E8- Tracker / Sidekick T-Case 4.24 Low Gears and Twin Stick Install with Easy SHORTCUTS!!! Low Range

  • Today we install Low Range Off-Road trail creeper gears and their Twin stick setup in our Budget Geo Tracker / Suzuki Sidekick build. I find some very handy shortcuts that eliminate the need for a press or any special tooling. Install is much easier than it looks and only takes some patience and time. This is the most expensive upgrade we've done to our budget project, but is worth it's weight in gold. What a major difference this is going to make crawling up rocks, or even in the loose sand climbs at our local testing grounds.

    I used the gear to cut the case. I put it on the shaft and turned it until it clearanced it. It only removed what was absolutely necessary, it looked machined, and i don't think that aluminum could do anything to that hardened gear.

    • @DeathTollRacing

    I have got hold of a spare trans/tcase. Should I do this mod to the one that’s out of the car, or would that end up being more work than doing the mod to the other tcase while it’s still on the car?

    • @jhsevs
      @jhsevs Před rokem +1

      What I’m asking is, is it possible to swap the transfer only, or do you have to swap the whole trans/tcase at once?

    • @DeathTollRacing
      @DeathTollRacing  Před rokem +1

      You can swap just the transfer case, but I think in the end it may be easier to get the trans and transfer case all set up and swap the whole assembly out together.

  • @sweet65mustang

    I did thus in one of my trackers last sorting and now I'm going out to put a 3:1 in offroad only rig. It's getting 3:1's because it has a stock sami case behind it. 3:1 + 2.2:1 equals 6.6:1, correct?
    And I'm hoping the top bolt is already out and i don't have to take out the transmission

    • @DeathTollRacing
      @DeathTollRacing  Před rokem

      You stacked t cases in a tracker?

    • @sweet65mustang
      @sweet65mustang Před rokem

      @@DeathTollRacingI didn't do it. I bought it this way. The guy that owned it is friends with Mike Hagen, of the Hagen widening mod fame, they did so much work to this thing. 2001 4 door frame, engine, transfer case. Steel front and XL7 rear axels. They cut the frame where it curves to go up over the axels and pushed the suspension up so the center of the body is on the frame but the frame where the suspension mounts on each end has 6" body lift blocks. Caged and the fuel tank replace with a fuel cell behind the back seat. They even started with 2 different geo 2 door bodies, one with front damage and the other with rear damage and welded the 2 good ends together. Lol.
      there's a kit for the stacked cases. You have to cut off the front output, weld up the hole and do a little work with the shift rod. Then there's a thick aluminum plate that bolts to the back. Then a steel pipe with a flange on each end bolts to that plate. A coupler to connect the shafts goes in that then bolt on the Sami case. Easy!

    Good info, thanks. How can you tell if you already have a low range kit installed? I recently bought a Tracker and was told it had the low range kit, but I am not sure how to tell or verify. It is an automatic trans as well, so it just creeps along but not sure if it is any lower geared (in low range) than stock or not...?
