeathTollRacing
      @DeathTollRacing  Před 2 lety

      The frame is the weak point after the new bumper yes. The frames strength to vehicle weight however is very good. But strength compared to a full size truck, not so much.
